Fairy Swordfish Mk I Floatplane

Currently in game Both America and Japan have multiple float planes that help to add more variety down at the lower tiers. Aircraft such as the rare Po-2 and more common Swordfish benefit and add to gameplay at the lower stages of the game , providing more choice and options for new players. In terms of British aviation aircraft such as the Fairy Swordfish do have amphibious versions that could be added to add a wider range of aircraft at the lower tiers.

"Although already obsolete at the start of the Second World War, the antiquated and vulnerable Fairey Swordfish proved itself to be one of the most iconic and valuable assets of the Fleet Air Arm.  While it was the wheeled, carrier-borne varient that delivered a near-fatal blow to the Italian fleet at Taranto, and later became so heavily involved in the sinking of the Bismarck, the Floatplane version saw service throughout the early years of the Second World War.

Developed for use by warships that did not have access to carrier air power, the Floatplane proved a valuable aircraft for the Navy, able to perform artillery spotting and anti-submarine duties before being craned back aboard ship.  The floats, however, had a major effect on speed, slowing down still further what was already a slow and vulnerable aircraft."

By 1939, the Fleet Air Arm (now under Royal Navy control) had thirteen squadrons equipped with the Swordfish Mark I. There were also three flights of Swordfish equipped with floats, for use off aircraft catapult-equipped warships. One from HMS Warspite spotted fall of shot and radioed gunnery corrections back to the ship during the Second Battle of Narvik in 1940, and subsequently sank the U-boat U-64. The Swordfish pioneered the use of air to surface vessel radar (ASV), by carrier-borne aircraft to locate surface ships at night and through clouds.

Swordfish flew from merchant aircraft carriers ("MAC ships"), twenty civilian cargo or tanker ships modified to carry three or four aircraft each, on anti-submarine duties with convoys. Three of these ships were Dutch-manned, flying Swordfish from 860 (Dutch) Naval Air Squadron. The others were manned by pilots and aircrew from 836 Naval Air Squadron, at one time the largest squadron, with 91 aircraft.

When production ended on 18 August 1944, almost 2,400 had been built, 692 by Fairey and 1,699 (sometimes called the "Blackfish") in Sherburn by the Blackburn Aircraft Company. The most numerous version was the Mark II, of which 1,080 were made.

I think you are overestimating it's speed...I should be able to outrun it on my favorite bicycle.

I think alot of planes should have floats as optional additions, such as an unlock in the research system....

They really should add floatplanes for the british. They also had Spitfires, Typhoons and Blenheims with floaters under their wings.

Also they should add maps where floaters could sea(I would say land but they can't land on land[does that make sense?]) and repair. As it stands,no reason to use the floatplanes because they are slower than other planes and cannot be repaired on most arcade maps.

But in HB they could be...well...The OS2U exists. So these could exist as well.

I guess but nobody will use them unless they like committing self-harm.

Atm I'd say it would be quite abusable, as Sword fishy fishy (damn mc donalds commercial -.-), could land and permaspam the torpedoes as it has no cost for them currently.

Unless they let me permaspam torpedoes while on the water,I wouldn't even touch the disgusting things with a stick.

Spamming torpedoes this way...why? Destroyers and bigger will simply pick you off water, as will any average player.

You highly overestimate the abilities of the average potato player that plays this game. And also, you can bombard the destroyers from outside their AA's range.

the "Average Potato" made me laugh.. :)

destroyers have been known for their cross-map snipe... and most players don't have the skills to be pulling off even 5km torpedo shots... I know i dont.

Most torpedoes don't even have the range for that sort of thing.

Destroyers typically start opening up on you once you're within 5 km of them- typical max range of a torpedo, 1.5-2 km - range at which you can reliably hit anything with a torpedo in War Thunder: .6 km or less.

Also, at least in RBs, you have to land a seaplane reasonably close to a friendly carrier to rearm, so no, they can't just continually spam them, they have to fly all the way to the target and all the way back every time they drop their load..

Off topic, but it would be cool if on some maps like Pearl Harbor (actually now that I think about it that's really the only one applicable currently) where there are docks and stuff, you can rearm in proximity to the docs themselves. Could work in world war mode.

Back on topic, to those who question the might of the floatplane master race, just try and stay on my tail when I apply landing flaps on my A6M2-N. See what happens.

Ps. This is bothering me now. I have a feeling in forgetting about another map with a harbor. Edited by Brogan1

Malta or Krymsk, perhaps?

if this gets added then they have to add the two PO-2 floatplane variants they made "look at the attached pictures".
