F-15EX is a next-generation F-15 aircraft developed and delivered by Boeing for the US Air force in March 2021. Prior to that, the USAF sought replacement for its aging F-15C/Ds during 2018 to 2020. It wasn’t until July 2020 that the Department of the Air Force awarded to Boeing a contract to develop and produce up to 200 F-15EXs. The first F-15EX made its maiden flight from St. Louis Lambert International Airport on 2 February 2021 and was delivered to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in March 2021, On 7 April 2021, the F-15EX’s official name Eagle II was announced.

The F-15EX fighter jet retained two seats and installed a new electronic warfare system, advanced cockpit systems such as Large Area Display glass-cockpit, Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System, modern sensors and radars, modern software capabilities and Open Mission Systems architecture with advanced battle management systems, and Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System that enhances situational awareness. The F-15EX is installed with digital fly-by-wire flight controls and the APG-82(V)1 AESA radar that allows the aircraft to multi-target track in an extended longer range. It is powered by two F110-GE-129 engines, capable of generating a thrust of 29,000 pounds each. The aircraft can still fly at Mach 2.5 and has a normal combat range of 1,200 nautical miles.

The two F-15EXs were already produced and delivered to the USAF. Originally, the USAF had orders for 144 new F-15EXs, but that had changed as the USAF reduced its orders to 80 F-15EXs. All are expected to be delivered within the next five years.

Conclusion
