Lumsden (2003) states that all Griffons prior to the Griffon 60 series had single stage superchargers, this is supported by the Rubbra (1990), who gives the Griffon 61 as the first griffon engine to introduce a two stage supercharger (using the same aftercooler as the Merlin 60 series).
