The AMV35 was a joint effort between BAE Systems Hägglunds and Patria for the LAND 400 program; combining their popular AFVs into one interesting package. It might not have been selected by the Australian army, but in War Thunder it could get a second chance to prove itself.

History:

Spoiler

LAND 400 is a currently ongoing 4-phase program with the goal of giving Australia a fleet of modern light AFVs. Phase 2 was aimed at replacing the ASLAV, and in 2016 it was revealed to the public that BAE Systems Hägglunds and Patria were to compete together in said phase with their newly developed AMV35. The vehicle was made specifically for the program, and combined the turret of a CV90 MK III with the chassis of a Patria AMV 8x8 to best meet the requirements. In July the very same year it was selected together with Rheinmetall's Boxer CRV as the two best contenders. On the 14th of March 2018 Rheinmetall's vehicle was announced as the winner, thus ending the rather short story of the AMV35.

Firepower:

The AMV35 uses the CV90 MK III's turret. The main armament is a fully stabilized 35mm Bushmaster III 35/50 autocannon. It's a dual feed gun with a maximum rate of fire of 200rpm. The weapon can fire any NATO 35x228mm ammunition. With more modern APFSDS like the PMD060 it can pen a 61mm armor plate sloped at 60° from 1.5km. It has 70 rounds ready to fire (35 per feed). A 7.62mm FN MAG machine gun is located on the left side of the turret. Elevation angles are -8° to +37° for the 35mm and -10° to +50° for the MG.

The gunner has a daytime sight with 1x-8x zoom and a 3rd gen thermal imager. The commander has his own sights in a rotating cupola with 1x-6x zoom for the daytime sight, as well as 3rd gen thermals. The vehicle also comes with a laser rangefinder and hunter-killer capabilities.

Mobility:

A 480hp Scania DI12 engine gives the 32t heavy AMV35 a power to weight ratio of 15hp/ton, and it's ZF Ecomat 7HP902 transmission allows it to reach a top speed of 100kph forwards. The vehicle has all-wheel drive with steering on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th axle. It also features adjustable hydropneumatic suspension. It can handle 60% gradients, 30% side slopes, 0.7m tall obstacles, and 2m wide trenches.

Protection:

The hull is rated as being higher than STANAG 4569 level 4 but worse than level 5 in both ballistic and mine protection. Level 4 means protection against 14.5mm AP from 200m distance at any angle, and 10kg of TNT placed anywhere under the vehicle. The turret is rated for level 5, protecting it against 25mm APFSDS in a 60° frontal arc within 500m on top of the already mentioned 14.5mm resistance.

The turret comes equipped with smoke launchers and laser warning receivers, which are part of its active protection system.

The vehicle in War Thunder:

What sets the AMV35 apart from the armored cars currently in game is its armament. Whereas they are designed to combat either tanks or aircraft, the flexible E35 turret of the AMV35 allows it to effectively engage vehicles of any type that gets within range. This combined with good mobility, excellent thermals, and scouting capabilities would make it a truly versatile asset in War Thunder.
