List of chilean vehicles that could be integrated

qts99bh.jpg

Description:

  • A Chilean tech sub-tree that complements the Israeli tree already present in the game. It is made up of tanks and vehicles of different types throughout the history of Chile that add up to a total of 37 vehicles of different types and ranges. Israel and Chile have had a long history of military aid where Israel has supplied war material and important modernizations to Chile when other countries refused to do so during the troubled times of the 1970s when Chile was experiencing great political instability, one of the most remembered aid was When Israel sold its famous Israeli M-51 to Chile together with the IMI high pressure cannon, 60/70 mm. HVMS that would be used to equip the mythical Chilean tanks M-60 HVMS and the M24 HVMS both improved with this powerful cannon that would give them a unique appearance and great firepower, this same cannon would be used to equip 2 other prototypes of unique vehicles little known that can be seen in this tree. A large part of the vehicles in this sub-tree are related to Israel, either by origin, modifications, weapons, cannons or ammunition. As a personal opinion, I think that the best location for this tree would be as a sub-tree of Israel because of the above and because it has many unique and very interesting vehicles, a reflection of the long history between Chile and Israel. As a subtree for Israel these vehicles would be very valuable additions, as most are powerful light tanks and tank destroyers that Israel currently lacks, and the Chilean subtree also includes some interesting anti-aircraft vehicles that help complete the list. There are also unique vehicles that were made in Chile, such as the BMS-1 Alacrán rocket launcher, which is considered the last half-track built in the world, the VTP-2 Escarabajo, a very fast vehicle that has a 25mm anti-armor gun for name a few.
  • Also, this Chilean ground subtree will complement the Chilean air subtree for Israel, which also has many planes that were modified by Israel, so both trees will have a great link with Israel and a lot of sense. I hope you like my idea.

The Chilean F5 Plus prototype, F-5E No. 805 performing a test flight in Israel. The F-5E/F Tigre II fleet would also be modified to Tigre III standard by ENAER with the assistance of IAI, producing one of the most powerful F-5E/F in the world.

Disclaimers:

  • Not necessarily all the vehicles on the following list must be added, they can be chosen according to the convenience of the Israeli tree and be moved as needed. it was ordered in the best way I found possible.
  • As mentioned above, this list includes quite a few vehicles that are related to Israel, but there are also others that are not, so they were introduced to complete the Israel tree and are also important additions that were or are part of the Chilean Army.
  • The BR of this tree represent the realistic game mode.
  • In the event that new Israeli vehicles for ranks lower than 4 are never integrated, the vehicles of rank 1,2 and 3 of the Chilean sub-tree can be eliminated for the convenience of the tree, integrating only those of rank 4 upwards.
  • some vehicles have very little information available on the internet, so some data may not be 100% accurate, also some sources may contradict each other in some aspects such as technical specifications, basically I did what I could with what I found, if anyone has More information about any vehicle can be left in comments.
  • Other vehicles can be implemented in this list later:
  1. CommandCar Mapats
  2. Leopard 1V SLM
  3. AMX-30B1

Spoiler

  • Description:
    • The BMS-1 Alacrán was developed in the early 1980s by the Chilean company Industrias Cardoen. Chile had gained great experience in the modernization of the M3A1 half-tracks in the 1970s, so it was decided to develop a nationally manufactured vehicle. Known versions of the Alacran include a C3I vehicle, a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, a fire support vehicle with a large-caliber gun, an ambulance, a multiple launch rocket system with a LAU-97 70mm rocket launcher, a rocket carrier ATGM, and a 120mm mortar carrier. Other variants have been proposed, but not built. This vehicle developed and built in Chile was the last half-track that is known to have been built and even so there is little information and photos about it; Capable of surpassing all its predecessors in mobility, unfortunately it was never produced in series. The only photos that can be found are the ones of him holding the LAU-97 70mm rocket launcher

  • Description:
    • In 1952, a total of 17 Sherman tanks of the M4A1E9 version arrived in Chile with radial engine, which ran on 100/110 octane white gasoline, were updated, rebuilt, and modernized by Chrysler. Part of the process was the installation of the so-called "spaced-out suspension" which gave them the E9 designation. Track claw extenders were installed to increase track width. the E9 modification included wider track guard fenders and "fender clamps", they also had extra armor on the sides that can be easily seen from the outside (where the ammunition stores are located), on the right side of the mantlet (protecting to the gunner and commander). They were in service for a few decades in Chile. They were finally decommissioned in the 1970s.

