Say something nice about War Thunder.

Let's bring up the positive side of War Thunder. What do you like about the game?

For me personally:

  • Ease of use - aircraft mouse control. It really does not have any competition in this regard. I can just come back from work, hop in and in 5 minutes I am dogfighting over Vietnam. Though WT could use more game modes instead of TDM. AIR RB is getting really outdated.
  • High quality vehicle models. It really is something pleasing just to look at the vehicle model in hangar. I don't have to visit museum for that. Though Gaijin, you could finish work on the WiP cockpits after 10 years NGL.
  • Customisation - decals, camos, decorators. I have to give extra gratitude to Gaijin for not implementing over the top cringe decals and camos and for the option to turn off unhistorical camos. I'd stop playing immediately if you'd go the Call of Duty way of pink flashing skins or rainbow unicorn effects. So, once again, thank you for keeping it grounded in this regard. Though some vehicles lack camos. I'd love more camos and acrobatic smoke options for aircraft.
  • Crafting events. I know I know, controversial opinion. But on the other hand, nobody forces anyone to participate in them and it gives out a free vehicle which people can then turn in for GJN to buy premium stuff. So in this sense F2P players can still earn premium rewards and I think thats good. Though the grind could be eased juuuust a little bit. Like 20% less grind please.
  • Special events such as april fools or halloween events. You have one of the best april fools events out of anygame out there.
  • Implementation of neat features which have no direct impact on monetisation. Such as realistic jet exhaust effects, airfield lighting (pls gib aircraft collision lights), ejection seats, wingtip vortices (pls gib wing condensation for high G maneuvers), accurate star position in the sky (yes thats a thing!), atmosphere density - the higher you go, the less dense air - missiles travel faster, sun is brighter and if you go high high up, you can see Earths curvature and stars even during the day (I love it). Explosion shock waves. Model degradation via damage or weather (torn tank side skirts, plane skin burnt by fire, vehicles getting dusty the more you drive...). I really like these small touches which come a long way IMO.
  • Custom battles. Many people don't know this, but you can actually play with / against people on custom battle servers (only with vehicles you have). I can't stretch it enough how fun it is. Its where I actually learned to dogfight. You don't pay any SL, but you also don't get any SL or RP.
  • And lastly. You can come up with fun game modes from time to time. For example: AIR RB EC (from 2018/2019) was for me the pinnacle of this game and what War Thunder should have ultimately become. Any chances for bringing AIR RB EC back in its true form? At least as regular weekend events? Please?

Final word to Gaijin. If someone criticises your game, its not because they hate it, its because they love the game. They want to make already a good game even better.

Thank you

There are a lot of nice things to say about the game. It is absolutely fantastic, made by devs who love the game. War Thunder and its developers are really not the problem.

The problem is the finance department and leadership who are willing to sacrifice the game for a quick buck.

I like this game. It has a unique playstile then other games that have HP system. Here you have a different moduels that if they get damaged it will effect your vehicle performance. This is rare. Uniques vehicels in it and more that can be added like more nation TT (still hoping and coping for Easter EU TT - Czechoslovakia, Poland, Baltic states, Ukraine, Yugoslavia so those interesting vehicles dont need to go to Russia TT)

There are some thing that need to be fix and be worked on. Like over pressure, volumetric, spalling, shell performance, but biggest one is economy, whole endless grinding. In  the same time Gaijin just cannot communicate with player base. On forums moderators are on damage controls trying to calm angry player base which is devs  cause . Debates are getting locked and deleted. Then they talk to us like we are idiots and it is our fault: "We unfolding vehicles so players can build and line up and get more experience." and at the same time they are showing a height tier premium vehicles down our throat which allows to skip a whole TT.    That is what massively suck about this game.

The game's gorgeous. Really. The gameplay's fun too, cruising around in a tank, shooting stuff, flying in planes and launching. The gameplay loop is very fun for me (would be more fun if Air RB was more similar to Air SB, no markers, multiple airfields, longer matches).
Look at that cool screenshot I captured a few days ago

How easy it is to win if USSR is on your team at top tier

Like honestly the most fun you can have a top tier i see the enemy team get destroyed by BVM and Ka 50/52 while a pantsir stops enemy planes from even spawning

I don't like anything about War Thunder per se...I am however a big fan of certain military vehicles that existed irl. I have not spent one penny on War Thunder and have no intention of changing that in the future; the general experience is that bad and the developers are obnoxious and incompetent.

The way the players react shows clearly how much they appreciate the game and that it is a lot of fun to play overall.

If Gaijin uses the current events as a starting point to implement changes that are received as good for the players and then starts to take continuous feedback into consideration, then we have a fun game with loyal players and Gaijin has a stabile income product. A win-win situation.

Which ones? Are they in WT, or you waiting for them to come in the future?

I personally started to play WT due to it being the only game in existance (that I know of) having Ho 229. Also was always secretely hoping and coping for F-16 and my dream came true recently. F-16C can't come soon enough.

I was thinking about a post like this, but unfortunately, it will quickly get ruined by people not following that ask and posting negative stuff here, despite thousands of threads available to post the negative points there.

