M4 Tipo VA Sperimentale

General Info:

After World War 2 Italy found itself with many versions of the Sherman tank, the S.M.E. tried to categorize every version of the tank that could be found on Italian soil, what we will look at today is the M4 Tipo VA Sperimentale.

This version is a mix of the M4A4 chassis, the turret of a M4A4 with a 75mm gun or 105mm that got replaced with a 76mm M1 cannon.

The gun was fitted by the Arsenale di Piacenza very late in the Sherman life cycle in the Italian Army, when this protoype was created, italy already had in line the M46 Patton.

This version would be similar to the M4A1 (76) W that can be found in the American Tech, except that it lacks the added armor to the turret.

This version has a striking similarity to the English Sherman Firefly, but the difference can be spotted due to the different gun.

 

Stats:

weight: Circa 32 tons

Circa 400 hp

top speed: almost 40 km/h

 

Armament:

1 76mm M1 main gun

1 coaxial 7.62 L3A1 machine gun

1 12.7 M2 HB machine gun on top of the turret

 

Why this vehicle should be in War Thunder:

This vehicle should be in game seeing the need of the Italian Tech Tree to fill up the big gap that can be found between rank 3 and 4, this vehicle would fit the BR 4.7/5.0, I think to avoid to angrying people that doesn't want to play American tanks, this Sherman could be folded with the M4 TipoVC.

This vehicle would be also part of a effort by my part to propose other vehicles to fill out these Brs.

Yes, finally this one has been suggested 

I guess 4.7 would be the best since it has much worse turret armor compared to Americans.

We really need more postwar modified stuff, like this one, M7 105/34, M2A1 M20, ACM52 and etc.

The M4A4 was not serially produced with a 105 mm gun, this turret seen here is an early 75 mm turret. Almost reminds me of the M4A1 (76) 'Quick Fix' that the US created, which was basically the same idea.

Unique in regards to other shermans this is unique, the only other country that had this type of sherman would be Brazil.

+1 from me for sure, I love the American 76mm cannon Shermans due to their excellent APHE and having a variant with that gun in the Italian tree would be awesome.

Well, this isn’t a copy paste, there is no Sherman like this in game.

the same goes for the TIPO VC, there is no Sherman like that in game, so no Sherman in the Italian tech tree is a copy paste except for the M4A4

Well they arent 100% copy paste but still changes are minimum

Well, it really depends on what you mean by minimal:

M4 Hybrid, M4 Tipo IC: these two tanks are the mix of a lighter less armored chassis with a heavier but more armored chassis, this makes the playing of the tank differently from both the full welded and the full cast chassis M4.

 

M4 Tipo VC: compared to the English Sherman VC this one has less armor because it lacks the track armor on the sides but it has a massively more powerful round, so this tank become more of a glass cannon compared to the English one.

 

M4 Tipo VA Sperimentale: compared to the American M4A1 76(W) again you have the same gun but on an inferior chassis and turret, becoming again sort of a glass cannon compared to the American one.

 

these 4 tanks have a different game play style to their counterparts on the other nations

Ok VC will be played more like sniper, but others I dont think there is much of playing style difference

The VA too, because I think that it would get a BR of circa 4.3/4.7 due to its lack of armor, so you have the VA at 4.3/4.7 but with a round 5.0, so it could be used as a sniper too

+1, I could see this being 4.7 or 5.0. Though I would prefer a proper M4A2 (76) style turret that I believe Italy fielded in limited numbers. But this could still be an interesting tank to pad out the line given how atypical it is.

Yes, Italy used both the M4A1 76W and the M4A2 76W but I wanted to avoid suggestion a complete copy paste.

Yes but as a tree vehicle, to maybe replace one of the copy+paste vehicles? If not tree then a premium, but it's a unique modification. +1 from me.

I know Italy mixed and matched a lot of tanks.  Did they never put a 76mm turret on the M4 or M4A4?

You know what, the more I think about it the better this tank gets.  I mean it wouldn't be true copy paste.  It would be visually distinctive.  I just really wish it had a .50 cal.  Does it still have the mount for the .50cal?  Does that mean we can get it??  Regardless I added it to this:

Thank you @Conte_Baracca, much appreciated, unfortunately this is the only photo I could find about this and the vehicle is very very obscure and there is close to 0 description about it.

so I don’t really know if it had a .50 cal on the top
