The  Grecale  was one of four destroyers of the Maestrale class.  The Maestrales were developed from the preceding Dardo and Folgore classes with the primary goal of increasing their seaworthiness.  To this effect the dimensions of the ships were considerably increased.  The larger dimensions allowed better weight distribution, especially in the transverse, and better hull strength.  The increase in hull size also gave the class better speed despite using the same machinery as the preceding classes.  The four ships of the class were the  Grecale, Libeccio, Maestrale,  and  Scirocco.   They were all laid down in 1931 and completed in 1934.

As built the ships had the following specifications:

Displacement (Full):  2207

Length:  106.7m

Beam:  10.2m

Draft:  3.31m

Machinery:  2 sets Parsons steam turbines, 3 X 3-drum boilers generating 44,000 h.p.

Max Speed:  38 kts

Armament:  2 X 2 - 120/50 OTO 1931, 2 X 1 - 40/39 Vickers-Terni, 2 X 2 - 13.2/76, 2 X 3 - 533 Torpedo Tubes

Crew:  190

The Maestrales would go through one minor upgrade before the World War 2 where their outdated AA was replaced with 6 X 1 - 20/65 Breda 1939/1940.  All would serve during World War 2.  The  Libecco  was torpedoed by the  HMS Upholder  and sunk while being towed for repairs in November of 1941.  The  Scirocco  foundered during a storm in March of 1942.  The  Maestrale  was scuttled to prevent capture by the Germans after the Armistice in 1943.  The  Grecale  would survive the war and see extensive use by the Italian Navy until the early 1960s.

Various upgrades were conducted on the Maestrales during the war, however none of them created a ship that would allow the class to be distinct in War Thunder.  Although larger than the preceding classes War Thunder needs more than a couple knots of speed and a bigger hull, therefore I am going to focus on the  Grecale  in her immediate post war refit as this is the most distinctive variation available to the class.

During World War 2  Grecale   would gain an illumination gun, lose one torpedo triple launcher and gain a much more advanced AA suite.  In 1949 this would be further refined by removing less effective AA and the illumination gun as well as modifying the ship to a more modern standard.  Thus I am recommending  Grecale  in her 1949 configuration:  She was armed with  2 X 2 - 120/50 OTO 1931,  3 X 1 - 37/54 Breda 1939, 2 x 1 - 20/65 Breda 1939/1940, 1 X 3 - 533 Torpedo Tubes.  The other changes gave her a lattice mast, SPS-5 and SPS-6 radars, and a British-type bridge.  I believe with all of these changes the destroyer could act as a bridge between old and new Italian destroyers.  It would look unique, have modern radars for use within the game, and a unique AA setup compared to the World War 2 ships.

I think there should be at least 2 lines of destroyers, maybe one with explorers. Waiting for Leone suggestion btw)

There is already a Leone suggestion.

+1 For the Maestrale. :good:

you know italy has like 10 different types of destroyers with 2x2 120mm?

sauro, maestrale, turbine, oriani, soldati serie 1, sella, freccia, folgore, impetuoso (127mm)

what's so speacial about maestrale? we already have trubine freccia and soldati seire 1 in game with same armament and general characteristic.

support commandanti serie 2, navigatori, leone, mirabello, palestro, generali, curtatone all having unique armament.

Well, I'm not an expert in Italian destroyers. In media and literature, the Maestrale class seems to be one the most mentioned after Soldati class. I think 1949 Grecale would make a cool addition. With Radar and heavier AA. Japan has JDS Yugure a 1960s Fletcher class. The Soviets have Bezuprechny a 1950s Skoryy class (Pr.30-bis). This could fit a similar role, as a post WWII refit.

So, I just looked into it a bit. Some other good ones might be Impetuoso class and Impavido class destroyers (Comandanti class type hulls, but heavily modernized). Wikipedia says they're roughly like the US Gearing class and Charles F. Adams class. Although, I'd take Wikipedia with a grain of salt. The San Giorgio class destroyer (Modernized Capitani Romani class light cruiser) is another good option. Again, I'm not an expert, just some possible ideas for suggestions.

This proposal is for a post war modernization not applicable to all the classes mentioned.  I know there are a ton of 2X2 120mm destroyer classes that are all iterative.  I did the suggestions for most of them.  This can be worked with.

First, I made sure to include variants of each vessel that would make them as unique as possible.  Like this upgrade here.  Second, Italy has only about one destroyer per BR in the TT.  They need depth in lineups.  I would prefer unique ships for depth.

i know where you stand, i'm on that boat with you. imo italy needs all of the destroyer classes mentioned but we know that ain't happening, so by getting more ppl to support the more unique destroyer designs we might see them in game sooner than maestrale. i was just telling someone off the boat to support other stuff (too).

Why do you need commandanti serie 2? Margottini is already enough, it's at least 20% completed and launched. IMO there are enough of good and interesting completed Italian destroyers to add.

Adding paper ship because it has one more aft cannon?

I prefer San Giorgio with 6×127mm

Or/and they can just give Attilio Regolo "destroyer" class.

oh they are excellent with great historical back ground. but gaijin has gone as far as giving us the first serie, why not the second serie too? a couple were laid down just like first serie according to uncle wikipedia. unless there is proof that they weren't even laid down in that case they should not come to game. other wise think of a naval state of war thunder in 3 years with all the non built battleships of germans and soviets. a comandante serie 2 won't hurt (if they were laid down that is)

Maybe.  Still I agree with your point.

Both of these statements should happen.  San Giorgio added and Attilio Regolo redesignated would both be solid.