  • Description:
    • Chile received its 21 M24 Chaffees in 1952, arriving at Antofagasta, a port city located in the Center-North of Chile. Subsequently, some of these M24s were modified by welding an anti-aircraft mount in the commander's cupola for a 12.7 mm Browning M2HB, and in the mount that already existed in the default tank, a 7.62 mm Browning M1919 machine gun was installed, operable by the charger, which raised the number of machine guns to 4. Chile decides to change the engine of its M24 since it had many problems, for which Chile opens a tender, the German company Mercedes-Benz, the American Cummins Engine Company and a joint project of the companies Detroit Diesel and MACO Pvt. Ltd responded to the tender. All three projects were tested by modifying three Chilean Chaffee M24s where they were put through extensive testing. At the end of 1978, the joint MACO-Detroit Diesel project was chosen as the winner and the 21 M24 Chaffee engines were repowered by the Detroit 53T 6V diesel of 250 hp at 2800 rpm and weighing 770 kg. The engine compartment was not modified as the new engine fit perfectly. The only part modified was the engine platform, which received more air vents to facilitate air circulation. A new radio station of unknown model with a new antenna on a mount on the right side of the turret was also added. The hydramatic automatic transmission with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears was replaced by a 5-speed Allison HT 700 automatic transmission (5 forward and 1 reverse). Top speed increased slightly to around 60 km/h, while weight increased from 18.4 to 19 tons.

Spoiler

  • Description:
    • In 1990, the Marine Corps (CIM) of the Chilean Navy decided to restructure its forces and repower them, since there were some deficiencies. It was decided to incorporate a vehicle capable of serving in landing missions as well as new artillery material for coastal defense. Thus, in 1993, Chile decided to begin negotiations with the United Kingdom and thus concluded with the purchase of a battery of MBDA Exocet MM-38 land-launched anti-ship missiles and Alvis FV-101 Scorpion light reconnaissance tanks. In this way, in 1995, the Chilean Marine Infantry created the Combat and Reconnaissance Vehicle Company where its main protagonist would be the new FV101 Scorpion that belonged to the British Army. In 2008, Spain sold 15 units of this vehicle to Chile at a symbolic price that were used by the Spanish Navy between 1986 and 2004, and before being delivered they were left in optimal conditions. The new Scorpions differ from the originals in that they were modified and their original 4.2-litre Jaguar petrol engine was replaced with a new 200hp Perkins T6/3544 six-cylinder diesel engine which proved to have longer service life and a less risk of fire. They also had other quite important improvements, a laser rangefinder was incorporated to more accurately calculate the distance to the target, night vision scopes for low light missions and an electronic calculator . they were finally decommissioned in 2022 as they were replaced by the NZLAV 8x8 that now serve in the Marine Corps (CIM) of the Chilean Navy.

M-51 Project-T

Spoiler

  • Description:
    • In 1977, Chile and Israel signed a contract that provided for the purchase of tanks. A first batch of 10 M-51s arrived by sea in 1977. The other 109 M-51s were shipped in 1978. The issue of machine guns was not standardized in the Chilean M-51, so in photos you can see in some cases carrying the 12.7 mm Browning M2HB machine gun, in others the 7.62 mm Browning M1919 machine gun. At the end of 1990, Chile began an upgrade program for the M-51 called "Project-T", which modified the original engine for a new one, the 350 hp 2100 rpm 8V-71T diesel engine, Detroit Diesel was installed. The exhaust outlet of the engine is quite large and is located on the upper part of the chassis, which modifies the original appearance of the tank. The original Cletrac gearbox has been retained. The change to the new engine meant the increase in top speed to 46 km/h, there is also a .50 Browning on top. The gunner's optics were upgraded, laser rangefinders were added on many M-51s, and gun mounts were repaired.

  • Description:
    • In 1964 the first 10 M41 Walker Bulldog tanks arrived in Chile in their A1 version. During 1970, a second batch of 40 M41A3 arrived, which presented some improvements compared to the A1 version, mainly in the movement system of the turret and the gun, which made it easier to traverse and raise the gun. In addition, in Chile it was locally modified by changing the original Continental AOS 895-3 engine for the new Detroit 8V71 TA diesel engine with After Cooler system that develops 450 CV at 2,500 rpm, increasing autonomy to 450 km. The largest visible sample of this change of engine is that the engine exhaust outlets that were on both sides at the rear of the chassis were completely removed and are no longer visible as on the original.

