New Chinese Helicopter Tree:

After founding the Pan-Asian Tech Tree Project, I planned to release it proper, but after that was almost completed the Gaijin Chinese Tech Tree Released. I decided to instead post all the documented information we have into the suggestions (tanks/aircraft/ships/helicopters).
     
     Take all Battle-Ratings/Ranks of the Helicopters with a Grain of Salt. The best I can do is estimate based on their performance, and issues arise (and its hard to find a Battle Rating) when you are only guesstimating. Any BR/Rank can change when its only on Paper.

I will also include as much community support as possible, adding Helicopters suggested by the community on this tree.

Basic Info: 

"On August 13, 1969, AIDC signed an agreement with Bell to assemble 118 UH-1H for the ROC Army. Included in the work was the co-production of eighty Avco Lycoming T53-L-13B turboshaft engines for these helicopters, which AIDC shared 23.7% of the work. To accommodate the engine production, AIDC established the Jiehshou No. 2 Factory in 1972. The first UH-1H was rolled out on December 14, 1970 and the last one was completed in 1976."


"In Transportation conditions, the UH-1H could be armed Type 57 (M60) 7.62mm door guns, alongside this a number of ROCA UH-1H had been locally fitted with M3 Aerial Rocket Artillery weapon systems to provide gunship capabilities before the Army acquired the AH-1W. The M3 contained a pair of 24-tube 70mm mighty mouse rockets in large rectangular box-like containers. Later in service, the M3 was replaced with a pair of much smaller 7-tube 70mm mighty mouse rocket pods."

 

"The UH-1H was assigned to the 601st Air Cavalry Brigade at Longtan Air Base, the 602nd Air Calvary Brigade at Hsinchu Air Base, as well as Aviation Training Command at Guerin airport. The UH-1H would relinquish its gunship role with the arrival of the ROCA's first dedicated gunships, the AH-1W Super Cobra in 1993. In 2010, the Republic of China purchased new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to replace the UH-1H in its transport role. The last of the ROCA's UH-1H's were retired on December 30th, 2018."

Basic Info: 

"The OH-6A made its first flight in 1963. The Cayuse was publicly introduced in 1966 and set several records, including record for endurance, speed and rate of climb. In 1966 it entered military service with the US Army. During the Vietnam War the OH-6 helicopters served in huge numbers and were used for light observation and utility roles."

 

"The OH-6A [Cayuse] (white) was used alongside the AH-1 Cobra (red) attack helicopters, forming (pink) hunter killer teams. It could accomplish missions that bigger, slower and louder helicopters couldn’t do. Under enemy fire this nimble machine had to flew low to the ground, just above the jungle canopy. Once enemy positions opened fire at the Cayuse, they were destroyed by escorting Cobras. Due to it’s designation “LOH” (Light Observation Helicopter), pilots and crew nicknamed this helicopter “LOACH”."

The OH-6, proved to be a extremely successful helicopter, and was eventually exported or found its way to 6 other countries. This includes the Republic of China, Spain, Japan, The Dominican Republic, Denmark, and Nicaragua.

Basic Info: 

