Tanks/Vehicles Beutepanzer - Panzerkampfwagen KV-2 and T-34

Premium tanks are something that offer a wider choice and variety for players within a specific nation. The following 3 are all tanks that Germany captured, tested and in some cases operated with their own machines and would make ideal possible premium tanks. 

 

Whilst some people disagree with the idea of them, the following tanks were captured in relatively large numbers. If not as premiums, then possibly they could be ideas for potential starter/gift packs, competition prizes or even part of a "Captured" tree within the German ranks.

 

PzKpfw KV II 754 

 

 

 

KV-2s were again a type widely captured by the Germans. Many designations and variants were captured, with the most prominent being the 1940 model. Mostly again adapted with German equipment and features.

 

 

PzKpfw T-34

 

 

 

 

Again generally captured an modified was the T-34. Some variants had spaced Armour skirting added, such as the above illustration. Modifications usually also happened to the guns, commanders hatches and sometimes even the whole turrets.

 

 

 

 

 

Premium tanks as a whole are great ways to add additional and more diverse content. Of course this needs to be in moderation and I feel these 3 work best as they are not simply just straight up copy/pastes of their Russian counterparts.

I like the KV Idea, or maybe the AA T34 Variant as premiums.

Honestly, I don't want to see captured premiums, especially in Sim battles. A passing scan of the area might mistake a German KV for a friendly if you are on the Russian side, which would be quite annoying.

Like i said, consideration needs to at least be given.

 

Things such as:

 

Limited to 1 per team, Higher BR rating (especially in the PzKpfw KV - 1's case) and pricing.

 

However like i said, many of these were not just captured, most had things removed/added to change them up. Some more than others of course.

I would say no to captured premiums. Every nation in game has enough special modifications/low amount series to fill premium slots.

 

Also the idea of captured premiums in SB is even worse, just think about Kursk, at like 1200m you see KV-2 silhouette will you speed extra precious second to check if it has balkenkreuz on side ? No thanks.

In the KV-2s case, yeah, id say for SB it would be too much. The Silhouette is a dead give away.

If you want I can find some low series TD/Tanks for Germany, this same goes for Russia/USA/UK.. I don`t see a NEED to repeat mistakes of Plane section when it comes to choice of premiums. For example I love this T-34 with add on plates, it fits great as premium. Still Russian, quite unique and not broken (lets not talk about current DM`s)

 

What I would want to see

- Low series like Neubaufahrzeug

- More 38(t) based variants for Germany

- Field modified/low ammount series

- A "normal" tank with ace crew/famous tanker camo and premium bonus.

 

But big NO to captured stuff, breaks the meta, breaks spotting in SB, and is just lazy.

There are a few id taken a look at such as the Pz SFL series, but i know they are not always to everyone's tastes also. Yeah feel free to add any to this.

On 30 July 1943 the OKH/GenStdh/GenQu/Abt.III/Gr.V communicated a program for the retrieval of enemy vehicles.

Units that retrieved a fully operational T-34 would get as reward two self propelled A/T guns or if the units was up to strength three ‘maultier’ trucks. Infantry and assault units would receive two 75mm Pak 40 guns with towing vehicles.

The simple infantryman had other reasons to risk his life for a T-34. As the report said: ‘OKH also has established special distribution of market wares as a premium for recovering a non-operational Pz.Kpfw. T-34 (40 bottles of alcohol), for a complete engine, transmission, gun sight, or radio set (6 bottles), and for a complete gun, radiator, starter etc. (1 to 3 bottles).’

A German report of September 1943 says: ‘Based on previous experience in recovering Panzers, OKH has decided that Beute-Pz.Kpfw. KW I are to be used as Bergepanzer. When still present the weapons, the turret, and the gun are to be left on to increase the traction weight and also to be used in defense of the Berge/commando. Use of these KW I as Bergepanzer is decisive because of the shortage of equally heavy and suitable German towing vehicles for recovering heavy Panzers. Also, it is forbidden to divert armed KW I issued as Bergepanzer to combat tasks.’

I'm overally against every kind of "captured" or "shared" vehicles.

 

Especially after short experience with HB where I could witness teams with swapped aircrafts

(for example there may be a battle made of USA premium KI61 vs IJN premium F4).

In my opinion there is big enough amount of prototypes or unique versions to make premiums.

Whoever said no to this because of SB's spotting system, do you realize that it's your job to spot those tanks, right? German decals should be clear enough and also use your minimap to see if there's blue blob near you, simple as that. 

So yes, I support captured KV-1 with modified gun and maybe modified T-34.

i would like to command captured tanks too. Btw there was tank ace which fight in t-34. Also iirc Kharkov factory were refited specialy to repair those captured t-34.

Now its planned that Germany will get KV-1B as premium.  I think better tank for Germans would be KV-1 with KwK  40 L/43 or L/48. Why?
Its simple - it would be original tank, not just another soviet KV-1.
