Hi there,today I'd like to start a discussion about the newest Chinese light tank-ztq-15(ztq-15 means 装甲车辆-坦克-轻型-15 ，English translation： light tank-15)

 ZTQ-15 is a lightweight battle tank designed and manufactured by the Chinese defense company NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation). The ZTQ-15 was unveiled to the public during the Zhuhai AirShow China in November 2016. According to NORINCO engineers, the ZTQ-15 was developed for the export market.

The5 has a weight from 33 to 36 tons depending on the armor fitted to the tank. With this weight, the tank offers more mobility than a standard main battle tank offering the same level of firepower. The power-to-weight ratio is between 27 and 30 hp/ton depending on the armor package. This tank can be used in mountain areas and operate in terrains that are inaccessible to standard main battle tanks which a weight of around 50 tons like the ZTZ99. The ZTQ-15 features good battlefield awareness, strong information capabilities and high maneuverability. It is suitable for modern joint operations, according to NORINCO. On December 27, 2018, the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense Wu Qian announced that the new ZTQ-15 lightweight tank was commissioned by China's army.

Armament

The main armament of the VT5 / Type 15 or ZTQ-15 consists of one 105 mm rifled gun with thermal sleeve and fume extractor which has a maximum firing range of 3,000m. The main armament also includes an automatic loading system. The empty cartridge cases are ejected via a small hatch located at the rear of the turret. The VT5 carried a total of 38 rounds of 105mm ammunition which can include Armour-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS), High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT), High Explosive (HE), and gun-launched anti-tank guided missile. The missile has a maximum range of 5,000m and is fitted with a tandem HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) warhead able to destroy armoured or tanks protected with reactive armour (ERA). Second armament of the VT5 includes one remotely operated weapon station mounted on the roof of the turret which is armed with a 12.7mm machine gun and one 40mm automatic grenade launcher. Two banks of three electrically operated smoke-grenade dischargers are mounted on each side at the rear of the turret and coupled to a laser detector. The turret is fully stabilized to offer high accuracy against static and moving targets.

Design and protection

The layout of the VT5 / Type 15 or ZTQ-15 is standard for a main battle tank with a crew of three, including the driver seated at the front center of the hull, gunner and commander in the turret. The VT5 can be fitted with two different armor configurations. The hull and the turret of the VT5 is made with all-welded steel armour which provides stand protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters. To increase the protection, the VT5 can be equipped with advanced composite armour and/or explosive reactive armour (ERA). At AirShow China 2016, the VT5 was also fitted with slat armour (wire cage armour) on the turret sides and either side of the hull to increase protection against rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and anti-tank guided missiles. The VT5 has a combat weight from 33 to 36 tons depending on the armour configuration and and measures 9.20 m in length, by 3.30 m (with armour package) in width, and 2.50 m in height without the remotely operated weapon station.

Mobility

The VT5 / Type 15 or ZTQ-15 is motorized with a 1,000 hp electronically controlled diesel engine mounted at the rear of the hull. and coupled to a hydro-mechanical full automatic transmission with a pivot steering capability and a cooling system. It can run at a maximum road speed of 70 km/h, 35 to 40 km/h in off-road conditions with a maximum cruising range of 450 km. The VT5 can climb vertical obstacles of 0.85 m, a gradient of 60% and a fording depth of 1.1 m without preparation. The suspension of the VT5 consists of six road wheels with idler at the front, drive sprocket at the rear and track return rollers. The upper parts of the suspension is protected by armour package. The VT5 can be fitted with external additional fuel drums mounted at the rear of the hull to extend the cruising range.

Accessories

Standard equipment of the VT5 / Type 15 or ZTQ-15 includes NRBC protection and air conditioning system, computerized firing control system, laser range finder, command-and control equipment, a tactical command system and a navigation system that includes INS (Inertial Navigation System) and satellite communications. The gunner and the commander position are equipped with stabilized day/thermal sights incorporating a laser rangefinder. The VT5 has also a panoramic sight allows commanders to have all-round surveillance on the battlefield without being disturbed by turret motion.

I really want to see this in Warthunder, though it'll probably be awhile. Looks really cool, and I imagine gameplay on the same vein as the type 62. I really hope it will be in the main tree though.

My idea is while Type 15 will be added as a followup tank to the CM11, while Type96A will be added as followup tank to the vanilla Type96, while the export variant of the Type 15 is called VT5. VT5 can be added as a premium vehicle.

Considering this "sill" has a 105mm rifled gun, I think the export variant VT-5 would be a great 8.7-9.0-9.3 premium indeed. I'm not all to hot about premiums, but the T-62 as the only higher rank tank just ain't doing it for China.

Hopefully without overinflated BR and repair costs as is usual for Gaijin when it comes to China!

 

China has so many interesting vehicles it would be great to see more of the unique domestic designs instead of the Soviet copies that Gaijin is pushing!

Well, T-62 IS the worst tier 6 premium in game... Aside from all the controversy with it being in Chinese tree, China should really have a better premium tank at tier 6.

Here is a video of Type 15 showing it's impressive braking distance and it climbing a steep slope. I hope it gets its 550+mm pen round and 3.5-4 sec reload. It will be a fast moving beast. I think it will be the best light tank in the game if Gaijin doesn't mess it up.

I would have to agree with you but I think it should not have a 550+ penetration round because this would be a overpowered vehicle, like for example the new Sprut that was added into the recent patch which is Ground Breaking that the 3BM46 APFSDS round has 536mm of penetration but if this vehicle gets more than 550+ penetration  this machine would be way better than the Sprut because this vehicle has better protection since this tank has ERA's. I think it should have M900 equivalent penetration values.

I think it will be better because it has a better protection and it has a faster reload since this machine has an autoloader!

Also I heard that the Sprut has better firepower than the ZTQ-15 but however though the Mobility and Protection is a lot better than the Sprut! But I could probably think that this machine would either be in the same BR as the Sprut 2S25M! But this is what I think.

bustle autoloaders are pretty amazing as long as you have the right round selected, people have timed the japanese type 10's reload at around two and a half second or so at times. That small fast high ROF playstyle would suit the game perfectly

The biggest reason I'd look forward to this thing more than the ZTZ99A, I mean I want both, but I spawn light vehicles more at top tier than MBTs just because the maps are awful and favour faster positioning and reactions over armour.

Luckily Gaijin passed it for consideration. Should have 3rd gen thermals since it's a 2010s tank and the tank is noted to have a 'semi-active suspension' I'm not sure if that means it can adjust suspension or not. There's also like ~4 Type 15 variants(including VT-5s) So I can see China being a strong contender for a good high tier light tank lineup. This would hopefully boost the TT's popularity.

 

Also I HOPE they will give the tank perfect gun handling stats and not poor turret/gun traverse speed, it's not an 80s tank!

Does anyone know the weight of the Type 15? I know the VT-5(different from Type-15) weights 33 tons with composite armor on turret and hull, 36 tons with heavy composite on sides and even thicker turret face composite as stated by a Norinco Armor Day video. Since we saw Type 15 with ceramic armor and another variant with ERA(Type 15 doesn't use composite armor), could it be less than 33 tons?

The standard weight is 33 tons and the standard output of engine horsepower is 883 horsepower. However, due to the specialization of plateau, it can be pressurized to about 1000 horsepower

I do want to point out that the DTC02-105 APFSDS actually exists! Now I know that all of you probably know that it actually exists, but I am gonna bring evidence that it actually does exist. Here is a screen shot of it.
