Marketplace planes

Just thinking about the marketplace planes--the ones you buy from other players as opposed to just plunking down Golden Eagles for a premium.  What are your favorites or best deals?

 

Most of these I bought on the marketplace after they were event specials, the ones I can list are:

 

Fw 190 C: Probably my favorite of these, a goofy plane with a huge supercharger, slightly less armed than a 190 D-9 but capable of some wicked turns when you cut the throttle and hit the flaps.  Was cheap when I got it, now pushing $90.

 

ME-262 A-2a:  My most expensive one at $105, and it's mostly kept value.  It has made a good niche for a lower BR jet fighter back when the only options were the He-162 and the 50mm Me-262.  Now that the Ho-229 is BR 6.7 I have a decent lineup against low BR American jets at least. Soviet jets are another matter.

 

P-40C:  Was cheap, not as good as the later E/F models but it's not supposed to be.  Helps round out a team.

 

P-43A-1:  A pretty good low BR fighter, performs better than it looks.

 

Fw 189 A-1: Somewhat amusing as a low tier "fighter," (Yes I know it's a recon plane) but has the unusual plane curse, everyone wants to shoot it down.  Does perform better than you'd expect.

 

ITP M-1: Another plane that everyone flew for awhile after it was an event plane, still a heavy bruiser at it's BR.

 

I-180S: An I-16 with an attitude.

 

I-301: Well armed LAGG-3 prototype, and red to boot. 

 

J6K1:  With 6 20mm cannons but not so great flight performance it's like a high BR version of a Ba.65, useful to sweep through lower tier enemy at the end of a match.

 

M.B.152C1:  Twin cannons, it seems cannons are the only redeeming trait in low tier French aircraft. 

 

"Meh" aircraft are:

 

F2G-1:  Originally way uptiered, now at a tier close to it's rank.  For a brief time everyone was flying them, now it's the Corsair no one ever knew.

 

P-26A-34:  Cheap, gives an extra P-26, not really standing out otherwise

 

P-59A:  At least when I was flying it the plane was like a UFO, which was odd as the real one was so underpowered it could barely get out of it's way.  Probably the lowest BR jet but with a 37mm cannon and triple 50 caliber guns it's armed like a low tier YP-38.  Last I checked selling for almost $200, I paid probably $15 for mine.

 

F4D-1:  A BR 9.3 plane for a little over $15, see P-59 above.

 

He 112 B-2/U2: A Romanian He-112, can make a low tier German lineup rounded out with cannon equipped planes, but mainly it's the same plane with a different camo.

 

 

Unobtainable or ridiculous aircraft I've never been able to purchase are:

 

He 162 A-1:  Yes, a twin 30mm Salamander would be cool, but I'm not paying $1,000 for it.  

 

Hawk H-75A-2 (Germany):  Basically the French H75 in a Latvian camo under the German tree.   Selling for over $300, I have no idea why 

 

BI:  A novelty rocket powered plane, a Soviet Komet but without the name.  Probably should have got one when it was cheap, now $400

 

Ki-94-II:  A pretty good airplane, just at almost $200 out of my range.

And a reply because my ego demands it, some more marketplace/premium planes:

 

BV 155 B-1:  Rounds out a killer 4.0-4.3 German lineup with the Ta-154, 2 Do-335s, the two 109 F4's and the early FW-190's. Not the most maneuverable with it's huge wings but a 30mm and twin 20mm cannon.  Useful early in the match for killing bombers or late in the match when everyone is on low-tier airplanes.  Can dogfight better than a twin engine plane, but that's all.

 

Su-8:  With four NS-45 cannon (!) and 8 ShKAS rapid fire guns you either love it for the unreal firepower or hate because it's a lumbering twin engine behemoth.  Usually both.  At BR 4.7 it's honestly outclassed unless you like destroying ground vehicles, it would be great at BR 3.7 for zapping bombers.

 

A6M6c:  Kind of the same thinking as the 109K, put in a big WEP and go, and with three 13.2 guns it's a boost to the 2 20mm cannon.  But Japanese planes have the same problems as Italian, an awful lot of same.  Still, it's an improvement.

 

DB-7:  A big bomber that's faster than most at it's BR and some fighters, and can sort of be an attacker with 4 x 7.5 mm MAC 1934 guns....but it's like arming a whale with a slingshot.

 

And the one I'd like to get: I-29.  I never looked closely at it as I assumed it was a light bomber, until I ran into the pointy side of one...it's pretty serious little beast. Just at $300 this may take awhile.

I got two of the planes (DB-7 and He-51) and a boat, but the full time job and life commitments didn't leave me enough hours to play through them all so it'll be the next event or if one shows up for cheap in the marketplace,

I already had 3 or 4 of them and knew that I was gonna be able to get the rest by just playing for the Sturmmorser, but a good move would probably be to buy the cheaper ones on the market before starting so to increase the chances to get the ones you wanted most.

But the prices are so ridiculously high...I'd love to get the Fw190C but sixty bloody pounds?!? Insane. The market is a horrible, horrible idea, it just promotes pure greed and elitism. The vehicles should be made available via GE or in the store far more regularly to give people a chance, and to not get gouged by greedy people.
