Can I unlink Steam and only use WT client?

My son has been playing WT on my Steam account while I play through the WT client. I started playing games on my Steam library, which means he can't play when I use Steam, so I want to move him to the stand-alone client, but I don't want him to lose all his progress. Funnily enough I use the same email address for my Steam account, and my WT client account, but there is no issue running the separate instances and playing squads.

Is it possible to to move the progress from Steam to his own WT client account?

somehow i kind of doubt that this is possible but better ask the support as they a) will know for sure and b) would have to do this anyway if it is possible at all ^^

https://support.gaijin.net/hc/en-us  (login at the top right and then create a ticket)

...but there is also a way to login to the game (on the Steam account) without even using Steam at all - the web login (aka single sign on) on the login page.

this will open a web browser window with a login page where he can use the 'sign in through Steam' button (if Steam Guard is activated it will ask for a verification

code on the first time - it will be send to the email address bound to the Steam account! be prepared ^^).

to start the game without Steam just run the launcher.exe directly in the WT Steam game folder (maybe create a desktop shortcut for convenience) - so there is no

need to install another (standalone) copy of the game.

You can link Steam account to email and use this email to login in standalone client. You don't need Steam after that at all. There's a pinned topic right at this forum.

  • 8 months later...

First you have to use Gaijin Account Login through the game launcher. Then delete the War Thunder shortcut that the installation process created, after that, search the game folder, that should be in Steam commom apps folder, locate the War Thunder launcher there, copy it and paste the shortcut where you want. This way the game launches apart from Steam and you don't need to run the Steam to play.
