relliK 3,228 Report post Posted September 7, 2021 i think the problem is (or was) that you were using the Gaijin launcher instead of just letting Steam update the game. when a patch gets uploaded to the update servers i'm pretty sure it will be available on the gaijin servers first and way before it gets distributed to all the different Steam update servers... you start the Gaijin launcher - it sees an update and downloads it - you open / start the game from Steam and it sees the game files are not matching their files so it 'updates / repairs' the game files (most likely back to the older game version) - you start the Gaijin launcher and guess what... it sees the older game version and starts updating again... my advise is to NOT use the gaijin launcher (on patch days). yes, it may take longer until Steam got the update and you may not be able to play the game until it has been updated (and the update has been distributed to all update servers) on Steam but imho that's still better than having updates running all day (wasting bandwidth). ...or you don't use Steam ^^ ...or you hope that Gaijin can somehow get this fixed in the future 8D
DerLachendeMann 506 Report post Posted September 7, 2021 I had that problem last update, so this time I updated the game via the launcher, set steam to only update the game when I play it. Currently the game on Steam is waiting for an update while I can play via directly going through the launcher, maybe not the most elegant solution but it lets me play War Thunder until Steam gets sorted out. And so it was. Took a quick snick peak and exit. When finally I sit down to get in game via Steam (as always), behold a massive download! Well, one night lost, see if I remember to not do the same mistake next big update...

I previously used to start the game through Steam, but that got annoying because Steam sometimes logs me out, and then the time it takes for Steam to load. I decided it was faster if I just used the Gaijin launcher, or better yet, the file named "eac_wt_mlauncher.exe" which started the game almost immediately. However the "eac_wt_mlauncher.exe" didn't update the game, so I periodically opened the Gaijin launcher to update the game. Today, at around 13, I was started and played the game without issues. Then I opened Steam to play Doom Eternal and Serious Sam 4. Steam remained opened until around 18 and it then started downloading 16 GB for War Thunder. I started the Gaijin launcher and it also started to download 16 GB. When I started "eac_wt_mlauncher.exe", it said something like "error, cannot find aces.exe" and I couldn't start the game. Now I have to download the 16 GB I guess. However, I don't get why Steam, or whatever it was, deleted half of my game files. When I started Steam yesterday or the day before, or every day before today, nothing happened. The only difference was that Steam was open for a few hours today, whereas all the previous days I just opened it to see if there were any updates to any of my games and then closed it.
