Steam not using regular launcher's updates

I recently downloaded a 12GB update. I did not do this through Steam; the launcher started updating automatically when I booted the computer up. However, for some weird reason Steam didn't acknowledge the update and is trying to download the update again. Despite Steam saying that War Thunder is updating, I am still able to play by using the Start Menu.

I prefer to launch using Steam because it allows me to check time, invite friends, and earn achievements. Steam has never issues acknowledging the updates downloaded that aren't done directly through Steam, and I would like to know if there is any way I could fix this without downloading again.

first start the launcher, go into the launcher settings (wrench icon in the top right corner) and disable

'auto updates' so the Gaijin updater isn't getting started on the startup of your system.

you should not use the launcher when running the game from Steam to avoid those update mixups

(at least on a patch day - so almost every day atm 8D)

whether or not you can stop the update process now that it has already begun i don't know - maybe

deleting the content in the ..\steamapps\downloading\236390\  folder (plus the state_236390* patch

files will do the trick - like forcing Steam to check the game folder again (before you try this you

should stop / pause + cancel the update process in Steam and then shut Steam down) though this

may just reset the download and it may start from scratch next time you start Steam =/ i never did

this myself. disclaimer: i'm not taking any responsibilities for anything including a full new download

of the whole client ^^

or you could copy / move the whole game folder to a different location, uninstall the game on Steam,

copy the game folder back into the Steam games folder and install the game on Steam again. now

when the install process begins Steam should 'see' the already existing game files, may only check /

analyze them and once done should be ready to go (given the game versions are the same now).

yet again i don't know if this is working and i'm not taking any responsibilities ^^

medal medal medal
