What is EasyAntiCheat?

Spoiler

Easy Anti-Cheat, developed by Kamu, is an anti-cheating tool designed to stop (and catch) cheaters in online multiplayer games. Think of it like a more modern replacement for PunkBuster, the anti-cheating application that debuted in 2001. Easy Anti-Cheat runs on both Windows and macOS, and various linux machines.

Kamu won’t explain exactly how EasyAntiCheat works—after all, it doesn’t want cheaters to know exactly what they’re up against. The marketing materials says it uses a “hybrid approach powered by driver code and machine learning.” A support document shows it looks for corrupted memory, unknown game files, untrusted system files, and debuggers, among other things. It also won’t run if operating system security features like driver signature verification and kernel patch protection are disabled, ex: If safe mode is enabled.

When is EasyAntiCheat Active?

Spoiler

The EasyAntiCheat.exe process only runs alongside games that require it. if you’re not playing a game, EasyAntiCheat.exe isn’t running in the background.

When you launch a game that uses it— such as War Thunder, for example—EasyAntiCheat.exe starts up. It remains running while you’re playing the game, and shuts down when you close the game.

How does EAC Affect system performance?

Spoiler

EasyAntiCheat will have various performance impacts depending on your hardware and equipment. Nothing too important that will affect gameplay.

Although EAC will act as a live scanner, the program will scan the game files asynchronous to prevent bog downs. Depending on your thread count this can be instant to a fourth a second. Nothing noticeable.

Where does EAC Install?

Spoiler

EAC will install into by default C:\program files\EasyAntiCheat on a windows machine and inside the game's directory for linux and MacOs (unless changed by the distributor content provider).

The file size will take up no more than 50MB at best.

Q. Can we change the install location of EAC?
A. No, by default it will be hard installed to that file location and implanted into the windows registry.

Q. Can we manually move the files to a New drive?
A. In theory yes, you may move the EAC files to a new drive, such as moving it from your HDD to SSD, but this will require a registry edit, symbolic linking. There's plenty of online resources from hundreds of players around the world explaining this.

Common Known issues with EAC

Spoiler

Supported Operating Systems

Spoiler

The following software operating systems are officially supported by Easy Anti-Cheat.

Debian GNU/Linux 7+
Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard
SteamOS 2.87+
Ubuntu Linux 12.04+
Windows XP 32/64 Service Pack 3
Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Windows 7
Windows 8
Windows 8.1
Windows 10

Preparations?

Spoiler

Verify connectivity to Easy Anti-Cheat, make sure your internet access can access DHT p2p Services

Sound Mods, Custom Maps, Skins.

Spoiler

We will still support sound mods and skins, and other user created content that is inline with our rules and, terms, and Eula.

Installing additional softwares that will modify gameplay from not the intended purpose will ultimately will get your account in a bad state

EAC is designed to look for tampering of the game's code.

The game will be more protected from cheaters and keeping Warthunder more fair in the battle grounds, sky and seas.

So, no, you will not get 100% in trouble (by us) for making your T-44-122 golden, or your T34s pure snow white while exploring the outer regions of Italy with your gun sound like a massive cannon. Just make sure to keep your game files fair and within our rules.

Just read the linked article and it's contents for more info.

If this anti cheat works like some older ones ...i'm so banned ..for emulators and other old software that they recognise as "suspicious"

"

Hardware Verification Failed

  • One cause of system or game file integrity errors can be system hardware instability. Your PC may seem to run completely normally but occasionally generate incorrect calculation results. Easy Anti-Cheat's integrity checks are sensitive to hardware failures, especially when related to the hard disk or memory. Please make sure you have good hardware, if you have unstable hardware, it may be a sign to upgrade."

So if my PC is working perfectly now ...and starts with BSOD's/ram leaks after installing this EAC  ...it is still my fault ...

One question

Can i disable it manually or choose with which games it runs ..i'm forced to download it for WT but do not want it running for any other games

Your PC will not have ram leaks from EAC, the BSOD only occurs if your ram is almost full and if your Paging file (enabled by default to be twice your ram size minus 1gb) is almost filled and EAC can not put a file into ram or paging file. (Which is very very super rare)

EAC will only run with EAC Enabled games, so lets say you play warthunder, EAC will run, but if you play some other game, if EAC is not partnered with that game, it will never even decide to touch it.

The most common issue with EAC is the super rare bluescreen.

  • This blue screen will occur when your system is low on ram and you have page file enabled on windows.

Either this makes me very scared or very happy about the rest of the issues.

How exactly do you define "super rare" and "most common" in this sentence?

Most common defined as these issues are well known/ known issues

Super rare, is actually super rare, unless you see your self running out of ram and pagefile usually doubled of your ram minus 1 gb
So like a system with 8GB of ram will have 15GB of pagefile,
16gb of ram will have 32GB of page file

4GB ram is a special case, it'll default to 30GB of page file.

Rest assured, if you fill a room up with 1 million people, only maybe 50 of those people will suffer the issue. so super low and rare

What about it detecting some PC RGB software as suspicious?

It depends on whether the RGB software dabbles with the game client. If it doesn't, it won't give you any troubles.

Also I have issues with my game regularly freezing, will this give me performance drops due to EAC?

It depends on how often EAC scans threads and does the other stuff. Technically it might, but the chances are slim. It's all about the implementation.

Proton is supported?

Many Linux players use proton to play WarThunder due to performance

As of my personal knowledge as of right now, EAC is untested with proton.

If you find that Proton is not working with EAC and Warthunder, please let us know!

Any feedback is valuable. As of right now, i can neither confirm or deny.

Linux is not the problem

The problem is the garbage version we got

Linux version still using opengl 3.3 in 2019

Linux should use Vulkan API and we will get a really good FPS boost

The rest of games that i have on steam work perfectly, the problem is War Thunder build on Linux

I expect a lot of cheaters to be crying 'FALSE POSITIVE!', but the actual false positive rate will be very low.

Lots of /popcorn schadenfreude moments ahead!

I don't really have faith in third party systems. We'll see how it goes. I have never heard of any developer "Kamu" nor heard of any EAC. And I have been PC gaming for a long time. I don't have faith Gaijin was looking to do anything but the easiest path and I'm worried it will screw some things up, if not false positives then in general stability. I play War Thunder on an "older" system (but still well beyond WT's minimum) both in hardware and software, and I am rather concerned EAC won't play nice, or perhaps reject some of my older software thinking it's malicious.

EAC is used in other Gaijin Games, such as Crossout

General Question:

Is this allowed?

- Set custom backgroundscale

- set graphic to custom

- set config.blk to read only

This is safe, but not endorsed by us. The settings restricted in the launcher are safer settings set by the snail devs, anything higher can lead to the game being unstable. Use at your own risk.

That doesn't alleviate any concern, that it's used elsewhere.

How LONG has Crossout used it? Because I played Crossout beta test years ago (on a different Gaijin account).
