The PGZ-09, initially known as PGZ-07, or Type 09 / Type 07 in the West, is a Chinese anti-aircraft vehicle. Despite the title, it does differ in some ways from the German Gepard, with it having a different chassis, but a similar turret. The guns, known as PG99 in Chinese service, are the Oerlikon GDF cannons, which China adopted at the end of the 20th century. The PGZ-09 is the successor to the PGZ-95, fulfilling the anti-aircraft role at closer ranges. In game, the PGZ-09 would add to the Chinese SPAAG line. I would personally like to see it because while I do adore my WZ305, I often find I need to get more rounds out in a pinch, and the slower fire rate of the WZ305 can not always keep up, which is where the PGZ-09 could succeed with flying colors, much like its German and Japanese counterparts!

Being an anti-aircraft vehicle, firepower is the vehicle's number one advantage. Armed with two 35mm PG99, or Oerlikon GDF cannons as seen above, the PGZ-09 has a high volume of fire with large shells capable of downing nearly anything in the sky within 3 km. This is helped with the addition of modern ammunition. Being a modern anti-aircraft vehicle, the PGZ-09 fires a number of different shells, including HEI, HEI-T, SAPHEI, SAPHEI-T, Air Burst, and Target Practice Ammunition.

Along with its guns, the vehicle has a strong electronic suite backing it up, including thermal target tracking, L-band Doppler search radar with a range of up to 20 km, and laser rangefinding. It also has an automatic fire detection and suppression system, friend or foe identification ability, air conditioning, NBC protection, and a data-link and external communication system for communication with other vehicles in its battalion.

The mobility of the vehicle is aided by an 800 hp 8V150 diesel engine, propelling it up to 55 km/h, and being tracked, can cross terrain better than wheeled vehicles.

Armor is minimal, as the chassis the PGZ-09 is based on is also used for the PLZ-05 self-propelled artillery piece, neither of which require the use of heavy armor.

YES! China needs is radar SPAAGs desperately.

Personally I would like to see this being added after WZ305, and then after this the PGZ95 with 4*QW-2 AAMs with modification to upgrade to FN-6 missiles.

+1 It's cool and China needs more SPAA

(Also why would you put this as a Potential Premium?, Gaijin would never add Premium SPAA's)

Just to give people the option, I personally wouldn't like to see it as a premium myself.

I would like to see it, maybe put it to the BR of 8.3 or 8.7? And our WZ305 can retire at top tier :lol2:

Actually, there is a premium SPAA in the game, the ZUT-37. But yes we definetly want the PGZ09 as a tech tree vehicle!!!!

its only a premium because its a weird mix between an SPAA and the T-60 in the Russian Tech Tree also its painfully bad as an SPAA so it does not count as one in my books ;)

This tank kinda has the same modifications as the Gepard, but it has Thermals for the PGZ09 for a radared SPAAG at a 8.0 BR which is Fantastic! But I do know that it's not fair.

Its ammo capacity is apparently going to be quite limited so it's pretty balanced I think.

Yeah I know but, the PGZ09 has thermals which is fantastic at a 8.0 BR. But it might not be fair for other players since the regular Gepard doesn’t have thermals.
