Summary

The CV90105 XC-8 is a vehicle developed by Belgium's Cockerill Maintenance & Ingénierie, or CMI. and BAE Systems Hägglunds. It combines the CV90 chassis, with Cockerill's XC-8 105HP turret, housing a 105mm gun. It remains relatively light, at 25 tonnes, enabling a top speed of 70 km/h. Add on armor can be fitted to the hull, with the add on passive armor rumored to protect against 30mm APDS frontally. Naturally though, one should not expect to bounce the 105, 120, or 125mm rounds commonly seen at the higher tiers of the game. In many ways, it is similar to the CV90105 TML in game, but could provide an excellent opportunity to give the Swedish something equivalent in the research tree. Before we go into the features of this new turret, a brief history of the CV 90 IFV for those who may be interested!

 

History of the CV90

The CV90 was born out of a desire to have a vehicle that was capable of high mobility, high survivability, and also having decent protection. A group was formed of representatives from the Swedish Army and a couple different companies to settle down and find a vehicle to fit the bill. This was a task the Swedish engineers were keen to tackle, as creating such a vehicle would mean it could be used for anti-aircraft and anti-tank roles, something the Swedish Army had also been wanting. To do this, the vehicle would have to be easily modifiable to suit different needs. In 1985, the Strf 90 group finalized the design for this new vehicle, with the prototypes for the CV9040 and CV9025 ordered the following year, armed with a 40mm cannon and 25mm cannon respectively.

Hägglunds built the hull while Bofors was responsible for the turret. HB Utveckling AB was responsible for development. The CV9025 was dropped, and development of the CV9040 continued. A particularly difficult area was improving reliability, something that had been relatively easy on the Ikv 91. The first four prototypes used the clutch and brake steering system, while a fifth one used the X-300 transmission found in the Warrior IFV. This latter prototype, due to it being 35 mm higher than the clutch-brake version, had a raised engine hatch. But this aside, the first four prototypes all had the same turret fitted, that of one with the famous 40 mm Bofors cannon.

Deliveries of the vehicle would finally begin in 1994, and since then, a large number of variants have been created from the CV90, and not just in Sweden either, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Estonia also use the CV90. One of the CV90's variants is the CV90105 XC-8, a version fitted with a 105mm gun turret from Cockerill of Belgium. There was a previous attempt similar to this, with GIAT of France fitting the CV90 with its TML 105 turret, however both vehicles are similar in that they have thus far not found any export customers. Regardless, the CV90 is unlikely to go away anytime soon, and will continue to be modified for each nation that uses it, and their individual needs.

Cockerill XC-8 105HP turret

 

I'll primarily go over the turret since the chassis itself is the same as the basic CV90.

 

The XC-8 turret is built by Cockerill, and has been fitted to a number of vehicles, most notably the Polish Rosomak APC and the South Korean K-21 IFV. This turret features gun stabilization, day/night sights, and a bustle mounted autoloader, reducing the crew in the turret to two. The turret can house a 105mm or 120mm low recoil gun, and is adaptable to many different platforms. Both guns fire all standard NATO 105mm and 120mm smoothbore ammunition. The turret can be fitted with smoke grenade launchers at the rear on both sides of the turret. It comes standard with NBC protection, and also has an option for soft-kill APS. One type of ammunition fired by the main gun is the the Falarick 105 GLATGM, which has laser beam guidance, a range of up to 5 kilometers, and a tandem warhead that penetrates 550mm of armor behind ERA.

Why did Belgium decided to use a rifled gun ? Just doesnt make sense, even if it means that it can use HESH.

Because it's adapted to standard NATO 105mm ammunition, which derives from the Royal Ordnance L7, a rifled gun. AFAIK no 105mm smoothbore has entered service (though Rheinmetal made a prototype), so it makes no sense to create a new type of ammunition with new production and supply lines just for a light tank.

Nah, but if it was german they speaking it do be risking being in German TT lol

 

The french don't usually get as many content just like Sweden. They almost lose  the SK-105 to the German tree despite using french gun and ammunition.

While I can't find any additional info on the M1060CV shell, the extra velocity compared to M1060A3 seems to give it a bit of a penetration boost. It may likely end up being somewhat better than M900 in performance. Add an autoloader into the equation, and Sweden seems candidate for yet another fast firing anti-tank gun. This looks awesome! +1
