Apex update no longer works on Mac

Hello I have an intel macbook, I tried to log in this morning, it won't let me log in either with the minimal or full client version or with the work version, because it freezes completely before it starts.

same here, I've tried various of ways to fix it according to the warthunder web but still it didn't work. The game automatically crashes when I enters the main interface. The new small update did let me go into the game but it still crashed after a few sec when i'm in the garage.

None of this works.  

 

This is an ongoing issue.  Every time they drop a new crafting or whatever event, it kills the game for Mac users.  This happened with 'Overpowered', just not as bad.  

 

Same for Drone Age, and Battle for Arachis which came in with Winds of Change - the worst update in the history of software, and that includes most Microsoft Office updates.

 

Gaijin, there is an obvious issue with your implementation of the Metal architecture on Macs, and something in the updates most likely specific to the Events is a major catalyst to the problems.  

 

It should be easy to find and fix.  'RealMajorHavok' found a fix for the video issue from the WoC fail that actually worked, so someone at Gaijin should already have a general idea of where to start looking.  I was trying to narrow it down before this new update screwed that up.  Just give one dev some time to look into this and we can likely FINALLY end this recurring issue.

Good luck with that.  We've NEVER been compensated for the **** they drop on us.  We're lucky most of these things even get "fixed".  Those are most likely usually just lucky accidents.

I've had terrible bugs ever since the Winds of Change event, usually a total lockup when loading into a match which requires a hard reset. There has been no response or fixes in the changelogs ever since Winds of Change yet the bug report tracker keeps on filling up!

 

What makes it more insulting is that Gaijin continues to advertise the Mac client on Mac related videos (see Mac Address or Linus Tech Tips), you cannot in good faith continue to advertise the MacOS client in the current state. An official dev response acknowledging the current state would be much appreciated, just let us know that something is being looked into.

Pyro, check out RealMajorHavok's fix I mentioned in an earlier post.  You basically delete content files and lock the folder so WT can't replace the files.  Since doing that, my game has never been more stable.  No freezes, crashes, or video glitches.  Those file are for the extra content, like decals, camos and other add-ons, as well as the Battle Pass stage graphics, so you'll lose those.  I've figured out how to get the BP graphics and camo and other items back without affecting the game.  It seems like it's something to do with some decals.  I've been working on figuring out exactly what it is, but I haven't been able to get very far yet.  Of course, this is all something the Gaijin devs should be able to figure out much faster than we can.

Hi, do you mind sharing how you did that for camos ? I tried to do some selective cache permissions but this seemed to accelerate the flickering (I can play only for 5 matches average, then its starts to hallucinate). Thanks.

Hi Functor.  

 

From RMH's suggestion, I removed everything from the 'Content' folder (/Applications/WarThunderLauncher.app*/Contents/WarThunder.app*/Contents/Resources/game/cache/content - right click both .app and 'Show Package Contents').  So far I have been able to add back all of the items that weren't in a sub-folder (14 items - dldata_s.info and 13 'downloadablexxxxx.blk').  That should bring back most items from the Battle Pass and Configuration items.  It appears that all of the decals are contained in the 639 alpha-numeric folders (1 or 2 decals per folder apparently).  So far I have been able to add back folders 2b through 2t and still have stable operation.  Once you have the folder set up, Cmd-I to Get Info, and lock the folder, so the software can't repopulate it with the corrupted files.  When you are in the Hangar, you'll see info messages about content loading failures.  These will continue as long as the game is open, but do not affect anything as far as I have seen.

after deleting the content files inside cache, I now have the access to BP contents and same with the ground camos. But still, plane camo's and decals are not showing up. Just curious when will gaijin fix this as it's a quite severe problem, or they have now refused to fix this because we have found an improvise method

Sorry for any confusion.  It's been so long, but you are correct.  Delete everything from the /Applications/WarThunderLauncher.app*/Contents/WarThunder.app*/Contents/Resources/game/cache/ folder, but you can leave the webvromfs folder and the items in the content folder that I mentioned above.  I've been concentrating on bringing back the 'contents' folder because that appears to hold most of the graphics files for the decals.  And it appears that there are some graphics in the contents folder that may be causing some of the issues we've been seeing.

thank you so much for this specification, but did gaijin just abadoned us or their acually trying to fix this.

I personally have no idea.  I'm just a fan of the game trying to keep it playable for myself.  I know I've personally put in at least 3 different reports when something has gone wrong, as well as adding to many multiple other reports and forum discussions.  I don't think I've ever seen much more than 'the devs are working on it' as a response.  No 'sorry', no 'here's something for your trouble', no information about why it works when it does miraculously start working again.  No notes in the updates about it.  Playstation 4 users had almost the exact same graphics glitch we had after the WoC update.  They got it fixed within 3 days, had notes about it in the update announcements, and got Premium time refunds (I believe- don't quote me on that one).  And that was for an obsolete console that likely doesn't have many more users than we are.
