A United Korean Tech Tree
With a large influx of modern vehicles, more people are wanting the South Korean MBT, the K1, to be added into the game. But I propose that a entire tech tree dedicated to representing the variety of vehicles in the two Koreas. With this, the tech tree will hopefully solve the ongoing debate on where the K series tanks could go to. I've filled out the tech tree as best as I can using information available on the Internet and with discussions with other people to finalize the Ground Tech tree.

To start off the research for this tree, I first started on a Korean website to get a general list of vehicles, then proceeded to create a draft then discuss to eliminate or modify issues with the draft. I tried to balance the tree as much as possible through research.

The Helicopter tree will/is available over here

K-290/KAFV-90
K290-90.jpg.dd75c7f7dae881e64beeb8efc4ad

It's a K200 IFV with the Cockerill Mk-3MA1 90mm/L36. This did not see active service but a single prototype was built, as per the picture provided.
The armour layout could not be found as the chassis is in current service but according to official statement the hull without the additional armor (which this one has) can deflect up to 12.7mm frontally, 7.62mm from the rear. The additional armor provides deflection from 14.5mm caliber weapons.

Here are the stats for the base model of the K200:

Weight: 13.2t

Length: 5.48m

Width: 2.84m

Height: 2.51

Crew: 3+9
Engine: D2848M (280HP)

Max speed: 74km/h
Max speed in water: 6km/h

K21 XC8 105mm

k21_105.jpg.4f6d3c57cc29eeb0f47cdca9cb0a

Made in collaboration with Doosan DST and CMI Defence, This was created because the 120mm variant (the tank below) is too expensive to manufacture and upkeep. Is currently known to join with Lockheed Martin and try for the US LT program. It fires the K274 APFSDS.

Stats:

Weight: 25t

Crew: 3

Engine: Doosan D2840LXE (750hp), 10 Cylinder, Vtype, Turbo-Intercooled

Suspension: In-arm hydro pneumatic

Ground Clearance: 0.46m

Max road speed: 70km/h
Max offroad speed: 40km/h

Max on water speed: 7km/h

K21 XC8 120mm

k22_4.jpg.ee8d999e3a2ee6125e60b8f0d0508b

Originally shown in IDEX 2013. Mostly the same as the one above but has a low recoil 120mm gun. Made for exports and can fire the 120mm COCKRERILL Falarick 129 GLATGM with a penetration of 550mm (Post ERA penetration) at 5km. Production for this vehicle was switched to the 105 and the 120mm went onto trucks.
Couldn't find an info chart for this and is most likely similar to the one above.

BMP-3
Acquired during the Brown bear business (Bulgom saeup/불곰사업) Due to the debts that the Soviet union accumulated before its collapse, South Korea was able to receive non-monkey model BMP-3's with other weapons and systems. One of which was the Bastion ATGM.
Two slightly different variations of the BMP-3 exist in Korea, the initial import (Mid 90's) and the secondary import (Mid 00's). There are no actual armament or armour upgrades to differentiate the two.

The vehicle in the front is a initial import vehicle. Gunner and Commander both uses an IR Night vision sight hence the IR searchlight on the turret. The sights are mounted on the front of the turret and on the cupola/hatch respectively.
bmp399.thumb.jpg.652f133eef4bf5de099516d

This vehicle is from the secondary import during the mid 2000's. Gunner's optics has been changed to the updated SOZH-M model and now combines the ability to guide ATGM's. Therefore, the ATGM guiding device on top of the barrel has been removed. Also the Gunner's sight has been upgraded to thermal optics (Vesna-K). The Commander's IR light is the same but the Gunner's IR light has been improved to a newer type.

I'll be updating this post if any more issues arise as this was done mostly in my free time and was compile by me without an editor. Please leave constructive comments and I'll try to answer any questions you have.
Also I'll be adding more information for these tanks as it's going to take me more than one day to fill the information out.

Update: Back with new PC but pictures seem to be broken so to prevent that- I'm in the process of downloading the pictures then re uploading them here.

Update 2: Will probably add better pictures to some vehicles after I get some pictures from the defense expo.

Update 3: Currently busy with real life issues - Updates will be sparse and far apart but I'll try to update this as much as possible with new information as they become available. Also I have to find a way to upload / host photos elsewhere because I've maxed out the current upload limit.

I would like to see new tech tree, but only if you do not include vehicles from other nations (unless it is a VERY modified vehicle, which makes it different), and this teck tree has Soviet, American and even British vehicles.

but then this tech tree would be with few vehicles and totally without vehicles in the first tiers.

