The Pvkv III was an experimental Swedish tank destroyer, converted and tested in the early 50's as a way to extend the life of the Strv m/41. It used a 57mm anti-tank gun in a new, larger turret. Pvkv stands for "Pansarvärnskanonvagn", which is Swedish for tank destroyer.

Compared to the similar Pvkv IV "Värjan", this one has:

  • (+) More crew members
  • (+) Much faster turret traverse
  • (+) Much better reload rate
  • (+) More hull armor
  • (-) Worse turret armor
  • (-) Worse mobility
  • (-) Much larger profile
  • (-) No coaxial machine gun

Design:

A Strv m/41 was used as the base of the new tank destroyer, with the S/II model being used over the S/I due to the former's better armor. The chassis was unchanged, but the turret was replaced with a much larger, blockier turret.

The gun used was the Pvkan m/43 towed anti-tank gun.

It could use the following shells:

  • Sgr m/43 HE
    • 2.82 kg
    • 500g TNT
    • 600 m/s
  • Slpgr m/43 APHEBC-T
    • 2.51 kg
    • 60 g TNT
    • 850 m/s
    • Has 88 mm penetration from Gaijin's calculator
  • Slpprj m/43 AP-T
    • 2.7 kg
    • 830 m/s
    • Has 102 mm penetration from Gaijin's calculator
  • Slpprj m/49 APDS-T
    • 37 mm core
    • 1.0 kg
    • 1200 m/s
    • Penetration: 140 mm at 90° and 500 meters. Source (note that these are from experimental trials)

 57mm Shells:

The Pvkv III was tested around the same time as the similar Pvkv IV "Värjan", which had the same 57mm gun. While the Pvkv III managed to achieve a much better reload rate (12-14 rounds per minute) due to its larger, 3-man turret compared to the Pvkv IV, in the end the Pvkv III also was not accepted into service. The sole prototype likely ended up getting scrapped.

Hell ya this plus PVKV 4 would be amazing addition to the tech tree, I am still wondering why these didn't make it in, I am guessing because it would take to much work model the gun physics as they would be the only two tanks using the 57mm gun

Sorry, but I messed up the information on the Slpgr m/43 APHE. It actually has 60 grams of explosives, not 6 grams. Also, since it's an APHE-BC shell, not APCBC, it doesn't get the extra penetration bonus from Gaijin's pen calculator. As such, the penetration (according to the calculator) is 88mm, not 111mm. However, the other rounds should be correct.

Honestly APBC should get the bonus if Gaijin was in any way consistent. Also you may want to consider remaking the poll. This does affect the BR of the vehicle. Most people seem to have voted 3.3, higher than the PZ 3 which has similar gun performance, much better armour and better mobility.

Yeah, that's fair. I'll reset the polls, and do the same for the Pvkv IV Varjan poll.

Also, as a note to everyone voting - just because the Pvkv III could use APDS, doesn't necessarily mean it will, so you don't have to base the BR vote on that.
