Gaijin probably could have omitted the 8 ty90 loadout on the premium z19 but this aint a vikhr situation, ty90 are actually performing exactly how they should be irl, in fact the flare resistance should probably be better if anything. People just aren't used to air to air missiles that actually work lol. i could actually said the same for AIM-7 and pulse doppler on the plane. they used to be able to lock heli from the rotor blade spinning but not anymore. i would argue that plane should counter helicopter, except not incase of USSR and China. KA-50/2 got Vikhr that can be use as AA and TY90 is basically AIM-9L on steroid. if you got both of them on the map the air pretty much on their control. Well, to be honest the TY-90s are not OP, it's that the other stuff is still lagging behind (well recently stingers have been buffed significantly) and there's also the fact that the TY-90 is NOT a standard little MANPAD missile, it has been developed specifically for helicopter use. Also, no the Z-19 missiles are NOT fire and forget, they use LOCK ON AFTER LAUNCH, which means you can fire them up in the air, hide for a while, then peek out and lase the target. If you're good enough you can make great use of this, however because they have only 6km it also allows the AA to have a better chance against people that can't utilise the LOAL mechanics skillfully. 1 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
GeekyOptics 6 Report post Posted June 18, 2023 TY-90's are amazing and if you have a Chinese heli player with at least decent situational awareness, this hands down can be used to control the skies. I would go as far to say that this alone is more effective then most SPAA's simply because you have altitude and speed on your side. I do find myself paired with the Russians about 60/40 but when you're fighting them these missiles are perfect in denying Russian CAS. I believe the Chinese have the strongest Helicopter tree simply because of good Anti- Air missiles, decent Anti Ground and top notch maneuverability. Sure you don't get a chopper with a cannon until the very end of the tree but with missiles as good as the TY-90's it can be overlooked.
