UPDATED (after half of a year) guide for Type 93 and SAM similar systems.

(Any changes from the future update "DRONE AGE" will be noted here as fast as possible after release)

A few words from the author. This guide is intended for players without any experience or skill in using the IR SAM. The guide right now is not in the final stage. With the update "Drone Age" I will be adding more videos and detailed descriptions, to make it much easier for you to learn from the chosen examples. I decided not to make the text walls about how you should and how you should not use your weapon system, instead, I prefer to show you how the missile behaves in certain situations: distance, angle, and speed of the target. In this way, it should be much more simple to learn the behavior of your missile in flight, in my opinion, that's probably the most important knowledge you might need. o7

Right now in the guide you may find:

CHAPTER I: HEAD-ON

CHAPTER II: REAR

CHAPTER III: SIDE

CHAPTER IV: PURE LUCK

Very basic knowledge about Type93 IRST (Infrared search and track) and Type91 missiles

The tracking system consists of a grid-shaped IFF antenna, a visible light TV camera, a laser receiver, an infrared sensor, and a laser oscillator. The same systems are installed inside the missiles. In addition to missiles, the launcher also has a data link antenna for receiving target information from the divisional air defense information processing system (DADS). In short, those missiles do have Data link. (right now not implemented in the game, just like most of the futures of this system)

- ECCM is installed, and due to guidance by a TV camera and infrared sensor, the missile is immune to any amount of enemy flares.

1* Tip: Missile details and understanding of its stats

- Fuze delay, Fuze sensitivity, Trigger radius

In proper scenario and in chronological order looks like this: When the missile gets close enough to the target, reaching a distance of 1m to target, the detonation timer will be set active, after 1.56 milliseconds the missile will detonate its 648g TNT equ warhead. The same time "1.56 milliseconds" the missile will be penetrating the target's hull, after contact fuze (with 10mm sensitivity) set an active detonation timer, this will only happen when somehow the proximity fuse will not detect the target.

- Maximum overload

Missiles in Warthunder do have turn limits described as Maximum overload in G, however, it does not describe the missile turn rate ability but the ability to withstand certain G numbers. In the nutshell, the missile Maximum overload indicates after what G (it faces while turning) the missile will get confused and stupid. Higher the max overload it has, the easier it will be for it to withstand high G and be able to track and intercept the target.

Most SAM in Warthunder with IR tracking have around a maximum overload of 10 up to 13 G. In practice, missile tracking a target that flies head-on with her will be much harder than tracking a target flying away from the missile, especially when the target is moving fast. Calculating the expected flight path of the target moving towards the missile, the system must face the extreme closing speed of two objects. Any correction in guidance after a target's heavy turn will require high G turns made by the missile to fly towards a new intercept point in space. The closer the missile gets to the target the turns will get much more tight =  G force faced by the missile will get higher and higher. Intercepting the target from the sides and rear is much easier.

- Aspect, Lock range, The True Lock Range of missile

The Max Lock range from the REAR is 6km+ against jet-engines, and the true all-aspect lock range against helicopters and non-jet planes and future drones is around 3 to 4 km. All-aspect lock against planes with high speed might be higher than 5km especially when they use an afterburner.

2* Tip: The most comfortable distance from the target:

- Distance less than 1,5km might be not enough for the missile to launch properly and gain enough speed needed, for being capable of tight turns and precise target interception.

This is the main part of the Guide where you will find videos made by me and my helpful friend, examples of how to use and how to not use your missile.

BEWARE THE RANGE FINDER IS SET TO THE SAME BUTTON AS ARMING OF MISSILE BECAUSE THE DURATION OF IT IS SIMILAR TO THE TIME NEEDED TO MAKE THE MISSILE READY BEFORE LAUNCH, DISTANCE SHOWN BY THE RANGE FINDER IS INACCURATE AND IS NOT IMPORTANT

In the nutshell about Helicopters:
If a helicopter sees you but is outside your range of LOCK = you are dead
If a helicopter sees you but is inside your range of LOCK  = you are both dead
If a helicopter does not see you but is inside your range of LOCK = he is dead
That's everything about helicopters, your lock range is something around 3km +/- from target, if it slows down the engine to make it colder, the range is less than 3km. have fun.

It's a Bird...? It's a Plane...? It's a miss, or maybe not?

CHAPTER I - - - SITUATION: HEAD-ON (SORTED BY RANGE: SHORT UP TO LONG)

The km number in titles designates the launch range, not the range when the plane got hit by a missile. The number of kill/hit/miss was chosen randomly from the very big pull of videos. (not all are right now ready)

CHAPTER II - - - SITUATION: REAR (SORTED BY RANGE: SHORT UP TO LONG)

CHAPTER III - - - SITUATION: SIDE (SORTED BY RANGE: SHORT UP TO LONG)

CHAPTER IV - - - SITUATION: PURE LUCK
