T-72UA1

Background:

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine received some T-72. Ukraine provided varies upgrade projects for the T-72 and T-72UA1 was one of them. This upgrade version aimed to enhance the protection and mobility of the T-72. The T-72UA1 was first seen during 2011 which developed by Kharkov tank repair plant in cooperation with the Engineering Design Bureau in Ukraine and the repair and refinement of tanks are carried out at the Kiev Mechanical Repair Plant. This tank was mainly focus in exporting as Ukrainian Army did not use T-72 in the past and they just put in storage. The base model of the T-72UA1 is T-72B1 (T-72B1 is of a version of T-72B that do not have the ability to shoot ATGM) as Ethiopia ordered 200 T-72B1 from Ukraine and some of the were upgraded to T-72UA1 version in 2011 and the first tank was delivered to Ethiopia in 2012. These upgraded tanks also called T-72E1. At current stage, Ethiopia is the only customer of this tank. However, due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, some sources reported that some T-72UA1 are used by the Ukrainian Army and they got 80 T-72 from Hungarian Army stocks and upgraded to T-72UA1 standard. The T-72UA1 has the similar capability with the upgrade version of the T-72 from Russia that offered to the export customers but in a cheaper price. There are a few way to keep the price low such as the better ERA - Nozh only cover the turret but the hull is covered by the older version of the ERA - Kontakt-1 and there is no great improvement in firepower in order to keep the price low.

I would definitely like to see this beautiful tank, so it gets my +1.

Putting it in the Russian tree is a very bad idea, however, and it belongs in an independent Eastern European tree of some sort.  Anyone who disagrees with me should think back and remember why we aren't allowed to have national flags for free anymore.

Ukraine was part of the USSR and their vehicles are quite similar with each other. However, I agree that it is more suitable to put Ukraine into Eastern European tect tree because I don't think Ukrainian will not be happy to see they are put into Russia tect tree just like becoming part of Russia.

Well that is the main issue due to the current Geopolitical situration that Russia and Ukraine find themselves in. If it was pre 2014 i would say USSR tech tree hands down ( and my contreversial opinion is still that should be the case ) However i do think we have to wait for some time and see if things change. But i think these vehicles do indeed have a place in the game. So +1 :)