 "Prior to the OH-58D, the Republic of China Army operated a handful of OH-6A's as observation helicopters, but by the late 1980's it was clear that they were in need of replacing. A program to modernize the Republic of China's aircraft and rotorcraft called Lu Peng began in August of 1991. To replace the OH-6A in the observation role, it was clear that its direct US successor was the ideal replacement to the ROCA's aging OH-6A's. The OH-58D is considered the most heavily armed variant of the OH-58 series of observation helicopters. Powered by a single Rolls-Royce T703-AD-700A turbine producing 650 SHP, the OH-58D is a small and swift helicopter. Equipped on the top of the rotor blades is the Mast Mounted Sight (MMS), which is equipped with a stabilized thermal camera system, as well as a laser rangefinder and designator. This allowed the helicopter to both observe and engage targets without needing to expose the entire helicopter, as all it needed was the MMS to peak over a hill or treeline. In order to complete its mission safely and return home, the OH-58D was equipped with an infrared exhaust suppression system, an IRCM "disco ball" jammer, as well as radar warning, and laser warning receivers. In February 1992, the ROCA placed an order for 12 OH-58D's, as well as 14 optional additional helicopters. The first OH-58D's arrived in Taiwan in October of 1993, and all optional 14 helicopters were ordered, bring the total to 26. Again, in 1997 additional OH-58's were request by the military, and in 1998 Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation was awarded a contract to assemble 13 OH-58D's. The first AIDC assembled OH-58D rolled off the production line in 1999, and all 13 were delivered by 2001. The OH-58D also one of the first armed observation helicopter operated by the ROCA, being equipped with two pylons on each side capable of mounting two Hellfires, or two 7-tube Hydra rocket pods. The port side pylon also is capable of mounting the M296 12.7mm gunpod with a maximum rate of fire of 850 rounds per minute. OH-58D's in ROCA service are currently assigned to Armed Reconnaissance Battalion's of both the 601st, and 602nd Air Cavalry Brigades, with 38 in service in 2019."

"The Eurocopter/Aerospatiale SA 341/342 Gazelle is a French built light utility helicopter which was first flown in 1967. Military missions include attack, antitank, antihelicopter, reconnaissance, utility, transport, and training."
 

In the Mid-1980's Eight of the SA-342L Gazelle were sold to the PLA by France. In French Service they were armed with HOT wire-guided ATGM's but were replaced by the HJ-8 ATGM in PLA Service. The PLA now mostly uses them in training exercises.

"The Bell AH-1W Super Cobra was the final variation of the Super Cobra line; a twin engine configuration of the Cobra and further development of the Sea Cobra. The AH-1W's twin engine design improved safety while operating over water as required by the United States Marine Corps. Each General Electric T700-401 turboshaft produces 1,700 SHP continuously, but was capable of up to 2,082 SHP for a 30 minute duration. The AH-1W also featured a laser designating system, thermals, and the ability to mount AIM-9 Sidewinders and AGM-114 Hellfires. As early as the 1984, the Republic of China was interested in acquiring a helicopter dedicated to performing a gunship role for its army and considered both the MD500 as well as the Bo 105. Under the program Lu Peng, the ROCA sought to upgrade its helicopter fleet and made a request to purchase 18 AH-1W Super Cobra's alongside OH-58's. The order was officially placed in February 1992, and the first 9 AH-1W's were delivered in April 1993. By the mid 1990's several batches of AH-1W's were purchased and delivered to the ROCA totaling 42 helicopters. In 1997 another order was placed for 21 more AH-1W's, with the final delivery being completed in 2001. The AH-1W Super Cobra's were attached to the 601st and 602nd Air Calvary Brigades located in Longtan, and Hsinsher. Additionally AH-1W's operate with Aviation Training Command in Kueijen. In total the ROCA had received 63 AH-1W Super Cobra's, of these 61 remain in service as of 2020 after two were lost in accidents in 1999 and 2009. The AH-1W currently remains the primary attack helicopter of the ROCA's foreseeable future."

"The Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian is the latest variant of the famous AH-64 Apache to enter service. Originally designated the AH-64D Block III Apache Longbow, it was redesignated AH-64E Apache Guardian in 2012 to better represent the increased capabilities of the type. The AH-64E received new composite rotor blades, more powerful General Electric T700-GE-701D turboshaft engines producing 1,994 SHP each, as well as a new transmission to accommodate the power. Due to these upgrades both speed, climb rate, and payload capacity increased on the AH-64E. Other upgrades include a revised landing gear design, Joint Tactical Information Distribution System data link, the ability to control UAV's, and full instrument flight rules flight capability. On June 2011, the Republic of China purchased 30 AH-64E Apache Guardians to complement its fleet of AH-1W Super Cobra's then in service. These AH-64E's were equipped with a variety of defensive measures including the AN/AVR-2 laser warning receiver, and AN/AAR-57 missile warning system. On the November 5th 2013, the first 6 AH-64E's arrived to Taiwan in its initial batch. On April 25th 2014, an AH-64E crashed into a building in poor weather, the crash left the pilot and gunner injured and was determined to be pilot error when the pilot descended rapidly through the clouds without checking their instruments. In response the Republic of China increased AH-64E simulator training. On October of the same year, the final AH-64E's were delivered to the Republic of China. On July 17th 2018, the AH-64E was declared to be fully operational, being deployed in two squadrons within the 601st Air Calvary Brigade in Longtan Air Base. 29 ROCA AH-64E's are currently operated as of 2020."

