I want to see how the steam version of WT feels, but i dont want to download all 20gb again. Is it possible to copy my existing WT folder into Steam apps folder and make it work or do i have to download the entire game again?

Hello, I have tried this and have placed the WT into the correct folder in the Steamapps Common folder and renamed the WT folder to War Thunder.

When I press play it continues to download past the 900 odd megabytes i see quoted online. So i'm a bit confused as to what the problem is.

Any pointers or ideas?

Thanks

Check that your Anti Virus software is not blocking the update and download.

You may need to add the War Thunder directory to your AV software's Trusted or Exceptions list.

War Thunder is about 18.5 Gb in size.

After doing the 4 prerequisite steps, steam still wants to download way past the 909MB

Because the answer was written 1.5 years ago and is obsolete. Additional download may vary greatly.

If this is obsolete, then the official support page about this should be changed or removed: https://support.gaijin.net/hc/en-us/articles/200070271-How-to-import-War-Thunder-into-Steam
