Briefly: Implement various vehicles from the Boxer (8x8) multirole armored fighting vehicle family. Including a version fitted with a 30mm autocannon, an AA version fitted with a 35mm autocannon and modern rounds, and an artillery version fitted with a 155mm cannon.

I already suggested a variant of the "standard" market Boxer CRV offered by Rheinmetall which is used by the Australian army. The main difference to the CRV I am suggesting here is the addition of a double ATGM mount to the turret, using Spike missiles. Check it out here and discuss in which tech tree you would like to see it.

History, Development and Details:

Spoiler

The Boxer was developed through a joint venture between  Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall. Initially the program was co-developed by Germany, Netherlands and the UK. However in 2003 the united kingdom withdrew. In 2008 the vehicle passed trials with the German army which subsequently placed orders for it. Deliveries commenced in 2009 for Germany and in 2011 for the Netherlands. Since then australia, the UK and Lithuania have made orders to acquire the vehicle.

The Boxer vehicle family's user-specific mission modules can be quickly exchanged on field conditions depending on mission needs. The vehicle is full time all-wheel drive, the front four wheels provide steering. It has an automatic transmission with seven forward and three reverse gears. It can achieve a top speed of 100kph on road and its off-road speed is very good, some sources stating it is around 80kph. The suspension is double-wishbone coil springs independent all round. Tyres are 415/80 R685 and a central tyre inflation system and run-flat inserts are fitted.

With regards to protection, the specifics are classified and it is not clear. Some sources say the vehicle has at least all-round resistance to 14.5mm armour piercing shells. It also has very good performance against mines. Rheinmetall claims the vehicle has “excellent” protection, but no explicit values are given. Some sources suggest it has frontal protection against 30mm autocannon fire but there is no concrete evidence of this. The basic shell is made of high-hardness steel. Modular armour is sandwiched between the vehicle cell and the steel coat, with all three elements secured by fastening bolts. Currently the modular armour, which includes top attack protection, is a specialised ceramic mix. Protection can be further improved with add-on packs.

Chassis versions:

  • A0: Result of the development phase
  • A1: First series vehicles delivered. Gross weight of 36.5 tons 530kW (710hp) engine.
  • A2: Some minor electrical and mechanical changes. Gross weight of 36.5 tons 530kW (710hp) engine.
  • A3: British army will be the first to get this version as of 2020. It has a bigger engine 600kW (804hp) and is able to carry a weight of 38.5 tons. *
  • A2/A3: Australian army will receive a hybrid version able to carry the 38.5 tons of the A3 but with the less powerful 530kW (710hp) engine of the A2

Variants/build configurations (mission modules):

Spoiler

“...Build configurations we call them, we no longer use the word variants because some of those build configurations can be turned quite fast from one capability into another by the crew themselves” Stefan Lishka, managing director of ARTEC

  • Main build configurations that would not fit war thunder are: troop carrier without significant armament, field ambulance, combat engineering vehicle, command vehicle, battlefield maintenance vehicle.

  • BOXER CRV (Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle):
Spoiler

Armed with a Lance 30mm two manned turret (similar version is used in Puma IFV). The main weapon is the MK30-2 / ABM automatic cannon with elevation angles of +45 to -15, developed and built by Rheinmetall. The turret has a reserve of 200 rounds of two different ammunition types for the main weapon that can be instantly switched. The LANCE is equipped with a state-of-the-art, fully digital fire control system with stabilizers. Two electro-optical sights – each equipped with a high-resolution camera, a thermal imaging camera and a laser rangefinder – are also provided. One of the sights enables 360-degree visibility, irrespective of the movement of the turret. Of particular benefit is the fact that each system can be operated both by the commander and by the gunner. It has x16 smoke grande launchers. The vehicle can carry up to 8 dismount soldiers.

The vehicle also has some equipment that is not yet modelled in the game, but eventually could come. It has a laser warning system (this seems to have been tested in the dev server for 1.99 but not implemented, we will probably get it soon), ASLS (Acoustic Shooter Locating System) it uses microphones to detect the direction and distance from where shots are being fired at the vehicle, and also has the ability to mount an APS system against RPGs and ATGMs. Although the "standard" market version does not come with the APS, I believe the client would have to ask for it as an addition to the "package".

This variant would have very limited use in war thunder due to only being armed with a 30mm.

The Australian variant I mentioned at the beginning of the thread would be a better choice than this "standard" market version of the Boxer CRV as it has a double ATGM mount.

  • Boxer Skyranger
Spoiler

Another variant of the boxer has also been fitted with the Oerlikon Skyranger air defence system turret. It is armed with Rheinmetall's 35mm x 228 calibre Revolver Gun, with a dual ammunition feeding system that allows a choice of two types of shell. It would primarily fire the 35 mm Advanced Hit Efficiency And Destruction (AHEAD) ammunition. The secondary would be Frangible Armour-Piercing Discarding Sabot (FAPDS) ammunition. It can be deployed against air targets at short and very short range and against ground targets, with an effective range of about 4km. The Skyranger is equipped with state-of-the-art search and tracking sensors which provide seamless 360° air and ground surveillance and accurate fire control data. The gun has a rate of fire of 1,000 rounds a minute, with a total of 220 rounds being carried. Although this sounds like little amount of ammo the high efficiency of AHEAD ammo should compensate. The Skyranger unmanned turret has an electro-optical tracking sensor, which automatically tracks the targets, assigned either by the control center, external radars, or targets acquired by its own sensors. The passive sensor system consists of an infrared camera, TV camera, laser rangefinder. It is an all-weather system, which operates in day or night conditions. The Skyranger unmanned turret is operated by a commander and gunner, seated inside the vehicle hull. With the vehicle's driver seated in the front.

