Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet

i think the Meteor also deserves its own post as the primary long range weaponry of the 3 Eurocanards but I haven't really looked into that too much yet so I'm lacking sources.

@MBDA_Meteor  do you have any to share?

if you find any nice pictures, please add them here :)

just make sure that they're German Eurofighters(the lack of the PIRATE IRST is a good indication in case you can't see the flag on the tail and/or the registration markings on the side)

here is, what would appear to be, the 98-07 testbed(IPA 7, Instrumented Production Aircraft) during Taurus KEPD 350 integration trials. Any pictures of weapons like these with those black and white(sometimes also yellow and black) circles indicate that that weapon is used for testing. The blue stripe also indicates that its an inert weapon meaning that it does not contain a live warhead. Integration and flight tests of this weapon system on the Eurofighter have started in 2014 and are likely done by now(although i'm still looking for sources to confirm that). Airbus Defence and Space has presented the Taurus as a weapon for the Eurofighter which, to me, indicates that integration was done. Especially considering that it was, by MBDA officials, announced to be an easy integration.

Well Theoreticall it should be able to carry 8 IRIS-T with 4 Meteor in the center

because as far as i know the wing pylons exept the outermost ones can be MFRL from ACMA https://acma-missionmanagement.de/what-we-do/

wich can carry IRIS-T

dont know if u know german but i found this here

if y'all need any translations regarding this, just ask me. i am german and thus also speak german lol

they quote 6 IRIS-Ts on that website but i honestly dont see why it couldn't do more than that. it just kinda doesnt make any sense to carry more than 4. we've seen pictures of double rails with IRIS-Ts

but afaik no one has procured it yet

6 IRIS-T on the Multi purpose pylons  and 2 extra on the outer pylons wich are fixed pylons for AIM9L or IRIS-T

but those double racks would be juicy

The rocket motor of this missile is also rather special. Instead of using a constant thrust or dual stage(boost and sustain) motor, it uses a triple 'stage' motor. These stages include: 1. High thrust phase to get the missile away from the launching aircraft; 2. Lower thrust phase to allow the missile to turn as much as 180°(with lower Gs or higher turnrate); 3. High thrust phase to accelerate the missile to a top speed of about Mach 3 for higher range and a higher PK(or Probability of Kill).

Isnt it actually a quadruple stage? In addition to the 3 already listed, a final 4th stage with (again) low thrust for keeping speed while cruisng to the target and keeping the thrust vector alive.

So in total its hi-low-hi-low thrust

oh yeah

misread it as just the motor burning out and thus producing less and less thrust

So I've been doing some research on the DA1 prototype and I've come to the conclusion that it lacks countermeasures and most likely also an RWR.

Reason being that it lacks the integrated flare dispensers(under the wing), the BOL dispensers(in the ITSPL), any sign of a rear MWS antenna(between the engines and above the drag chute flap) and has a completely different ESM pod(the wingtip pods, these contain RWR and ECM antennas)

this is why i dont think that we'll see it in game. It's unfortunate because its one of the few Eurofighters that ever flew with the RB199 engines(yes, the Tornado's engines)

highres_d-19795.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=16706

If we're ever going to see a Eurofighter prototype(please gaijin, NOT AS AN EVENT VEHICLE), then its probably going to be the DA5...

That didnt matter for the F-5C getting flares nor the M6A2E1 getting its UFP

found some more concept info on the Eurofighter ECR thats going to replace the Tornado ECR in its role in the German Air Force:

TMB-Combat-9.jpg?w=1024%26ssl=1&f=1&nofb

Can't find the picture on airbus' website so this will have to do.

Note that they seem to plan 3 1000L fuel tanks. Thats not so special but whats different is that 2 of the tanks are supposed to be placed on the inner most wing pylons. Currently they're only being mounted on the middle ones(where the Escort Jammer pods are in this concept)

idk just seemed interesting

On the topic of the Eurofighter - do you guys thing we should make a dedicated thread to IRIS-T itself and collect all the available info on it there like the French players did for MICA?

That would probably be best, considering it's used by several fighters, German or otherwise.

Can the Eurofighter mount the regular SPEAR missiles?

Yes, but apparently they are not yet in any regular service. Just prototyping at the moment

Quote

This firing test took place during March 2016 when a SPEAR trials missile was launched from a Eurofighter Typhoon trials aircraft operated by BAE Systems at the QinetiQ Aberporth range in Wales. The missile transitioned through separation from the Typhoon aircraft to powered flight before completing a series of manoeuvres, ending in a terminal dive to the desired point of impact. The missile accurately followed the planned trajectory and was well within simulation predictions; all trial objectives were achieved.

That's an interesting double mount for those Paveways, and the SPEAR triple mount means a lot of ordinance if it comes to game

Not totally surprising, Air-to-ground seems to have been put to the wayside on the first tranches
