Sturmhaubitze (StuH 42)

Hello, welcome to the StuH suggestion thread, where I propose the addition of the StuH 42.

The StuH 42 came about because of the need of more infantry support tanks, because Panzer IVs and StuG assault guns were up-armed with the long barrelled 75mm gun:

Since the later versions of the StuG III with the long-barreled 75mm L/48 were mostly used in an antitank role, more armored artillery-vehicles were needed to support the infantry against soft and hidden targets. Therefor a new vehicle based on the StuG III Ausf. F was designed, mounting the 105mm F.H. 18 howitzer. This version of the StuG was designated Sturmhaubitze (StuH 42) and saw its first action in November 1942. Later versions were based on the StuG Ausf. G and had a larger barrel fitted with a double-baffle muzzle brake. A "Saukopf" gun mantlet was also installed as seen with the late StuG Ausf. G, although with an increased size.

"The StuH had the usual characteristics of the StuG but was confined to a purely anti-personnel role and did not fire armor-piercing ammunition. Like most howitzers, however, it was supplied with hollow-charge ammunition to give it some anti-armor performance."

I think that this could be the equal of the SU-122, giving the Germans, some "big guns" and can be given  around the same BR (3.3).

So what do you think?

Thank you for the suggestion!  :salute:

The StuH 42 was suggested during the CBT, but I suppose we could open a topic about here in the main Suggestion section.

I would absolutely love the StuH 42!

Hopefully, they add later variants which had remote control machine-guns.

if we ask a oberquartiermeister kind enough, maybe after all we may have them?

«10,5 cm le. F. H.16» and «le. F. H.18»

14 kg armor-piercing projectile from a distance of 500 m thick pierced the armor of 50 mm at an angle of inclination of 30 degrees to the vertical.
Well, not so much, but large shell weight sometimes was a killer : it did not penetrate, but crush through armor of " tridtsatchetverka"s. At the turn of
1941-1942. ammunition was complemented by powerful cumulative projectiles. However, the relatively low initial rate - not more than 500 m / s - limited blank range .
