I would like to suggest the Sucessor of the Sagittario II, the Aerfer Ariete.

the Aerfer Ariete was a attemp to develop a aircraft to the production standar based on the Sagittario II

most of the Sagittario II desing was used in the Ariete, the same nose, same cockpit, same wing, in addition, the Ariete had a auxiliary engine for climbing and sprinting. The second used a dorsal, retractable intake with its exhaust at the tail.

the first prototype flew in march 1958. a second plane was almost finished but was later use for his part. the Rolls-Royce Derwent 9 turbojet (3,640 lbf) engine was in the nose and a Rolls-Royce Soar (RSr 2) turbojet( 1,804 lbf) was in the tail. the armament was two 30 mm HDD-825 cannons 200rounds in the nose, it was the standard for a fighter in this time. the wing was same as the Sagittario II equipped with 2 hardpoint that could carry up to 318, however, the hardpoint was never tested on the Ariete and the wing never carry anything.

 

Despite the dual engines, it was under-powered and never made it into production.

 

Aerfer Leone

A proposed variation with a rocket jet in the tail instand of the rolls-royce Soar engine was proposed but the prototype was never finished.

This could make an excellent alternative to the G.91 if they want some proper firepower.
