A few words about how to use protection analysis tool.

Greetings everyone.

Recently I had an argument about how to accurately determine the value for "effective thickness" of sloped armour?

My stance is that when looking at slopes in the garage from the default view height their obliquity is decreased making you underestimate the effective thickness in combat at ranges longer than 100-200m.

If you examine the target as shown in the first picture you might think that SU-152 can pen Panther's UFP up to 1-1,5km range, but since WT does not account for shell's descent angle at long ranges, this is not what we see in game.

actually, its UFP is completely immune at that distance as can be seen when using the protection tool correctly.

Here is a video of me shooting at Panther A with SU-152 in the test drive from that distance, out of 5 hits on target none penetrated (sorry for awful graphics quality, my PC is very old):

There you go, now you know why sometimes what you see in protection analysis diverges with what you see in the game.

Cheers.