Anyway, a few positive things:

- Amount of vehicles recreated in a mostly realistic way, incl. hundreds of vehicles no other game has recreated at that level or at all, is staggering and actually becoming some sort of virtual museum by now. Would hate to lose that.

- Linked to above: Aiming at recreating vehicles based on historical material. Furthers the "virtual museum" aspect (note: I am saying aiming at, not that they have succeeded at that all the time. - Plus some questionable decisions in terms of recreating loadouts F-4F early or even unrealistic Frankenstein versions of planes e.g. F-5, just for "balance" though some are understandable, e.g. UH-1D, Bv 238)

- Ease of control, if wanting to have a quick match, but ability to get a more realistic experience by going from AB through RB all the way to SB.

- Overall decent graphics esp. when considering the hardware requirements

- Combined battles between branches and against players.

- Hot topic: Monetization and amount of events WAS ok a few years ago.

- Progression/Tech tree is nice to see how tech progressed, though sadly this has been diluted by changing the lines based on BR alone nowadays, adding younger vehicles at lower positions, and not anymore on historical progression.

Best regards,

Phil

Game is relatively good up until ~8.0? WW2 era is mostly fun, I'd say 3.3-4.3 balance is very good, nations seem to vary a lot - different feeling tanks while still being viable to play.

Spoiler

Then starts the impossible grind, overpowered CAS spam, and Helicopters oneclicking you from 10 kilometers away.
Oh, and remember you can be screwed by having a night battle while NVD ain't researched yet. Have a good match mate!

I think the sheer variety of vehicles is what really keeps me. You can play anything from famous vehicles like the Tiger 1, a multitude of Spitfire variants, to more obscure things like the Ho-Ni I or MARS 15. It helps for me when I get random interests in certain nations' vehicles and I can live out those interests. I also think it helps expose players to new vehicles outside of what they might know going in. Like I said previously, I'm sure a lot of players play War Thunder wanting to go for tanks like the Tiger, the Panther, or T-34/85s. But then as they play the game more and more, they branch out and start playing other vehicles and nations than they previously intended, and in the process learn more about them. So to put it briefly, I think War Thunder does a good job of representing just how many military vehicles exist or have existed, and that shows to the player.

Use to be good and fun plus you can grind and earn even without premium

right now? I don’t know anymore did they change the CEO or something  that led into this point?

Quite honestly, just the sheer variety of gameplay options.

Am I feeling like a quick, fast paced battle? Take a spin in Arcade, or even Realistic, air battles as a fighter. depending on how quick I want it.

Do I want something more tactical, slower paced and more about positioning and timing? Tank RB, and if I want even more of a challenge I run my AMX-13 (FL 11) lineup at 6.0.

Do I want a more strategic, slower and more math based game? I could fly the big four engined heavies, or an attacker (A-26B-10) and just maximize my efficiency with the payload.

Do I want some more tense gameplay? Top tier jets... In my A-7K/Tornado IDS

Do I want to just brain off grind while I watch a livestream or whatever, then Air assault arcade or Heli PvE is where I go.

Not to mention the level of customization, and seeing all these unique ideas for details placed on vehicles, (For example, I saw someone using the 512th Sqdrn decal on the front of a P-61 to give it a black skull, which looked awesome) and seeing the fun people have with the decals.

Great game in Simulator battles, till you realize you have to pay a repair cost for spawning ,then if you decide to play top tier jets in simulator, you have to get quite a few kills in order to just break even, ooops u got killed, sucks now you are in negative balance after playing for half an hour .Do you want to pay repair cost to spawn again further digging the hole ?ps all of this while paying for Premium account.

You may ask why didn';t sim community give feedback to Gaijin ?I don't know a single sim player that hasn't filled every poll, form, feedback thread and nothing changed for sim economy, except for the worse .

  The flying is nice .

Do you, as a sim player use VR or trackIR? Or you just go by looking via joystick/mouse? Does WT support trackIR?

War Thunder supports both Track IR or any headtracking substitutes and VR,I myself am using a free software called Opentrack combined with a PS3Eye cheap camera that tracks an Aruco paper marker .The only cost for me was the camera, the driver for the camera and opentrack itself are free, open source software .

Pros: 1) extremely cheap, you only pay for the camera and printing a paper marker.

2)Very accurate tracking, there is no difference between this and track ir regarding fidelity.

Cons:1)You will need secondary light source on desk during night so the paper marker is visible to the camera and window curtains if there is too much light during the day, glare again obscures the marker.

2)You will need to fiddle with opentracks movement curves till you find the sensitivy you enjoy, but this applies to track ir just as well.

3)The camera needs to be somewhere above you so it sees the marker that will sit on your head at a bit of an angle,so you might need to stack some books or have a tall box behind your monitor.

I use a cardboard cut on size of the marker and just put one of those wide elastics used for clothes over it on my forehead, its very confortable and secure, all u need is to cut the elastic to needed size.

This is a youtube that can help you make an idea,if you need more details, just pm me in this forum and I will answer when I have time .
