The Tupolev Tu-1 was a Soviet aircraft designed to turn the successful Tu-2 bomber into a night fighter design after Soviet officials were impressed by the performance of the British de Havilland Mosquito.  The type was designed to mount a heavy armament to destroy enemy bombers and other night fighters while still retaining a significant bombload so that it could also be used as a high-speed strike aircraft.  Engineers installed a weapon mount into the underside of the nose capable of fitting two heavy cannons, usually a pair of NS-45 cannons with 50 rounds per gun.  The 20mm wing root-mounted ShVAK cannons of the Tu-2 were replaced with harder-hitting 23mm mounts, and the engines were replaced with prototype Mikulin AM-43V high-performance inline engines to increase speed and power.  Two single 12.7mm machine guns provided defense against interception.  The Tu-1 retained a bomb bay and ordinance hardpoints and could carry 1,000 kg of bombs internally and 2,000 kg externally for strike missions.  Production models were intended to be fitted with the Gneiss-2 radar system, based on the German FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 radar set, and later the improved Gneiss-5 radar, and the prototypes were tested with and without radar sets installed (it's worth noting that existing photographs of the Tu-1 do not show a radar system installed but the aircraft was tested with one).

The Tu-1 reached the testing stage with two prototypes built by 1947, but by that stage it was clear that the future lay with jet aircraft rather than prop designs.  Since the prop-driven Tu-1 was rapidly becoming obsolete and would soon not be able to fill the roles of high-speed interceptor and strike aircraft, the program was cancelled and interest shifted to newer jet-powered designs.

Although it never got its chance to shine in real life, the Tu-1 would be a fantastic addition to War Thunder!

the Tu-2 in the game are already amazing CAS planes at their Br. This seems to be a more capable TIS MA which itself is a really good plane as well. So, yes, this gets all my support.

+1

Considering the lack of other options for Soviet heavy fighters and the fact that this at least made it to the testing stage, I'll support this.  Flying the Tu-2s as support fighters is surprisingly fun, so doing that in a more heavily armed version should be a blast.

The Tu 1 is on the dev server. Hidden in the tech tree, but shown on the as prem plane in the hanger.

Had a look at the Tu-1 on the dev server. Seems like it won't get any bombs (then again, that might be the reason why it wasn't really on the server...)

also, can gaijin unnerf the 45mm cannons? right now they jam after 4-5 shots...

I really hope that it will get its historical payload, because knowing that it could carry it and not having it in game would spoil it a bit.
