British BRs Crusaders and others

good morning

Can someone explain to me why the crusaders have a br of 2.7 and 3.0?

They have about the same armor as an A13, a similar gun and a lower speed... but they have a 1.0 difference.

They cannot face any tank of their supposed br and to top it off the Crusader III has only 3 men crew.

What superpower do they have and I don't realize why they penalize them with 1.0 more?

World War is not really the right forum for this - probably "British light tank" forum would be better - maybe repeat it there??

 

The Crusader armour is thin, but a lot better arranged than the A13 - notably the turret front is 30mm vs 14mm.  But also the side armour is better at 14 (+4 for some of it) base vs 7+7, and the angling is better which at least partly makes up for the lack of doubling that the A13 Mk II has.

 

The Crusader II doesn't have much more going for it - but arguably that armour is significant vs light guns.

 

And of course the Crusader III has the 6 pdr gun - which is vastly better than the 2 pdr and well worth a buff on its own.

First of all, thank you for your reply. Yes I will look into putting it where you say.

Even so, since you have answered me, just tell you that the armour of the a13 mkII is 30mm and 28mm, chassis and turret respectively against 20 and 30 of the Crusader ... I don't see why it is penalized with more than 1.0 br of difference (1.3 vs 2.7).

You need to look at more than just the fact that both have 30mm armor max - where is that armour, and how useful is it? 

 

The A13 has it only on the front plate - that's good, but the location is not the most important

 

And the 28mm turret armour is mostly 2 seperate 14mm plates - so it not as good as a single 28mm plate - on the side and rear of the turret not the front.  The 14mm mantlet +14mm turret front is OK - but the majority of the turret front is only 14mm in a single plate - which is pathetically thin.

 

On the other hand the Crusader has it on the turret front directly protecting the "fighting crew" - that is a much better arrangement.  The 14mm turret sides are sloped quite a bit so probably almost as good as the A13 double plates - but much less important than the front.

 

Again whether this is worth the BR difference is a matter of opinion and/or Gaijin's inscrutable analytical magic...  but it is reasonably important.

Because they are awesome?  They are way better then the a13 and should be the br they are.
