Historical Board Decal Competition Winners - Announced!

After some outstanding pieces of original digital artwork from the WT community, this competition has been even more difficult to judge than the last one. The winners were chosen by a combination of the forum staff, WT art department and some external judges. So, without further ado...

 

Japan - 1st place goes to post No.53 "Samurai Wearing Sunglasses" by Fenris. Not the actual name, per se, but the nickname given to this artwork by a member within theWT art department! This prize was almost unanimous amongst the judges, so great job Fenris!

2nd Place ColourCopyCat with post No.81, 3rd Place Iznogoud No.82

 

Germany - post No.63 by Iznogoud. Some close competition on this one as there were some great ideas with a real historic feel to them.

2nd Place Mudcat No.62, 3rd Place ColourCopyCat No. 52

 

Britain - post No.48 'Regal Seagull' by ColourCopyCat. A two horse race between ColourCopyCat and Fenris, with judges falling almost evenly between the two. However, whilst Fenris' 'Strange Fish' was felt to have the edge in terms of quality of artwork, the modern day Fleet Air Arm representatives within the judging panel felt that 'Regal Seagull' was more representative of the British Fleet Air Arm specifically.

2nd Place - Fenris 'Strange Fish' No.72, 3rd Place - 'Convoy Angel' No.44 (which Scarper particularly liked..)

 

Russia - post No.75 by ColourCopyCat. Another clear winner for this category. 2nd Place Danijocker90 No.25, 3rd Place Iznogoud No.82

 

United States - This remains undecided! At the moment, first place is tied between Fenris' post no.64 and last minute addition post no.85 by CharlieFoxtrot. We're sending this one up to Gaijin HQ to see if we can share first place and incorporate BOTH decals into the game, as both entries were so good. Can't promise anything, but we will keep you informed. 3rd Place 'China Doll' No.45, ColourCopyCat

 

So, a reminder of the prizes:

 

1st Place - Decal incorporated in War Thunder and 2000 Golden Eagles

2nd Place - 1000 Golden Eagles

3rd Place - 500 Golden Eagles

 

Will the winners please PM Scarper for further instructions as to how to claim your prizes and, for the 1st Place winners, how to submit your decal to the art department.

Dang, I was hoping my American decal would make the cut. Out of all of my entries, it was the one I most wanted to see in-game, but alas... c'est la vie. Congratulations to everyone else who participated!

 

Now to find out how best to spend all those GE...

 

edit: Also, if there's a tie for the American decal 1st place, maybe my submission could be bumped up to 2nd place with a prize to match? ;)

Shame i didnt win anything ,but well done everyone.

I still don't see how a picture made up of internet images beat my hand-drawn picture (in both cases), was it the pose or what in the British entry? Id like to see how i can improve.

Happy with my russian 3rd place, many hours of research behind, not a big result (just writing), learned a few things more about ww2.

Well, these are based on how they come out, not how they are done, I think. So just because you hand drew it, doesn't guarantee that you have a better chance than someone's who put a couple of images together.

Well done everyone, in particular ColorCopycat who deservedly scored in every category!  I empathise with you too, I had a fondness for my mermaid lass, but she didn't cut the mustard either.

 

Anyway, that was fun, and it was nice to be doing some art again!

So the file format should be .tga? In the original thread, the rules said the art department wanted .psd format.

Every time I try to attach the 1MB .tga file (with alpha channel) it says "Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file."  Is there any other way to get this file to the right hands? Other than via the forums or the messenger (which doesn't even give me the option of attaching)?
