  1. 1. Would you like to see the tropicalized Leclerc in War Thunder : Ground Forces ?

    • Yes, I would like to see it.
    • No, and I have reasons for it (explain).
    • Only as a premium vehicle.

Why adding the tropicalized Leclerc would be beneficial to War Thunder ?

This will allow the players like those of the French tech tree to have an unique rank VII main battle tank.

A bit of history :

Also known as the XLT, the tropicalized Leclerc can be considered as an improved version of the Leclerc Serie 1 (a.k.a S1) specifically designed to meet the needs of the UAE army (user-friendly ergonomics for illiterate conscripts and a hot, dry, dusty, harsh climate amongst others).

The tropicalized Leclerc first entered service in the United Arab Emirates Army in November 1994. A total of 388 were purchased.

They were deployed in Kosovo between 1999 and 2000 and since August 2015, tropicalized Leclerc tanks of the UAE are deployed in combat operations in Yemen.

Some data :

  • User : United Arab Emirates Army
  • In service : November 1994 - present
  • Number built : 388 tanks
  • Hull length : 7.03 m
  • Width : 3.43 m (hull) 3.6 m (with ballistic side skirts)
  • Combat weight : 57 tonnes
  • Engine power : 1500 hp at 2700 RPM
  • Engine max torque : 4545 Nm at 2000 RPM
  • Top speed : 71 or 72 km/h (both forwards and backwards)

Distinctive features compared with the in-game Leclerc Serie 1 :

  • Extended composite side skirts (8 panels per side instead of 3) protecting the three quarters of the hull length.
  • ATO 7.62 mm remote controlled weapon station slaved to the commander's panoramic sight.
  • HL 80 commander's panoramic sight fitted with a laser rangefinder and the Alis thermal imager (Leclerc S1's commander panoramic sight had no laser rangefinder and no thermal imager)
  • German HSWL 295 TM transmission with 5 forward and 5 reverse gears (72 km/h backwards)
  • Powered by a V12 German engine: the MT 883 Ka 500 is mounted transversely, it has slightly less torque and thus, slower acceleration (0 to 32 km/h in 6 sec instead of 5 sec)
  • Combat weight : 57 tonnes ; heavier than the Leclerc Serie 1 (54.5 t)
  • The UAE also purchased a French-made high-explosive 120 mm shell in addition of the OFL 120 F1 APFSDS and the OECC 120 F1 HEAT-FS.
  • The HL 60 gunner sight has a × 14 zoom instead of × 10

Things that the Gaijin Entertainment's 3D artists should pay close attention :

  • lengthened hull (+15 cm)
  • redesigned engine compartment (louvers, radiator, grills, ...)
  • rear-mounted APU
  • protected headlights
  • larger bustle rack
  • storage boxes on each side of the autoloader are replaced by storage baskets
  • two spare track links fixed onto the hull front
  • increased internal fuel capacity
  • cooling fins on the sprocket hub
  • black smoke is expelled through exhaust (French Leclerc only expels white smoke due to their specific engine)

+1

I support this tank, and I added it to my Arab-Iranian tech tree suggestion. I think that this vehicles fits better into an Arab tech tree, rather than the French tech tree, because France never used this tank.

+1 for France.

It's still a French tank, built in France. Could fit in the French tree under the AMX-40, or as a premium such as the AMX-30 Super if other Leclerc are added.

It was never intended to be used by France, and the French military never used these tanks. Thus, it should go into an Arab tech tree, where it would be at home.

Surely I voted +1, but I agree with Borotovas.

While this tank was built in France, it has nothing to do with French army. Yes, adding this Leclerc to French TT is possible, but adding it to Arab-Iranian TT is far more correct because UAE was the army to use this tank. Look at the Chinese TT: it has lots of vehicles which were never built in China but they actually served there. Maybe this is not the best example, but it shows my general idea.

Well honestly I don't really care, as I don't support your tree. That's why I want it in French tree aside the AMX-30 Super or AMX-40.

Except that it's still a French design and the French tech tree is currently anemic.

Countries such as the UK and Italy already use export-built tanks (Vickers MBT Mk. I and Mk. 7, OF-40, ...).

+1 and halfway agree with Borotovas. it could be added to France and just have the UAE flag thumbnail.

it's not a massively different model from the base Leclerc (so its kind of like the Type 90 and Type 90B for ingame purposes) and yeah, this is exactly what export-only tank variants like the Italian Leone , British Vickers Mk.7, and the AMX-40 and 32 all wanted to be, and what some like the OF-40 and T-72M (well, when purchased from outside of the Eastern Bloc) succeeded at being.

plus its not like the Sherman or F-104: according to wikipedia its only users are France and the UAE, and the UAE uses as many as the French themselves.

France 406 + 20 armoured recovery vehicles.

United Arab Emirates 388 + 46 armoured recovery vehicles.

so it's either this or nothing... because lets face it whether you do or don't support an Arab-Iranian megatree, that's going to be MANY years away.

It could work in the same way the Italians have that Saudi OF-40, it will be in the French tree, as I doubt gaijin will waste time and resources on making another nation that few are asking for.

Not a few. A lot of people actually voted for the Arab TT. I don't see why they wouldn't add it.

I think this would be a great Squadron Vehicle or Premium high tier tank. It would give the French Ground TT something comparable to the Leopard 2PL, or the T-72AV (and its mainly in foreign use). I hope it gets added to the game as a Squadron, Premium, or standard tech tree vehicle regardless. +1 :salute:
