PvP Rating?

Just curious exactly how this is calculated, and what it actually represents. It does not appear to be directly related to win%, K/D ratio, average score, or even a combination of stats. I am wondering how some players have PvP ratings over 300k+, and yet mine only seems to increase very slowly despite having decent stats (80%+ win, 80%+ place rank, 2:1 air and 3:1 ground kills per death, around 2250 average score, etc).

I tried searches of Google and these forums and could not find a good answer. The tool tip in-game Is not all that helpful. Is this just a stat that is grown over a LONG period of time? The people that I have seen with huge ratings have been playing daily for a year or more.

It is related to how many silver lions you earn in battle, the more lions the higher the rating.

Hi

The PVP rating is based on the number of silver lions you have earned in battle.

Your ranking is based on how many silver lions you have earned over time compared to other players.

It was added in update 1.39 as evident here. :salute:

As stated in game, PvP rating is based upon your Silver Lion (SL) rewards in your best games. It's not a very handy metric to be honest, since this is calculated for all types of planes. A bomber will earn far more SL than a fighter on average for example. Your ranking on the leaderboard will increase when you score a better match than the player above you. And every 2 weeks, everyone's overall score is lowered by 25% to keep the leaderboard competitive. (Otherwise it's impossible for someone new to ever catch up to a player who's been playing for years) The players who top the leaderboard in this category will be players running bomber heavy lineups, or using specific planes like B-29's or Tu-4's, or be extremely aggressive and skilled fighter pilots. In order to maintain your place on the PvP rating leaderboard, you need to play often and play extremely well. The more SL you make, the higher in the leaderboard you'll be. (I'm not actually sure if premium time or vehicles is taken into account, I'd assume Warthunder takes your base earnings, not boosted earnings, to calculate your rating)

Is it skewed by SL boosters, bonuses or orders?  Or put differently,  is the reporting post or pre such offsets?

If post, can be gamed or a measure of how well a player manages SL income but not skill.

I would assume it's calculated from the base earnings. I'm not 100% sure, but it's the logical assumption. How would anyone without premium be able to work their way up the leaderboard when facing off against players using premium time/planes? Even when using premium, the after action report still calculates your base earnings without premium, before applying the premium bonus. Therefor I assume, the leaderboard is using the base amount.

And as I mentioned, you shouldn't use the PvP Rating stat (Or any stats for that matter) as a definitive indication of player skill. The PvP Rating, as I stated, takes a players most lucrative games and calculates their rank based on that. But this is for all players, flying all types of planes. It's more weighted towards bombers and attackers since they earn the most SL on average. Fighters have to work a lot harder to make the same rewards. That's just a fact. I know for a fact a bunch of people at the top of the PvP Rating board exclusively fly B-29's and Tu-4's. (I've flown against them. They're just there grinding, nothing wrong with that) When they have a good game, they make more SL than I would in a 20 kill game using fighters at a similar tier. Most of the leaderboard stats in Warthunder are bogus anyway. They are rife for abuse. The Victories and Place in Team stats are primarily populated by bomber and attack pilots who stack lineups full of ground pounders and throw away 7-8 planes a game to get a win. (Nothing wrong with that, it is the objective after all) Since ground targets have such a massive effect on the outcome of a match, more players are likely to fly those kinds of planes and kill the targets.

Honestly, the best way to get a feel for someone's skills as a pilot, short of actually flying against them is to check their overall K/D. If you are looking to see if they are a good fighter pilot, sort their stats by Air Kills and divide that by their total Deaths or Flyouts to get a rough estimate. (Of course, this stat can also be gamed by spawn camping or flying with a 4 man squad frequently) If you want to get a rough idea for bomber pilots, sort by Ground Target kills instead and do the same thing. At the end of the day, stats are pretty misleading in Warthunder because their are so many different types of aircraft with different roles. It would be easy if everyone flew fighters, then we'd just take the K/D. But because their are bombers and attackers, the stats are harder to calculate. I'm pretty good, and I've trounced some players with 'better stats' than me easily. On the flip side I've been killed plenty of times by players with 'inferior' stats to my own. You never know until you run into someone face to face.

PvP rating is designed to show how effective a player is at achieving objectives and therefore winning games, as SL gain is all about objectives. It shows the players you would want on your team if your goal is to win.

Gaijin like to encourage team play and so this is probably why the stat is calculated in this way.