"The Z-9W (also known as WZ-9) attack helicopter was developed by Harbin Aviation Industry (Group) Co. Ltd based on its Z-9 multirole light helicopter (Chinese copy of the French AS 365N Dauphin-II). Harbin Aircraft Manufacture Corporation (HAMC) started to develop an attack variant of its Z-9 utility helicopter in the mid-1980s. The prototype was only intended for anti-armor role, carrying a roof-mounted optical sight unit and four HJ-8 anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) under the weapon pylons. This variant first flew in 1987 and live test fire of the missile from the helicopter took place in 1989. The formal production variant introduced in the early 1990s incorporated using a range of armaments, such as 23mm cannon, 12.7mm machine gun pod, 57/90mm unguided rocket pod, and also TY-90 IR-homing short-range air-to-air missile. Several dozens of the Z-9W attack helicopters were delivered into the PLA Army Aviation Corps 8th Army Aviation Group (Regiment) subordinated to 38th Group Army in Beijing Military area in the mid-1990s. as a result of the PLA's decision to give high priority into the Army Aviation Corps in its modernisation program, much more units have received the Z-9W after 2000."

Zhi-9 Multipurpose Helicopter / Wuzhi-9 Gunship Helicopter

 

Basic Info: 

"After the first Z-9W a further improved night-attack version dubbed Z-9WA, it was similar to AS 565CA Panther was developed in 2000 featuring more powerful engines and a pair of stub wings which can carry up to 8 KD-8 ATGMs or PL-90AAMs. Its nose is redesigned to carry a low-light TV/IRST turret for night missions, with RWR antennas installed on both sides. A mast-mounted millimeter wave radar prototype was also tested."

 

"The Z-9WA has better armor protection in the cockpit area, a flare launcher, datalink and a redesigned NVG compatible cockpit. An air data sensor is installed on the starboard side of the cabin. A large datalink antenna is installed underneath the boom. An improved version (Z-9WZ) was also developed and it first flew on December 29, 2004. This variant is thought to feature an improved fire-control system including a laser designator which allows the helicopter to fire the new (up to 8) KD-9 ATGM or FN-6 AAM. It is also powered by two WZ-8H turboshaft engines. A few were seen carrying an EO turret under the stab wing for battlefield surveillance purpose." 

"Z-9WA/WZs have been entering service with the Army Aviation since early 2005 as a stop-gap measure until Z-10/Z-19 (see below) enters the service. PLAAF also took delivery of a few Z-9WZs in 2007. Some of them are equipped with loudspeakers and a search light for SAR purpose. A similar variant (Z-9ZH) is also in service with the PLAAF unit stationed in Hong Kong."

"The Harbin Z-19 - 'Black Whirlwind' is a Chinese Recon/Attack Helicopter developed by HMAC (Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation) for the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) produced from 2011 onwards. "Developed by the Changhe Aircraft Industries Corporation the Changhe Z-11WB is claimed to be the first helicopter solely developed by the PRC despite being largely based upon the Eurocopter AS350. Research into the construction of what was then a utility helicopter began towards the end of the 1980's with the first flight taking place in 1994 and entrance to service in 1998. Chief designer Wu Ximing is crediting with developing this particular helicopter, alongside others such as the CAIC Z-10 and his influence can be seen here through the use of CAD/CAM methods."