This vehicle would be an interesting addition between the Gepard and the FlaRakPz 1. The modern AHEAD ammo would make it a real threat against aerial targets. The system was also developed to intercept missiles and artillery/mortar shells. This would make it exceptionally effective against helicopters as it could easily destroy their ATGMs before they hit it (specially now that ATGMs can be locked on by SPAAs). Its mobility and limited but effective capabilities against ground targets (when flanking) would also make it a great vehicle.

  •  Boxer RCH 155mm
Spoiler

The Boxer Remotely Controlled Howitzer, or RCH 155 was developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann as a private venture. It is based on the technology of a combat-proven PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer, which is in service with Germany and some other countries. The RCH 155 provides the same performance of the PzH 2000, but is cheaper to build, has reduced crew and is significantly lighter. The Boxer RCH 155 is operated by a crew of just 2 men. This artillery system is highly automated. It has a fully automatic loading system, which loads both projectiles and charges. The Artillery module is completely unmanned. This artillery system is armed with a 155 mm/L52 howitzer with a rate of fire of 6-8 rounds per minute. It is also capable of multiple-round simultaneous-impact firing. A total of 30 rounds of ammunition are carried for the main gun. The gun is automatically laid using the fire control data. It has the ability of direct fire.

So, I am reading this suggestion but I would like to add more information to this suggestion. Most of this information is about the Skyranger (AA). as I see thats its afaik laking these nice details.

The engine used by the boxer in general is the 8V 199 TE20 with 530kw (721 hp) with the coupled Allison HD4070 auto transmission with 7 forwards gears and 3 reverse. (it was also possible to use the 8V119 TE20 with 600kw (805 hp) most common in the A3 models of the boxer) the max speed is above 100km/h (for all boxers).

The gun is a 35x228mm Revolver gun (most common knows as the 35x228 KDG-Revolver cannon with its main shell being the AHEAD round) (A improvement over the older KD Line like the KDA on the gepard)

The boxer itself has a length of 7.9 meters, with a width of 2.99 meters height wise its around 3,5 meters, (height is based on the Boxer IFV-RCT30) it has a 8-wheel drive system

So to sum up this information here is a simple table for it.

Weight

38.5 ton

Length

7,9 Meters

Width

2.99 Meters

Height

3.5 Meters

Engine made by (MTU)

8V 199 TE20 (with 721 or 805 hp)

Transmission made by

On another note,

I would say this boxer Skyranger would fit after the flakrakpanzer, or behind another AA, like a 1A2 for instance, its BR would be around 9,7-10,0 aswell seeing it does fire a powerfull and deadly ABM/AHEAD round.

Seeing its main ups and downs it wont be the best AA that germany could have (No, neither are the wiesels/ozelots) its better than the flakrakpanzer in my eyes, but I would say its just under or on-par with the gepard 1A models (not the one we currently have in-game) as those do have that slight extra range, and with a way to also defend against tanks on its own.

However, for the rest your suggestion does look nice and has good sources including the manufacters (which is always a bonus offcourse).

I hope I helped you a bit more with this information :)

Enjoy

I personally see this as a vehicle for a specific and differnet role than the FlaRakPz 1, not better or worse. The FlaRakPz 1 would be able to engage helis at long ranges (8km) and supersonic jets at high altitudes. The Boxer Skyranger would provide cover on the close range. Also serving a new role, a sort of area denial for ATGMs and Air to Ground missiles (part of its IRL role) which it can very effectively achive thanks to the AHEAD ammo and even more so now that we can recently lock onto missiles. Which is VERY needed at the moment against top tier Helis, even more so in SB. Also thanks to its mobility and dual ammo feed it could present a limited but effective threat to other ground vehicles.

I think the Geopard with stingers you recently suggested would also be a very nice addition as it has some compromises to get the versatility from having both guns and missiles. Not the longer range from the FlaRakPz 1 but also not the close range effectivness provided by the AHEAD ammo, but still having versatility from the two weapon systems that other vehicles like the ADATS and the Tunguska.

We could have this variation.

Boxer with 40mm CT and Javelin ATGM launcher turret made by Lockheed Martin.

i like it to see.

but not for germany at this time - we will become a boxer with turret for the infantry - but it is not yet decided which turret - the infantry favorite is the lance turret - but the puma turret is in competition from the lobbyists.

( by the way we german had on all our TPZ fuchs from the infantry  - a mount for the milan on them, was called ( Panzerabwehrsatz ) anti-tank kit ! that would be something nice )

Ok,

So on KMWs page in the section for the Boxer IFV-RCT30 in one of the descriptions you can find a text which mentions the availability of SPIKE LR ATGMs (see picture bellow). Although Boxer variants in german service dont have the ATGM launchers (at leats to my knowledge), the Boxer IFV-RCT30 with SPIKE LR is a product offered by KMW/Rheimetall. This means said veichle is eligible for the German tech tree and does not have to come as the BOXER CRV for LAND 400 Phase 2 (Australian army), which could be a little polemic.

Instead it could be added as the Boxer IFV-RCT30 with SPIKE LR offered to the international market, just like the M48 Super. Developed privetly, offered for the international market and never fielded by the german army, yet it is in the German tach tree.

So, Rheinmetall has recently presented a new version of the Skyranger, with a 30mm gun and missiles instead. Assuming this also gets mounted on a Boxer, that could provide Germany with some missile AA that also has good short range capabilities, unlike the Rolands

I really want the Skyranger anywhere, I don't care where I'd grind an entire tree to get it, I just really like it. It'd be real nice even against ground with APDS given the right BR, considering the insane firerate. Also the 220/252 rounds carried are ready to fire, so there's a possibility more are carried in the hull for resupply without external vehicles.
