Historical Board Decal Competition!

Hello Guys and welcome to the Second Historical Boards Competition!

This time, winners will not only receive in game rewards but will find their art work featured in the game itself in the form of decals! What we’re looking for are historically themed nose art decals for our five main in game nations. However, rather than finding nose art which actually existed we want players to make their own artwork completely from scratch, so original ideas but done in the style of Second World War nose art.

Carrying on with our Aces theme, each of the five categories will have a theme to work to linked with some of our previously featured ace pilots:

USA – As both of our US pilots were members of the Flying Tigers, this category will be for pin-up art of a “Flying Tiger” theme. US aces are Edward Rector and Pappy Boyington.

Russia – Both of our Soviet aces were great heroes of the people who featured heavily in the national media to inspire the population. The theme for the Russian category will be a “Patriotic Workers” art theme – think Stakhanov Movement. Russian aces are Alexander Pokryshkin and Lydia Litvyak.

Britain – A second pinup art category, this time the theme will be our first British ace’s branch: the “Fleet Air Arm”. British ace is Dickie Cork.

Japan – Our first Japanese ace descended from a long line of Samurai warriors. The theme of our Japanese category will, therefore, be “Samurai”. Japanese Ace is Saburo Sakai.

Germany – Our first German featured ace was also the first pilot ever to claim 100 kills. The theme of our German category will be a “100th Victory” decal. German ace is Werner Molders.

So, the rules:

•    Contest is held from October 30th to November 16th. Winners will be chosen on November 17th.

•    The key to a successful submission is to try to capture the feel of the era; judges will be looking for a 1940s styled image; anime or other modern styles are not the aim of this competition.

•    Only a maximum of one submission in each of the five categories per participant; this gives each individual a maximum of five entries.

•    Competition entries should be lossless file types with layers, such as PSD. However, JPEG files can be used to post your entries on the forums for judging.

•    Preferred decal size is 512x512; however, you can use power of 2 sizes for height. For example 512x256 or 512x128 for 1 string of text. Width should be 512 minimum.

•    Organizers may ask you for all original materials used.

•    You automatically pass exclusive rights of the image to Gaijin Entertainment by posting the picture in the thread.

•    Image should be created exclusively for the contest.

•    Image should have no link or logo of any other companies.

•    Image should not break any rules of moral, ethics or law (domestic or international), as well as game or forum rules.

•    Winners are chosen by War Thunder administration.

•    The Administration reserve the right to change the terms of the contest at any time.

Prizes for EACH of the 5 categories:

1st Place - Decal incorporated in War Thunder and 2000 Golden Eagles

2nd Place - 1000 Golden Eagles

3rd Place - 500 Golden Eagles

That's a total of 17,500 GE up for grabs!

Best of luck!

Very nice, i cant wait to get drawing.  :salute:

Just a quick question, you talk about files types and im a little confused. Is it we have to put a file (such as photoshop) available to download as well as a picture of the jpeg, or can we just use a jpeg image?

I wish I could draw, I have a good idea :(

Get in touch with people who can, have a chat, and see if you can put your ideas down buddy, you've got to be in it to win it. Plenty good artists in the community. Check the Fan Art section.

You can use a jpeg version of your image here in the forums to show your decal design, but the original image needs to be of a layered lossless format such as PSD for the artists to incorporates it into the game. I'm not such about .xcf but I will ask the question and return here with an answer as soon as I can.

As for skins… this is unlikely but you never know. It's a great idea, though, so I'll go start another thread now so people have somewhere to post ideas for future competitions.

Thanks again for all of the interest; if there are any other questions I'll try my best to find answers for you as quickly as I can.

Can we post 5 screenies of 1 nation or only 1 per nation?

To keep a bit of an even keel for contestants; only one submission per category will be considered as a competition entry. You could make five decals for one nation and post them all here to see which one the community likes the best and then have that as your entry, perhaps, but I'm afraid it's only one decal per nation.