The only 2 options for you to have vehicles from these countries are:

1. that the vehicle is implemented in an already existing nation (for example the Argentine TAM in the German tree).

or (this is my suggestion, I'll make this suggestion in the forum later)

2. that the tech tree is implemented even if it does not have the lowest tiers, for example the first vehicle is in tier 4 or 5 (same as helicopters). this way we could see several new nations in the game with vehicles from the cold war and modern vehicles.

but this last suggestion has a problem that for you to release these nations with advanced vehicles you could, for example do as a requirement to release tier x of some already existing nation.

example. to release United Korea Tech Tree you need to release American or Soviet tier 4 or both.

that way I'd like to see new tech trees, not repeated vehicles from other nations.

I'd like to comment that parts of the newer trees, eg. Japan/French/Italian, specially the Italians, have vehicles at lower tiers which are copies of vehicles in other trees. As of 1.89, Japan has 4 of 42(M24, M4A3, M41A1, Heavy tank no.6), Italy has 7 of 42(M4 Tipo, M26A1, M26 Ariete, M47, M60A1, M113A1), and France has 3 of 42 (M4A1, M10 GMC, M4A3E2) vehicles which are a clone of the ones in other trees (point 1) / from other nations (point 2). And as you can see in other trees, most of them started off with premiums of the existing vehicles and even some of the longer standing trees have started to get vehicles from other nations. Also in this tree, there are some vehicles which just don't work at higher tiers, such as the DPRK's TD/SPG's, which are unique to that nation which have no armor and has ww2 era weapons mounted on to them. Currently this tree has 34 of 91 vehicles which are from other nations but 10 of those aren't available ingame, and there are a few which will be unique due to the modifications made.

TL:DR
Unfortunately, the TAM example isn't a good one since Argentina has only fielded 4 different tanks compared to the both Koreas which has fielded a lot more as you can see in the main post.

The second point you proposed will mean that you leave out some of the more unique lower tier vehicles because it "lacks" indigenous lower tiers. But I do have to say that  most of them were used in service (at lower tiers) and are a part of the Korean Armour history and I think It'll provide a good way for people to see how the vehicles have developed rather than being thrown into this tree using the helicopter tech tree method (which I personally find the Helicopter Techtree to be a bit absurd and could start off with it's own tier 1-5 but with higher BR).

I hope I clarified as much as I could and I'll be working on adding more info as well as this article was posted incomplete and will take me multiple days to format the information and post pictures.

Maybe if NK AFVs get matched with the USSR and if the SK AFVs get matched with US. Other than that, I can't see this working.

There could be two options here:

1.  Separation mechanic, which we might see if we get more East German vehicles anyways.  ROK and DPRK vehicles cannot be put in the same lineups in RB and SB.

This would be useful say,

East vs West Germany,

ROK vs DPRK,

Republic of China (pre-revolution and Taiwan) vs People’s Republic of China,

if they did an Eastern Europe tree (eastern bloc during Cold War, but some are axis and some were allies during WW2) / or

Italy + minor axis nations (Romania and stuff; Italy = NATO, Romania + friends = Warsaw Pact),

etc.

2.  ROK only tree, and have the DPRK as a line in the Chinese tech tree.  Tbh, I think this makes sense since they’re probably the closest thing they have to an ally, and at no point in War Thunder’s timeframe Korea was unified (at least as an independent state).

I think 1. is more feasible currently, although there are already enough vehicles in the German tech tree as it is right now. For RB, probably not considering the matchmaker currently only uses nation as a matchmaking factor and as for sim, there are vehicle limitations already built in so all they would have to do is add certain vehicles to spawn on either side for Germany and later the same thing with Korea.

And for 2, Up to the end of World War 2, there has been a provisional government as a unified nation since 1919, and the official split into the two nations happened on 1948, which gives 3 years as an unified country.

VTT-323_unnamed-variant.png

North Korea had another light tank based on their APC chassis, has 76mm rifled cannon.

This thread is seriously lacking in North Korean SPG's as they have open and closed roof, open roof 85, 100, 122 and 152mm guns with 85mm and 100mm employed as tank destroyers during 1970's and 1980's while 122mm and 152mm are SPA role though they can do direct fire. There are also 122mm and 152mm turreted SPG/SPAs.

