Rptd: Transmission Issue of Char Leclerc S1

In last&current devserver,Char Leclerc S1 has some problem on both gear numbers& ratios ,it affects the performance of the tank in mobility.According to a Chinese paper were discussing about design of transmissions, the ESM500,which is the transmission of Char Leclerc S1,should has 5 forward gears&2 gears for backward rather than 8 forward&4 backward in the devserver. The gear ratios of each gears are as follows:

376525941_QQ20190525150806.png.9853e7c76

Translate to English:

gear numbers         transmission gear ratios       overall gear ratios

I                                      7.59                                9.03

II                                     4.49                                5.36

III                                    2.85                                3.40

IV                                    1.58                               1.88

V                                     1                                    1.19

-I(- means reverse gear)-5.38                              -6.42

-II                                   -1.89                              -2.26( in the table the overall gear ratio is 2.6 ,it‘s a typo)

Another PDF which is from the manufacturer of the transmission says that it also has torque converter with stall torque ratio of 2.3.In this situation we should use the technique that each gear ratios from about should have 2.3 multiplier to create 5 extra foward gears& 2 extra reverse gears to simulate the condition when converter was opening. Therefore, the total numbers of gears in the game should be 10 forward gears & 4 reverse gears .

Then we can calculate the top speed of each gear through the gear ratio by using following equation:

maximum speed of forward*(the gear ratio /gear ratio of top gear)

Here's the result I've figured out.

I 20.769(9.03*2.3)  4.06km/h

II 12.328(5.36*2.3)  6.85km/h

III 9.03 9.36km/h

IV 7.82(3.40*2.3) 10.80km/h

V 5.36 15.78/km/h

VI 4.324(1.88*2.3) 19.56km/h

VII 3.40 24.85km/h

VIII 2.737(1.19*2.3) 30.86km/h

IX 1.88 44.94km/h

X 1.19 71.0km/h

-I -14.766(-6.42*2.3) -5.72km/h

-II -6.42 -13.16km/h

-III -5.198(-2.26*2.3)-16.25km/h

-IV -2.26 -37.38km/h

when we using it‘s maximum forward speed & the gear ratio to calculate the top speed of backward ,we can figure it out that the reverse top speed should around -38km/h,not the -18.6/km/h in the devserver. other gears also have different top speeds compare to the devserver besides the top gear of forward.

Solution:Fix the transmission by using above data&technique.it is the proper way to improve the mobility of Leclerc, and the performance will more realistic.

Hi,

Where is the evidence that the Leclerc has this transmission fitted?  The Dev Server Leclerc does not identify a particular transmission.  Please also pay attention to the referencing standards.

Historical Issues Referencing Information

The required number of References depends on the type of sources presented:
OEM Manuals    -  User Manuals / Repair Manuals / Factory Manuals etc (Flight/Pilot/Maintenance Manuals, Engineering Drawings etc) - Historically acknowledged reference sources - single source is required. (Preferred)
Authored works   -  Reference Books on collections of vehicles/aircraft/ships ('coffee table books') Biographies, Specialist Books, "Expert" opinion publications, websites, industry magazines etc - at least two unrelated sources required.*

*Please be reminded that Wikipedia or other private Websites are generally not considered as reliable sources.

  • Please ensure the references haveReport/Document Type, Report/Document Name, Author, Date, ISBN/ISSN, relevant Pg No's etc - so our Historical consultant can review and check the accuracy of those documents against the substantial Gaijin Historical Database and Reference Sources.
  • Please provide scans of all pages referenced and a scan of the front cover of publication/book.
  • For Web sources. Please provide the link to the actual relevant section or document.  If this is not possible and only higher links can be referenced then please provide page or title information to locate the relevant reference.
  • Photographs need to be fully referenced.

The automatic gearbox ESM500, installed in the French main battle tank Leclerc can be coupled to a maximum 1600hp engine.

similar description also in the PDF from the transmission manufacturer I had shown before.

Thanks for that.

This site that you cite actually states that there were a possible two types of transmission that can be fitted.

http://www.chars-francais.net/2015/index.php/10-archives/de-1990-nos-jours/7-char-leclerc-1991

Quote

Vitesse maximale : Sur route : 72 km/h - Tout-terrain : > 55 km/h - En marche arrière : 38 km/h

Powertrain: Diesel Hyperbar Wärtsilä SACM V8X or Turbo diesel MTU 883 V12

Transmission: SESM ESM 500 automatic transmission with 5 front and 2 reverse gears, or RENK HSWL 295 TM automatic transmission with 5 front and 3 rear gears
Maximum speed: On the road: 72 km / h - Off-road:> 55 km / h - In reverse: 38 km / h

I will discuss this with the Gaijin Historian and the Developer.  I also suspect that this is part of a known issue with transmissions.

Thanks

Hello

Hswl 295 tm+Mb 883 ka500 is only for Leclerc U.A.E,which is an export version of Leclerc.

https://www.renk-ag.com/fileadmin/Produkte_und_Service/Produkte/Dokumente/RENK_transmissions_for_military_tracked_vehicles_en.pdf

Its first production application is in the Giat Industries' Leclerc MBTs and armoured recovery vehicles ordered by the United Arab Emirates in early 1993. In this application it is coupled to an MTU 883 12-cylinder diesel engine developing 1,100 kW (1,340 hp).
