xxIRONHEAD787xx's guide to.... Light Tanks!

Disclaimer: This is how I play these vehicles. You should play these vehicles as you wish.

Fast, light and often times annoying buggers, the light tank class is your team's eyes and ears, racing toward the enemy to eliminate their scouts or capture the points.

Light tanks are well, light. They trade armor and survivability for additional speed. However, this does not mean they can't take hits. In my games of War Thunder, I have survived and seen many strange occurrences of light tanks surviving rounds that should've took them out of the fight (Once, I survived a KV-2 shell in an M22 Locust).

These tanks are in almost every country, though each are different in their own respective ways. For example, the French tech tree rank 1 light tanks have heavy armor, but their guns are almost useless, while the Rank 1 German light tanks have powerful 37mm guns and are extremely fast.

How do I use light tanks?

Using your speedier vehicle can be annoying, because you have null armor and can die extremely fast. You should go to a vantage point on the map, hide, and call out enemy positions on the minimap. Your intel can save your team mates vehicles if they pay attention. If spotted, retreat. Do not attempt to Rambo into the enemy because you'll meet an unfortunate end. Often times, you can bypass enemy positions altogether and hit their SPAA or SPGs.

Scout.

Rank II and above light tanks have a unique ability to spot enemy vehicles for 30 seconds. If killed in those thirty seconds by another player, you'll get a reward.

Avoid.

Now, while your light tank might seem like a go-kart with a gun, don't treat it like one. In matches with heavy tanks, you can pray you'll get a penetrating shot on them and get a kill in one shot, or you can hide and spot them for your team. Spotting enemies still rewards you (as mentioned above) and can often be the turning point in the match.

Survive.

Your light tank was built for speed, not durability. The best way to survive is to not get spotted in the first place. Use your size and surroundings to your advantage. By staying hidden, you can become a nuisance for the enemy to have to deal with, by hiding in a capture zone where you can't be easily seen.

Some SPAAs and SPGs also have the ability to spot enemy vehicles (Mainly the Wiesel SPAA series and the ASU series, respectively.)

Now that you know how to play the light tank, get out there and let the lead fly.