Spoiler

They make own BTR-80 and BTR-80A's and the latter you can clearly see by the 30mm not having same features, apparently simplified which could mean higher recoil and or fire rate/rounds per minute. I am not in the mood to make a huge reply as that would warrant a thread.

Also IIRC according to recent or was it old South Korean defense paper that Chonma-ho can penetrate 600mm, not sure if its 115 or 125mm gun ie Chonma 215 or 216.

I just had an idea! What if we add Korea and all the other East Asian trees/vehicles to the China tree, and then split the resulting tree into Capitalist/Western aligned Asia, and Communist/Eastern Bloc aligned Asia? Either way, +1 to Korea for the Chinese tree

Political or geographical its not so correct but for a game solution yep...its a way

Never. My opinion, Korea is a modern nation, born after 1945 there fore what tanks could it fit into brs 1.0 to 6.0? Post ww2 tanks would only fill Era 4 onwards, maybe era 3 with a couple of vehicles but never you would find anything at a lower br. Korea being a nation of the 50s never had in their stocks pre ww2 tanks since they were too old to fight against 1950 American tanks. It would be way more incomplete than the Chinese. The Chinese tree has copy-paste that were in reality supplied to China but Korea never had such tanks that could cover ERA 1 2 and 3

If things will go in the way you said then it means that We ain't gonna get any more Nations into the game(Only exception would be Swedish Tech Tree, but it seems Devs are not so willing to it). So I'm totally disagreeing with You. Like this the game will come to an end in couple of years(like 2-2.5y). I know that Korea had no Armored Vehicles till begining of Korean War, but it shouldn't be an excuse for not adding them into the game. In my opinion they should add a Korean Tech Tree which will be accessable after reaching Tier III in Japanese Tech Tree and after that go on with North and South Korean Vehicles just like Chinese and German Tech Tree. Or just another totally independent Tech Tree which is better :good:

This will open the path for further vehicles from various nations and maybe other Tech Tree's too. It's pretty fair... Otherwise it would be such pitty for game if we'll be deprive of many unique vehicles and so boring after some time :dntknw:

Do you know the USB1 or how the hell it is called. The USA sea plane that was removed and re introduced. To unlock it for example you need Era 2 of USA navy tree as a prerequirement. For example you could say, add a Korean tree and chose the lower BR. The lower BR is 5.7? Then you need ERA 3 Tank unlocked and 3 different 5.7 tanks of any ERA unlocked to get access to the tree. That could work with any tree in game without needing Copy pasted trees

I remember the OS2U as it's been removed from US but not sure if You're about that...Anyway, I was saying almost same the thing. We know that there was no Armored Force in Korea during WWII(or we can say even an Independent Army [sorry if any Korean Bro/Sis reads this 화이팅 !]). So if They ever add Korean Tree into game my opinion We have 2 ways to do it. Just adding an independent tree like all other nations in the game or the way that You and I told already(this would be more fair to be honest). We can be able to research Korean Tech Tree right after We get 3 Tier III Vehicles from Japanese Tech Tree, then the first vehicle in Korean Tech Tree will be open to research(for example: M4A3E8 Sherman for South and T34-85 for North to Ground Forces). This would open the path for Eastern European Tree's too. People might say "then what about China?!", I guess China's situation is kinda different in this sit. so let them have a independent tree(no need to complain anymore, they have it already so let people who like Chinese Tree enjoy it). :good:

Yes yes exactly the OSU2, now it's unlockable by the same method we stated. For example this would recreate a more historical game since the absence of Korea at lower br will generate a pre 1945 scenario where a game at higher br would rappresent a post 1945 game

I think it would be better if the Korean tech tree required Tier 3 vehicles from either the US or USSR

Korea and Japan were never on really friendly terms with each other. There is actually a trade dispute between them right now. A couple months ago a South Korea navy vessel used fire control radar on a Japanese reconnaissance plane

Yes, I'm sure almost everybody following this topic is aware of relations between Korea and Japan. But puting South to US and North to USSR has no any historical sense. Only If You'd say "let's add North Korea to China as a branch" I could agree but still adding S.Korea to US is complete nonsense for me. I support a standalone Korean Tech Tree but I am aware of people not gonna like it and it would be more fair as a unlockable branch of one Nation in the game and Japanese is the most suitable one in this situation by it's historical background. And I bet You also know that these hostilish attitude between S.Korea and Japan is only including governments not the citizens.

If any of these ways gonna offend anyone in community maybe they can make it as a independent tree but still all red-unachievable before reaching to Tier III Japanese.