  • Description:
    • At the end of 2004, Chile bought 24 second-hand M-109A3 self-propelled howitzers from Switzerland, later 24 second-hand units of the M-109A5 model in the United States. Before being sent to Chile, they were modernized by BAE Systems, receiving the M284 gun and its M182 mount, as well as navigation and positioning systems for the tank. During the year 2021 "Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército" (Famae) Chilean company and the Swiss company Ruag began a process of improving the M109 by improving the ammunition loading system through its repair and the automatic 22-piece ammunition loading system of artillery, also the two loading trays were changed for new ones. In this way, improving the reload times of artillery ammunition, which will allow firing its ammunition with more efficiency. The project of the same Chilean company FAMAE was also implemented, which consists of the modernization of the fire control system of the M-109 integrating the Nekulpan Fire Command and Control System (SMCF) that was developed by FAMAE and another Chilean company called DESA.  Nekulpan has, among other features, NATO 2525B symbology, marching routes, a ballistic calculator for different ammunition, mission status display for each unit in the network, and drone management as a control station. All these improvements place them at the level of an M109A5+ but in Chile it is locally called M109 CHL or CL because it was also modified by national companies.

  • Description:
    • The Republic of Chile would buy a mix of around 100 M-50 and M-51 Sherman starting in 1983, some of these tanks had their guns removed so Israel offered to fit them with the 60mm HVMS gun from an association from OTO-Melara of Italy and Israeli Military Industries (IMI). Twenty-seven of these tanks were sent to Chile in 1988. The Chilean Army called it the "M-60" because of the new 60mm cannon they carried. Also the Chilean army decided to replace the original 460 hp Cummins V-8 diesel engine with the new 535 hp Detroit Diesel 8V-71T V-8 engine that was more powerful than the previous one which gave these tanks a distinctive appearance. Since now the exhaust pipe of the engine came out through the upper part of the chassis and not through the rear, the Chilean army had to make a hole so that the new exhaust pipe could come out and a protective plate was welded on top of it. these 2 improvements were the main ones that gave it a distinctive appearance and more firepower and engine power, which would make its anti-tank performance go up a lot, being able to face rivals with more armor.

  • Description:
    • 21 M24 Chaffee engines were repowered by the Detroit 53T 6V diesel of 250 hp at 2800 rpm and weighing 770 kg. Received more air vents to facilitate air circulation. a new machine gun mount was installed on top of the tank. A new radio station of unknown model with a new antenna on a mount on the right side of the turret was also added. The hydramatic automatic transmission with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears was replaced by a 5-speed Allison HT 700 automatic transmission (5 forward and 1 reverse). Top speed increased slightly to around 60 km/h, while weight increased from 18.4 to 19 tons. from 1983 the Chilean company FAMAE was in charge of beginning to install all the new improvements, starting with replace the M6 guns of the Chaffees with the new and powerful 60 HVMS guns , with new systems firing and obviously a new gyro-stabilizer . the M24 HVMS received, like the M-60 HVMS, a Fire Control System (FCS) developed by the Israeli companies Elbit and EL-OP which guaranteed a very high precision even at long range and a moderate precision even on the move. In addition, a travel lock on the transmission cover plate was added for the new longer barrel gun. all these modifications increased the weight of the vehicle that came to weigh 22 tons.

  • Description:
    • The construction of the Chilean Mowag Piraña was carried out by Industrias Cardoen and FAMAE (Fabricas y Maestranzas del Ejercito de Chile) in the early 1980s. Industrias Cardoen was a Chilean defense company, owned by Carlos Cardoen. In this version, 4 anti-aircraft blowpipe missiles and 2 anti-tank Mamba missiles were installed. Blowpipe missiles have the particularity that they must be guided by means of a joystick (MCLOS) by the gunner since they do not have an automatic guidance system, in addition, these were installed for a time in Israeli Gal-class submarines, but were later withdrawn. Being a joystick-guided system and not automatic, the Blowpipe could also be used as an anti-tank if necessary, since the missile is guided manually and the gunner must follow his target all the time. This missile was used during the Falklands War (Malvinas War) by both sides, where the British managed to shoot down an Argentine Aermacchi MB-339 with one of these missiles, while the Argentines managed to shoot down a British Harrier GR3 with one of these missiles. This version of the Chilean Piranha also carries the Mamba anti-tank missiles; The Mamba missile is the best version of the missile called Cobra, which was designed by the companies Oerlikon-Contraves and Bölkow GmbH. The Mamba was introduced in 1972 and improved the guidance system, adding a dual thrust motor, the Mamba must also be used with a Joystick for guidance (MCLOS). This version could be seen in different military parades held every year in Chile for the celebration of independence, in some years it could be seen with the Blowpipe and Mamba missiles in the same vehicle, while in other years as in the military parade In 1989 he was seen only with the Blowpipe, in 1992 he was seen only with the Mamba missiles. In the photo in this section of the Piranha you can see it carrying the 2 missile systems, although the exact year is unknown.

