As we all know, recently, War Thunder eSports has started to become more serious with the introduction of cash prizes in the last WTL final.

However, the WTL is primarily focused on team play and the TSS (torunament website) is focused mostly on team based formats.

The main issue of that path of development is the negligence of good old fashioned duels.

Dueling in War Thunder was present as early as in 2015. An example of this format was the "Aces of Normandy" tournament series.

Since then, there have been multiple "single player based" tournaments but most of them, excluding the "spitfire IXc" tournament and the latest Battle Royale tournaments, put the player in teams where teamplay and skill of the randomly selected team member impacted the outcome more than the skill of the individual player; while "spitfire" and battle royale tournaments were still not "duels" but a "free for all" type of an arena with multiple enemies

Most of the popular online games, where PvP gameplay is the primary focus of the game itself like in War Thunder, have a competitive ranked modes.

War Thunder has no such thing. The closest thing to ranked competitive modes are TSS modes , however its focus is on team based gameplay and it has its pros and cons for a regular player who might not have enough time to set aside to participate in one of the TSS hosted tournaments.

The introduction of EAC in War Thunder also provides a better foundation for more competitive content.

  • The idea of WT Dueling League is:

- to combine the best aspects of both SQBs and TSS

- promote competitive play in Warthunder

- increase the numbers of players in TSS team modes

  • War Thunder Dueling League would work in a way the "Aces of Normandy" tournament series worked.

The League would run for 4 weeks, each week would have its own vehicle presets and leaderboards.

The League would be played on the weekends, from Saturday 09:00 UTC to Monday 09:00 UTC

Participation, per game mode, would be limited to 40 games maximum, which would make total of 160 games max per season

Leaderboards would award points from 1st to 250th place after each weekly slot ends. Point award system would give 250pts for the 1st place at the end of the week, 249pts to the 2nd place etc. untill 250th place recives 1 point. In the end, after 4 weeks, top 128 players based on the points collected, would be allowed to participate on a TSS based tournament in their respective game modes where they would have a main, elimination based, tournament. (example, 1v1 mix for WTL s2 where qualifiers were held in battle royale format)

  • Controversial part of this proposal, the rewards.

Rewards for weekly tournaments can be made that top 50 players recive an amount of GE and/or Premium account, 500GE+3d Prem for top 10, 300GE+1d Prem for top 25 and 100GE for top 50; while top 100 or top200 recive unique tournament 50% or 25% rp boosters already in use on TSS platform.

Also, each 10 victories, a chest can be awarded that would contain Silver lions, GE, Premium account time, random cammouflages, random discounts etc.

The main TSS end-season tournaments would have the larger prize pools and special decals and titles. Example: 2500GE 1500GE 1000GE or an Ultra Rare vehicle cupon for top 3 player per game mode and smaller GE prizes for places 4-8. Duelist hero and other tournament titles and decals can be awarded too.

Bracket would be classical double elimination (DE) that is already present on TSS.

The rewards for the Dueling League are justified by the amount of players who would actively participate in this kind of a mode.

In the eyes of the Competitive community, the 1v1 duels are best suited for implementation in the game itself, not on TSS since most of the players can not participate or stay for longer periods of time in fixed schedule TSS tournaments, therefore, the implementation of Dueling League in the game itself would be the best possible course of action while TSS remains a team based part of the WT eSports scene

  • Tournament rules and Modes

Air tournaments would have identical rules to the ones found on TSS platform, gun lock timer to 35s, 20m max per match, 2v2 duel maps with integrated best of 3 format

Ground tournaments would have near identical rules for to the ones found on TSS platform, 15m max per match, 2 spawns max, conquest maps, minimap markers, except for the issue of overhead markers, arcade-style overhead markers in realistic battles are present on TSS.  This matter should be decided by popular vote to avoid any bias or personal preferences.

There would be 6 tournaments held, 3 for air and 3 for ground, ab/rb/sb modes.

A player would be allowed to play every single mode if he wanted to, however only 40 games per weekend per mode

  • Vehicle presets

Since the Dueling league would not be under limitiations of the TSS platform, the vehicles chosen in the lineups can be given automatically to every player in their stock form on basic crew slot, like it was done in the "Spitfire" tournament a while ago

This would allow all players that have T2 unlocked to participate in the Dueling League

The vehicles chosen for the leagues have been selected by the veterans of the TSS and eSport community and can/would be changed every season if the fluidity of the game itself presents balance issues in the current proposed linueps

- There would be 8 dueling aircrafts, 2 for each weekend, switch between them would occur on Sunday 09:00 UTC, midpoint of the tournament

- There would be 4 tank presets that would be switched each week
