Rptd: [1.89.1.20] Include OFL 120 G1 as a stock or low research level shell for the Leclerc

Full name of the vehicles affected
Leclerc S1 MBT

Detailed description of the problem

Currently, the Leclerc has only one APFSDS shell, the OFL 120 F1 (which entered service in 1993), only available at the 4th and last stage of research (honestly, a very dubious choice for a Tier 7 tank).

However, the CN120-26 F1 gun of the Leclerc was developed and tested using the same OFL 120 G1 APFDS used for the CN120-25 G1 gun of the AMX-40 (the latter shell had the same penetrator as the OFL 105 F1, recartridged for 120mm guns) developed in the 80s’. At the time of its development and early production stage, and when the first Leclerc entered service in 1992, the OFL 120 G1 was simply the only 120mm APFSDS shell available in the French army.

The shell in the middle is the OFL120 G1 with the muzzle velocity of 1650 m/s (Vo - "V zero" - is the standard abbreviation for muzzle velocity in French military jargon) of the CN120-25 G1 gun of the AMX-40 (correct muzzle velocity in the game).

The same OFL120 G1 but now with a muzzle velocity Vo = 1780 m/s characteristic of the CN120-26 G1 gun of the Leclerc. This provides a strong indication that this shell was at some point indeed used with the L52 CN120-26 G1 gun of the Leclerc. The small paper card next to the shell says "Do not touch. Thank you!". The larger paper card is unfortunately unreadable except for the end of the title: "....obus-flèche de 120mm"/"120mm sabot shell". "LOT" written on the shell means "batch" and is followed by the shell batch number.

Proposed fix of the problem

Implement the OFL 120 G1 APFSDS as a stock or low research level (1st or 2nd) shell for the Leclerc.

Hi No_Camping,

Do you have another reference besides Wikipedia.  The Dev's will not accept that.  Especially without a supporting independent reference.

Historical Issues Referencing Information

The required number of References depends on the type of sources presented:
OEM Manuals    -  User Manuals / Repair Manuals / Factory Manuals etc (Flight/Pilot/Maintenance Manuals, Engineering Drawings etc) - Historically acknowledged reference sources - single source is required. (Preferred)
Authored works   -  Reference Books on collections of vehicles/aircraft/ships ('coffee table books') Biographies, Specialist Books, "Expert" opinion publications, websites, industry magazines etc - at least two unrelated sources required.*

*Please be reminded that Wikipedia or other private Websites are generally not considered as reliable sources.

  • Please ensure the references haveReport/Document Type, Report/Document Name, Author, Date, ISBN/ISSN, relevant Pg No's etc - so our Historical consultant can review and check the accuracy of those documents against the substantial Gaijin Historical Database and Reference Sources.
  • Please provide scans of all pages referenced and a scan of the front cover of publication/book.
  • For Web sources. Please provide the link to the actual relevant section or document.  If this is not possible and only higher links can be referenced then please provide page or title information to locate the relevant reference.
  • Photographs need to be fully referenced.

What is the source of the photographic references used as well.  They need to be fully referenced.

Cheers

  • KnightoftheAbyss changed the title to [1.89.1.20] Provide OFL 120 G1 as a stock or low research level shell to the Leclerc

The photographs above were taken in NEXTER offices (the company which built the AMX-40, the Leclerc, and a long list of French tanks, as well as the two OFL ammo mentioned above). It seems they have a casual display room. Here is another photograph from the same batch as the 2nd photograph above of other French shells made by them:
2019-03-16_002943.jpg
OFL 120 F2 (back), OFL 120 F1, BSCC 120 F1, 140 mm APFSDS (experimental), OFL 105 F2, OFL 105 F1 or G2 (?), OFL 90 F1, OFL 90 F2, OCC 90 (cut and last on the right on this version of the photograph).
I do not have any other info about these photographs...

But again, I should not need to prove that OFL 120 G1 was used by the AMX-40 (prototype developed in 1983-1985) since the devs perfectly know that... and put it in the game. Same for the OFL 120 F1 of the Leclerc...  I just want to mention that the Leclerc should have the first shell too, as it was actually the only 120mm APFSDS shell in the French army until 1993, and hence, was necessarily used to test and develop the Leclerc gun (in the early 80s') and on the very first Leclerc produced... The 2 photographs I provide above are just "added in proof" showing an OFL 120 G1 with the muzzle velocity of the Leclerc gun written on it, not of the less powerful gun of the AMX-40 (again I have not to justify these muzzle velocity data: Gaijin devs agree with them in the game)...