Leopard 1V

Spoiler

  • Description:
    • Chile acquired in November 1997, through Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército (Famae), from the company RDM Technology a total of 202 Leopard 1V battle tanks belonging to the Royal Netherlands Army. The choice of the Leopard 1V tanks was due to the fact that they had a series of modifications which would facilitate the use of these tanks in the future. these upgrades were American-sourced radios , locally produced smoke grenade launchers , 7.62 x 51mm FN Herstal MAG machine guns , and hydraulic turret stabilization system from manufacturer Honeywell. Later, in the 1980s, the tanks received appliqué-type spaced armor on the tower from the German manufacturer Blohm + Voss, side skirts on the hull and the EMES-12A3 AFSL-2 fire control system produced by Honeywell and Zeiss (today Hensoldt) so after this improvement process they received the denomination 1V for Verbeterd or Improved. The implemented EMES-12A3 AFSL-2 fire control system puts it at the level between a leopard 1A4 and the leopard 1A5. The Leopard 1V began to arrive in Chile in January 1999 and the delivery process concluded in the year 2000. Later, an important improvement was added to provide them with night combat capacity, the Panzer-Ziel night image intensification system. und Beobachtungsgerät PZB 200 from AEG-Telefunken that enables it to shoot on the move under any condition. A search light was also added to the top of the tank. Few countries currently have the Leopard 1 operational as a combat tank, including Chile, in addition to the fact that currently only Chile has the 1V variant worldwide and with that unique appearance. It is expected that in a few years they will all be replaced by more Leopard 2 that the Chilean army already owns. A few years ago, a technical team from China traveled to Chile to modernize the Chilean Leopard 1V, replacing the old night vision PZB 200 with a Chinese-made all-weather scope, although it is unknown if they were finally implemented. An Israeli LAHAT missile was also launched from a Chilean Leopard 1V in the north of the country during some tests, there is a video that can be found on YouTube of this event.

It was initially developed in collaboration with Israel Military Industries (IMI) and the Chilean company Desarrollos de Automatización (DESA). The SLM FAMAE incorporates the Nekulpan fire control system developed by the Chilean company DESA. The SLM FAMAE was presented to the public for the first time at FIDAE 2014 (international air and space fair), where it was possible to observe the weapons it can carry (Israeli) along with a demonstration of the movement of the system. For the development of the SLM, two IMI weapons were used as an example, the high precision Accular 160mm artillery rocket, which carries an explosive charge of 35kg, has a margin of error of 10 meters, much less than the 18.7 meters of the Rayo rocket, also has 306 mm extended-range guided missiles, with an explosive charge of 120 kilograms, has a maximum range of 150 kilometers and a margin of error of 1.4 meters. FAMAE also produces its own LAR 160 rockets that can be used on the SLM platform along with various other types of rockets and missiles of different categories and sizes. The truck in which the rocket system is mounted is a MAN KAT 1 6x6 modified by FAMAE, the truck has the peculiarity of having armored shutters on the truck windows for the protection of the driver and his companions, also the roof is a little thicker than the version original, it also has 4 stabilizers that can be lowered to provide a more stable shooting platform for shooting at long distances, and finally The lifting and turning of the truck-mounted launchers is done via an electro-hydraulic system mounted on the rear of the truck. . All these features give it a distinctive design along with its desert camouflage.

