Steam war thunder safety

So, I recently downloaded War Thunder from Gaijin, and the next day I find out that my computer had 54 unknown people trying to enter my computer’s VPN. I really want to continue playing, but I’m afraid of having to go through that again. My question is, is War Thunder safe from viruses and malware when being bought through steam?

To cut right to the point, as someone who plays via Steam, yes, it is perfectly safe whether you picked it up and play it via Steam or the direct launcher outside of it. I suggest scanning your computer thoroughly for anything, as it sounds like a preexisting issue. War Thunder does not contain anything that will harm your computer.

War Thunder in general and on any platform it is available on is free from any viruses and malware.... so most likely something on your computer or something else.

perfectly normal i'd say... the launcher basically is a torrent client downloading / seeding the game files from / to other players.

i guess those are just the p2p connections the launcher is trying to establish (or rather other players trying to establish a p2p

connection to your launcher).

answers to your upcoming question (^o^):

1. no, War Thunder is not getting updated via Steam (so basically you have to use the launcher... at least every now and then)

2. no, you cannot (completely) disable the torrent / p2p part of the launcher (you can limit some settings though (launcher settings))

I apologize, I forgot to add something. When I took my computer to the specialist, he said that the virus did originate from war thunder, and my computer was completely fine before I downloaded it. So I do thank all of you for your help, but I’m still concerned

Hate to say it, but the specialist is incorrect, as War Thunder doesn't contain any. It wouldn't be a very good business model to contain malware or viruses in a game and/or launcher.

My guess is either it was a false positive, or just a very unqualified specialist.

Yes, I know I brought this up a few days ago, but I got it all wrong on what was going on. So, as of the last time I asked if War Thunder was safe to download from steam. I got a lot of replies that were very helpful (and I thank you all), but the people that I said were trying to access my VPN were actually trying to access  my computers IP address. Which if I am correct,(please correct me if I am wrong) when hacked into, can cause critical damage to my computer, and could lead to stolen information. So now that I know what it actually was, I would like to know, is there really any way to prevent this from happening?

Merged with your existing post. I know it is a new topic with updated info, however your original topic is still open and is still viable to be used to discuss this. o7

Technically, the IP they should see is the public IP of the VPN provider server

The WT client sent p2p request over the internet through the VPN

From the internet, these request are seen emanating from the VPN server (so not your IP)

Several computers will answer the request and send files to the VPN server. The server will then redirected these files through the tunnel so you receive them

You receive warning about unknown connections because their are but it is normal with p2p

Ok. When the files were scanned, the results were that they were horribly corrupted, is it possible that the corruption was caused something other than war thunder? I have been downloading things like Optifine for Minecraft, but that’s the only thing that I think could have resulted in this.
