Flakpanzer Gepard

The Gepard (Cheetah) self-propelled anti-aircraft gun was developed as a private venture in 1960s. First prototypes were built in 1968. It entered service with the Bundeswehr in 1973 as the Flakpanzer-1 Gepard. A total of 420 of these vehicles were built for the German Army. It's role is to protect combat units, troops and key installations against air attacks. The Gepard is currently in service with Germany, Brazil, Chile, Jordan, Romania and the Netherlands.

Vehicle is fitted with twin Oerlikon GDF 35-mm guns. The guns are 90 calibres (3.15 m (10 ft 4 in)) long, with a muzzle velocity of 1,440 m/s (4,700 ft/s) (FAPDS-Frangible Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot rounds), giving an effective range of 5,500 m. The KDA autocannon can take two different ammunition types; the usual loading is a mix of 320 AA and 20 AP rounds per gun. Combined rate of fire is 1,100 rounds/min.

The electrically driven turret is powered by a 40 kW generator driven by a 4-cylinder, 3.8 litre Mercedes-Benz OM 314 multi-fuel engine. These guns are belt-fed. Maximum rate of fire for a single gun is 550 rounds per minute. Ammunition load of the Gepard consists of 640 armor-piercing-incendiary rounds for firing against air targets and 40 armor-piercing rounds against ground targets.

General search radar is located at the rear of the turret roof and tracking radar is located between the guns. Vehicle is fitted with friend-or-foe identification system. Radar of the Gepard has a range of 15 km. It provides all-round scanning with simultaneous target tracking. Vehicle has search on the move capability. This SPAAG is also fitted with fire control system.

Hull of the Gepard provides protection against small caliber cannons, while turret protection is only against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. It is also fitted with NBC protection system.

The Gepard has a crew of three, including commander, gunner and driver.

Vehicle is based on the chassis of the Leopard 1 main battle tank. It is powered by the MTU MB Ca M500 diesel engine, developing 830 horsepower. The Gepard is fitted with auxiliary power unit, which powers all systems when the main engine is turned off. Engine and transmission of the Gepard can be replaced in 20 minutes in field conditions.

German Gepard 1A2

Variants

   Gepard 1A2, upgraded variant with new fire control system. It has increased range and reduced reaction time. The Gepard 1A2 also uses new ammunition;

Gepard CA1, Dutch variant fitted with different radar.

Since the Russians get the ZSU-57-2 with those ridiculous 57mm auto cannons, I believe this would be a proper German T5 SPAA to replace and lower the Coelian to perhaps T4 along with the Kugelblitz. This also seems like a half-plausable idea now because of the introduction of the Leopard 1.

EDIT: https://warthunder.com/en/devblog/current/816

6. Any further development of SPAA planned? Any top rank vehicles maybe?

Answer: "Yes it’s planned. Currently top SPAA’s lack fire density and fire rate to fight jets. Most likely we will introduce “Shilka” for USSR, “Vulcan” for USA, “Falcon” for Britain and perhaps “Gepard” for Germany - but not certain about this one, it used complex systems."

DEVs stated, that no SPAAG with radar will be implemented into the game. Sorry, but this one is out already.

Radar doesn't even work in this game seeing as how everyone has it regardless, so I see no reason why it shouldn't as it would be purely cosmetic.

Joker you have to take into account that this isn't needed. The Germans have some of the best SPAA in-game already.

Second of all the devs already said no lol

No, the reason I don't want this in game is because it's a damn 1970's tank that would absolutely destroy early 1950's subsonic jets. I denied the American T249 Vigilante for the same reasons. If you want this thing in game then we should also get these:

The thing is that AF have a cutoff date at around 1955, while GF can go up to 1970. Read latest DEV's Q&A compilation. They explained that.

I know that. Still doesn't mean this should be in game.