 

"The Z-11WB variant is a new attack and recon derivative developed from the existing Z-11 with a redesigned cockpit and Electro-optics ball under the chin. Its missions incorporate ground attack, recon and command amongst others. With an overal length of around 13 metres this is a small helicopter with light weight and maximum take off weight in the region of 2,200kg. The redesigned cockpit which already provides excellent visibility, includes multi functional displays to reduce pilot workload and space for a sole pilot and three troops. These rear seats can be folded to incorporate door mounted weapons or for additional load space. "The Hughes Helicopters 500MD/ASW Defender is a lightweight anti-submarine warfare helicopter. The 500MD was born out of the realization that the OH-6 could perform more than just a scouting role, and would indeed make a good lightweight multi-mission helicopter with roles such as anti-tank and ASW based variants. The 500MD/ASW was a further development of the earlier 500M/ASW helicopter which was operated by the Spanish Navy. The 500MD/ASW based on the 500D, was equipped with a more powerful 420 SHP Allison 250-C20B turboshaft engine, a new five bladed rotor, AN/ASQ-81C(V)2 magnetic anomaly detector on the port side, a haul-down point for landing on ships in adverse weather, as well as an air-to-surface RDR-1300 search radar. Weaponry for the 500MD/ASW was nothing substantial. The weapon payload consisted of a maximum of two Mk.44, or Mk.46 torpedoes mounted side-by-side under the fuselage of the helicopter, though one was carried more commonly. Twelve helicopters were purchased by the Republic of China in 1977, with deliveries taking place between 1980 and 1983 just before McDonnell Douglas purchased Hughes Helicopters. They were assigned to the Fleet Helicopter Squadron, and placed on the small Yang-Class destroyers. In 1987 the first operational loss of a 500MD/ASW occurred, with one pilot missing. The lost 500MD/ASW was replaced with a unarmed 500MD which was then regulated to training duties. In 1991, all 500MD/ASW's were transferred to the 501st Helicopter Squadron, where nine remain in service in 2020. The 500MD/ASW would serve the Republic of China Navy exclusively, as no other nation operated the variant."

I just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to read through this post, I wanted to make it to give the community an idea on what to expect for a full tree, and to give Gaijin an example of what they should try and aim for in the future [not expecting all of them obviously].

Many still seeth at the concept of US/ROC vehicles and USSR/PRC vehicles in the same tree, but I'm pretty open to this. After all, they don't have to include something like the AH-64E if they really wanted, just having the Z-10 as the best Chinese heli.

+1 this suggestion couldn't be any better... Just I'm not sure about Kiowa and OH-6A tbh. I mean there gotta be ROC Army Helicopters in this TT for sure, since they call it China, not PLA, but I guess UH-1, AH1W and AH64E are enough for this tree. Recon Helis such as Kiowa gotta be from PLA inventory while there are many variations in that side... that would be better for not making US Fanboys mad. Cuz they still cry about American toys currently in Chinese TT :dntknw:

The problem of chinese heli tech tree is early PLA helicopter does not have a large ammo capacity (only 4 HJ-8 for Z-11) similar to the stock heli of Germany and Britain, but has a high peneration similar to HOT2. It will be very hard to balance. Only 4 missiles can not kill much vehicles and may not worth its spawn points.

But I think China needs more unique vehicles, to make up for the copy+paste American planes/tanks. So I voted for not adding the American copy+paste ROCAF helicopters.

but I think maybe the PLA Harbin Z-5 (Chinese Mi-4)  will be a better choice for a starter, due to that there is already two Uh-1h in game, the american on and a japanese one, while only having one Mi-4 helicopter

I'm not sure it's the same pod we're talking about (it looks like it is though), but I got some pictures of a twin MG pod that could be mounted on Alouette II & III and on Gazelle :

It looks like it's a Matra pod and not FN though if I read the panel correctly.

I think it would be better if we move Taiwanese helis to premiums. The current Chinese air and ground tech tree already infamous for copy-pastes and mixture of PLA and Taiwanese's ROCA. If Taiwanese helis are in premiums I believe we would see them a lot more frequently than PLA's. Taiwanese heli players are alleviated from painful grinding. Domestic design of PLA remains in main tech tree as indigenous stuff are always welcome in main TT. Everybody is happy XD
