Depends, all nations have some good planes, I, myself, went for Germany, I seriously enjoyed it, especially bombers and Fw 190's. For USSR, I like Yak series, they have hard-hitting guns and have good enough climb rate and maneuverability. USA is also good, with lovely 20mm and 12.7mm guns, even from 1st rank. Also attackers are pretty good. Phantoms are really enjoyable and have great AAM loadout. For a beginner, I suggest USA or Germany.
Suggestion Moderator Thatz 637 Report post Posted March 19, 2021 Not sure if this fits in the wiki section, I think it would fit better in: https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/forum/161-the-academy-players-helping-players/ But regardless I think its pretty subjective as each nation has their ups and downs, it also matters about your play style since certain nations excel in allowing that player get the most out of their preferred play style. If you are just starting out as @Vonarian_IRstated USA and Germany are really good for nations to start off with that offer a large variety of vehicles that encompasses a lot of different play styles. (small planes with decent turn rates for dog fighting, boom and zoom planes, large bombers etc.) That's not to say that other nations can't offer you vehicles that match your preferred play style just Germany and USA are good for beginners to start with.
SLMFKRZ 1,231 Report post Posted March 20, 2021 for top tier the best/most competitive nations are ussr (MiG-21Bis) and usa (F-4E Phantom II), japan is also good as it gets the F-4EJ Phantom II. the other nations have gimmick planes for top-tier, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun/worth grinding for the J-35 or the Mirage. all other tiers it just depends on what ur looking for
leCoucouDodu 114 Report post Posted March 21, 2021 You will be able to find yourself happy with every nation if you know how to use you planes. I recommend you to go for the nation you want aircrafts the most (look at the TT for that) and then you have to learn how to face ennemy planes. When you have encountered all nations, you can see wich one you want to play the most.

Normally, you would not think this way in response to the OP question. But, by own experience, I think it is true. US planes are relatively easy to fly and can be efficiently used for many roles. That can't be said for most other nations. Russia comes to mind, hardly any fighter is good above 4,000 meter, for example.
