Hello everyone! Here I am suggesting the addition of the map "Battle of Marawi (2017)", which historically took place this 2017 in Marawi, southern Philippines, resulting from the national military's efforts to prevent the Islamic State - East Asia Region, also known as the Maute Group, from establishing a branch of ISIS' dream caliphate here in my country.

Area:

total: 87.55 sq.km (33.80 sq.mi)

elevation: 710m (2,330 ft ASL)

highest elevation: 1,852m (6,076 ft)

lowest elevation: 19m (62 ft)

the map would be suitable for any tier due to its size, as well as its immense complexity as an urban combat zone, much reminiscent to the newly-added Breslau, or the older Sweden.

Pros:

-decently sized, won't be too much of a "blitz" battle, unlike other urban combat maps like Advance to the Rhine, Poland, Eastern Europe, etc

-this contributes to more 21st century combat zones in the game

-available flanking routes, and if a "large" version (like Fields of Poland, Sands of Sinai, etc) of the map is implemented, the lake can be utilized as a flanking route for amphibious vehicles.

-many ambush zones and flanking spots, perfect for the more situational vehicles such as turretless tank destroyers, ATGM launchers, MGS, etc.

-spawn camping would be somewhat hard due to the labyrinth-like nature of the roads and buildings

-the areas separated by the lake can make for good sniping battles, especially in the "larger" version.

-more battlefields outside of European environments, which currently comprise majority of Ground RB maps

Cons:

-the long drive to the center of the map can be somewhat irritating for some players

-CAS would sometimes struggle due to the difficulty to spot vehicles in an urban environment, and buildings can absorb bomb/missile blasts that are intended for players

-capturing points would be a struggle in rotorcraft.

Done!

Close but I meant like inserting the photos into your post by either pasting the JPG or PNG link directly into your post or saving and dragging it into your post.
Adding the source below the photo is also great but not needed.
If you require assistance doing so feel free to ask and I will help out where I can.

I tried uploading saved images, but it said that 1.264kb was the max size, which seems unrealistically small.

Ah you probably hit the cap for uploads for your account. You can delete old photos/attachments. One way to get around this is posting the link directly to the images like "https . Somethingsomething .png" (ignore the spaces i just did that so a random photo wouldn't be inserted)

Can you try that if that doesn't work let me know /send me a few photos I'll insert them and then approve the post.

Also, have you tried to click on the pictures? It will send you to their image link, the same URL. (I've pasted the URL and I allowed it to automatically show as an image).

I can't support the 2017 map of Marawi for a number of reasons. 1 It is based on a operation that was based on a Counter terrorist operation against ISIS. Which not only serves extreme contrerversy and no real meaning to War Thunder. A vehicle game mind you. But 2nd of all. It can cause legal trouble with the law in multiple countries like the Phillipines where this map takes place or Russia where ISIS is in the same boat as the Nazies where you still can't casually show case the Swastika. There is a reason why Russian Forum users are saying ''Warning Swastika''. If you're suggestion was about WW2 Marawi Then i could support you. But for the Anti ISIS Operation just No. - 1

Then, no flag can just be shown. The majority of war thunder maps do, too.

Besides, I am from the philippines and no, this event isn't censored here.

‘IF LIBERTY MEANS ANYTHING AT ALL, IT MEANS THE RIGHT TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT THEY DO NOT WANT TO HEAR’

Censoring history because it could be offensive is exactly the reason why those ideologies come back to life. It's just a bloody video game map. +1 from me nonetheless

We are not discussing rather or not this is about Freedom of speech. But rather what it would provide any meaningfull content to War Thunder. Again a military vehicle focused game. If you want to have a anti terror operation in a game mostly focused on Special Forces on foot ( i know they used LAV's ). Then try to suggest it to the Enlisted Dev team. But again you Will discovers that in alot of countries outside the West has very strict hate speech laws. ( Renember Gaijin is mostly a Russian Company). Then the only thing i can suggest to you guys is to ask people who make games like ''Squad'' to add it into those games. But Even Squad has Terrorist organisation cencored for legal matters. Other than that i see it pretty much impossible to add.

We literally have fake cosmodrom map at this point. I don't think this map should be a priority but sometimes in the future. I just don't see connection to terrorism. It's a map not a storyline driven sinleplayer game with fanatic symbolism. ther's no shortage of terrorists in Syria and yet we have several Syrian maps in game.

We should focus on historical scenarios and maps first i agree with that. My point about about censorship was only to emphasise my general dissatisfaction with obsessive obstruction of reality in modern media.

I think people should have the right to suggest anything as long as it fits the cretia we ask for as a suggestion if they want a Sydney Australia map etc they could suggest it. Suggestions are just about letting the player base voice their wishes/thoughts/opinions. Regardless of the combat or what happened they were also just suggesting the map for the city layout, the atmosphere etc.

I agree having historically accurate maps that were of notable tank battles are awesome, but it shouldn't stop player from being able to suggest other locations/maps.

These are just my thoughts as a player of war thunder (my thoughts/opinion might not be what everybody else believes but I thought I'd voice it regardless)

I am not saying that maps with a contreversial setting should not be allowed to be suggested ( granted i also have contreversial suggestions ). And i am also not saying that Ahistorical maps is something im opposed. which i am not. i Love Alaska and American Desert etc.

What i am saying is that i don't support the suggestion due what the map is about. If it was about WW2 Dansalan/Marawi. Then i would have supported it.
