Career_Refugee 4 Report post Posted December 10, 2022 The way RWR is modeled the game currently is entirely ahistorical. And now with 4th generation jets with heightened BVR capabilities, I believe it is a capability that is required for even semi-realistic air combat. Ex. RWRs on most US jets after the F-4E have the capability to detect location, strength, and type of radar waves detected as well as to determine the type of adversary, threat level of the track, and missile launches. DCS does an excellent job of modeling these RWRs for reference. Mig29 RWR SU27 RWR F16 RWR F14 RWR Just for example
F_16A 1,581 Report post Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) The Russians don't have an RWR even close to good, so not going to happen. Also, the Russians used the SPO-15 from the MiG-21 basically all the way up to the MiG-35/Su-33... and the SPO-15 is garbage. Career_Refugee 4 Report post Posted December 10, 2022 so what? are they worried the meta will just turn into nato jets going cold 24/7 on the deck and spamming IRs? like wouldn't this be a fair trade for IRST/HMD on most modern russian jets, make it a flavor thing

If you understand spo-15 correctly, it can give you more info then western one. It wont give you precise type but approx range can be guessed and if enemy is above or below. Neither of these really important factors are present on western ones and NO, they dont show range on scope. They have threat rings and these are based on threat and not range. Its coverage is about the same, you get approx 360° coverage around your plane. Steelbeast 562 Report post Posted December 20, 2022 I would be gratefull if the RWR could filter out friendly radars..
TPS Hydra@live 46 Report post Posted May 29, 2023 I don't know that much about RWR's compared to my Radar knowledge but I definitely know that the RWR model in-game is 100% a-historical. RWR's play a key role in all jets and are as important as radars, you don't see gaijin just giving everyone the same Radar do you? A example of this is Eastern jets such as the MiG-29 having IRST on the nose of the plane, Western jets don't get this feature but they have (in real life) better RWR's which can show where the lock is coming from, what altitude and ect ect. This would actually add diversity and a unique features to jets instead of them just being plain old copy n paste.
