pihip 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2023 The game wiki often mentions that French guns deal good post-pen damage, but most French tanks lack an explosive filler in their shells. Do their kinetic shells do additional post pen damage compared to other nations, or is this a mistake of the wiki?

Can you provide examples?...i took a small sample and didnt see the message, or missed it in the long wiki...there are many different guns on the French tree... You dont necessarily need explosive filler...many APCBC shells in game have good post-pen damage...some on US tanks also used by the french

I suppose this is why then. I'm new, so I thought only shells with explosive filler would do any noticeable amount of post pen damage

Other rounds are usually ok...but it is a case-to-case issue...lots of different (and some odd) guns and ammo types around. At midrange you see the US 76mm and German Panther/Tigers as excellent one shot killers due to their good post pen damage...and i think they are all APCBCs. If you play brit 2pdr/6pdr and 17pdr guns you will notice the difference...you pen most targets...but rarely get a one shot kill.

Do not remind me of the damage of the 17pdr, that I used it on the sherman firefly when it was hypernerfed, and it only helped, and in fact it is one of the few tanks in which I have died more than I have killed. Anyway, I'm still waiting for a patch that fixes the issue of ammunition, giving less damage to APHE and greatly increasing the damage to all other bullets, to make the game more realistic, but I don't have much hope. Because they do actually have HE filler even tho' the designations do not say so - Americans left the "HE" out of most of their shell designations that had it - so American APC is generally actually APHEC - such as the M62 "APC" with 65 grams filler. All German "APCBC" shells are APHE - they did not have APCBC as a designator, and they pretty much all contain HE filler - eg 30 gm for the Panther gun. Well i assumed so much in game terms...after all...if they pen and kill they have the kill power...which apparently is called "HE". What i mean is that ammo classified BY THE GAME as APCPB is actually excellent at killing stuff...which was the question, i think... I am a "light" warfare enthusiast...not an expert...i get the difference between three main ammo type in WT...AP rounds, APHE(or wahtever) rounds and HEAT rounds...not necessarily the full theory and historical details... (But always fun to learn about them...learned a lot of details and got to know a lot of combat vehicles since i started playing) Edited June 14, 2023 by GhostSoph@psn
xxIRONHEAD787xx@live 65 Report post Posted June 14, 2023 I'm a bit of an expert in shell types. The reason French tanks do good post pen damage is because of the mass of the shell. Larger shells = more spalling. (for example, look at the ARL-44 SPG variant. It gets a 90mm earlier than most countries. For the reason APCBC rounds are called that, and not APHE, the simple reason for this is because its the standard APCBC with explosive filler, not an APHE round.