Spoiler

  • Description:
    • In 2007 Chile bought 234 Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany. These were modified and called the Leopard 2A4CHL. The institution's new tanks were given the CHL designation by their manufacturer KMW because they have a series of modifications, including a communications system from Elbit's Tadiran company and the installation of a special kit on the turbochargers of the 12-cylinder MTU MB 873 Ka 501 4 engines , which allows them to operate without overheating problems at 4,300 meters above sea level. The Leopard 2A4 CHLs use in their 120 mm L/44 smoothbore guns HEAT DM 12 multipurpose ammunition and KE DM 33 A2 and DM 63 armor piercing projectiles stabilized by fins with sabot disposable casing (APFSDS) from the German manufacturer Rheinmetall Defence. To this type of ammunition it recently added the IM HE-T high explosive tracer ammunition from Nammo. In 2015, a FibroTex package was installed in a Leopard2A4CHL of the Chilean army. the kit tested was called "multispectral cloak" and was intended to be deployed on mobile and static platforms. The kit does not protect against attack but provides electro-optic mimicry and protection against electromagnetic detection, which helps make the tank much more difficult to detect and therefore not as easily prey to anti-tank missiles or other infrared-guided devices (SWIR) or thermal systems. It is presumed that the Chilean army implemented this kit to deal with the large number of anti-tank missiles that its neighbor Peru has, but since the Chilean army handles its purchases as a secret, it cannot be 100% confirmed, although this company has been selling to Chile since 2001 this type of camouflage and systems, even so there are images that show that the kit was implemented in Chilean tanks and also on the same official website of the FibroTex company Chilean tanks appear with the kit implemented. The company Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército (Famae) plays a central role in sustaining the Chilean Leopard 2A4 CHL battle tanks. In recent years, the Chilean public company has implemented, through the Research, Innovation and Development Management (I2D), a series of programs to improve the capabilities of the Leopard 2A4 CHL tanks, among which the change of the Peri periscope gyroscopic system stands out. R-17 A1 to be able to use Leopard 1V tank gyros and modification of the digital ballistic computer card incorporating Nammo's 120 x 57 mm HE-T ammunition shooting table , which allows the execution of long and accurate indirect shots and firing against fortified targets and bunkers.

Think Chilean could work best as Premium/Event vehicles in the Isreali tree.

Also im mostly an advocate for a Spanish Speaking International tree. Granted im not in the know about how good relations Chile has with nations such as Spain, Argentina and Mexico if such as tree would be fully possible and only possible to a lesser extent.

But again. I think i can run with these vehicles as Premium/Event for Isreal just so there are some meat to add for the smallest and least played tree in the game. :salute:

I support this subtree shall begin from rank I, granted, the Israeli tree itself should also begin from rank 1.

I would like it too, hopefully Gaijin will add more tanks for low-rank israel :good:

A well researched and curated suggestion that would make for a very interesting addition to War Thunder.

It was a job that took several days but I think it was worth it, thank you very much :)

I would like to see Chilean tanks in the Israeli tree, that's why I said that it was not necessary for the entire list to be included, I would also like very much to see a Latin American tree one day, hopefully we can see something like that one day :salute:

Absolutely +1!

Many say Turkey would be a better sub-tree for Israel, but considering that that nation can work on it's own as an Israeli-style tree, I think this is the best possible sub-tree.

If they add half of the tanks on this list, I'm happy haha, thanks for the support :D

Excellent suggestion, great way to implement Chile :salute:

By the way, there were talks about Chile acquiring 2A5 or upgrading their 2A4 fleet to A5 level, what happened to this plan ? Also, you could add "regular" 2A4 too, no ? This would give a proper back-up.

Only if the crew get to shout oye weón at each other.

More seriously, I thought I might add something I recently found from Jane's Armoured Fighting Vehicle Retrofit Systems 1993-94, a Cardoen/Famae Piraña supposedly fitted with a NORINCO HJ-8 launcher. I'm unsure if there's any other photos of this yet, but I'll look around. Regardless, +1 for Chile!

There is talk that Chile will update its Leo2A4 to the Revolution standard, in recent years a package of updates has been listed, so in the future an important update should be seen. In any case, if something important happens, I will add it here.

It would be incredible if they implemented the tankers' ways of speaking, that would give the game a lot of personality haha, I hadn't seen what you mentioned but I also found a photo now.

I don't remember where I initially found it but I came across it while I was building my Chinese Ground Tree Overhaul and saved it just in case. Remembered I had it when I saw the Jane's page.

+1, even though i voted it to start the TT at tier IV, treat it more as "TT starting at Tier III" more due to the fact that Israeli has enough vehicles (both in air and ground) to have a Tier III

I think there is a suggestion in the Israel section to add the missing vehicles from tier 1 to 3 of your tree, I think that in the future your tree will be complete and hopefully they will include some Chilean vehicles as well, and thank you very much for your support :salute:
