Relation with Ping and Internet Speed

Does a ... fast Internet connection = Low Ping?

If Yes...does subscribing to faster internet substantially improve ping?

You can have fast Internet and still get bad ping depending on the server you're connecting to, ping is the time it takes to communications to reach the server and it can be affected by a lot of factors not just your providers speed, location being a big one

Yes, I understand fully the factor considering distance, I live in the south eastern hemisphere...so ping to US and EU servers vary from 220 to 300+ at worst...so you're saying a faster internet will not help? And how about the up and  coming 5g technology....when it comes standard?

It could help but are your speeds bad right now? if you've got really low speeds right now and you're going to upgrade to much a higher speed package then you should definitely see an improvement

At the moment I'm connected via Fiber cable...speed is about 15mbs...it's not that bad...but was just thinking if the next package would make a big difference

Unless you've got a really crappy service provider, ping is mostly limited by how far away you are from the servers, not how fast the internet you pay for is.

Improvements in global internet infrastructure might speed up how fast internet signals are transferred across long distances but not by much. It's already within an order of magnitude of the speed of light, you can't get much better. This isn't in your control anyway.

200-300ping for US/EU servers in the south eastern is as good as it gets, you will not get better anytime soon.

If there are no other opinions...will accept this as fact, so thanks very much guys...

I play in Australia and no matter where in the country you are its bad in Air , I dont play anything else, I played in 4 corners of the country over a week and it was garbage. Ive come to learn as I get better at the game I see more off how bad it is and what a major handicap it is, the only fix is a game server in Aus and Gaijin think its not worth it, I assume they feel that we will play with the rubbish connection anyway, and we do but I wont spend any more money on the game and I have a sneaking feeling that Im not the lone ranger, Id like to know how much it costs them to host a server, in the big picture Id think its pennies but I dont know.

No expert here but my understanding there is ping time which is the time it takes a data packet to get to the server and back to your client, then there is jitter which is the time fluctuation between packets, then there is lost packets that dont make the trip and must be resent.

So if you have jitter and lost packets you will be lucky to hit anything , basicly the game will not know where you are which causes all sorts of weird effects in game, everything from sparking to being slammed into the ground after youve turned up,  it doesn't say in game how erratic your connection is just the time average of packets, Ive had 290 ping and its hopeless then next match its 340 ping in game and I get 20 kills.

I also think the 30+player  matches are worse, Ive seen 4 planes all in a line shooting the guy in front of the next and nobody is hitting anything for what seems like about 3 seconds and then boom all planes are wrecked at the same time.

As I said we need a game server in this part of world to be able to progress, my skill to connection is topped out and progress has slowed to a crawl, the top players can snap shoot and get instant kills, they would be horrified playing with our internet .

Problem is...like SAS servers, which is where we get -100 ping ...which is great. But nobody is on it...everybody wants to climb on board with the US and EU servers...Is there any kind of repeater thingy, that they could come up with, and that could boost the signal to compensate???

There's already a vast network of repeaters, otherwise you wouldn't be able to connect with the US at all

A signal at the speed of light traveling through the shortest possible path on earth's surface from Aus/NZ to Europe or the US would have a ping of about 100-130. The laws of physics prevent it from being any faster, no future technology will ever give you a better ping than that unless we build cables going through the center of the earth. In that case, you'd drop it down to about 35ms.

Now factor in that your signal has to take existing internet cables which are probably not directly connecting you to the server you want to access and thus take a detour, as well as the fact that the numerous repeaters and junctions your signal has to pass through don't work instantaneously, and you see why 200-300ms is very reasonably close to the theoretical limit for what we can practically do.

I doubt we'll be building internet cables through thousands of kilometers of lava just to speed up people's ping so you better get used to it.
