Only known photo of Karo-Tei. This is test sail, so it does not equip weapons.

History

This is Propeller-propelled motor gun boat developed by Imperial Japanese Army.

In history, Japanese Army develop lots of small high-speed boats, and these are superior to Navy's one.

This boats, Karo-Tei is high-speed gunboat / submarine chaser, and it have good sonar "Ra-Go"

Karo Model 4 have curious proper system. It have two aircraft engine and propeller and it speed is over 30 kt (55 km/h)!! This boat is one of the fastest boat in Japan.

 

Interesting: IJN Otsu-class Torpedo-boats based Karo-Tei. Navy doesn't have Know-how about small highspeed boats.

 

About the Name

Documents created March 1943 says Karo-Tei/カロ艇 means Kuchiku-Tei/駆逐艇 (*1)

Documents created November 1944 says its official name is "Type 4, mod.2 Kuchiku-Tei"(4式2型駆逐艇)

 

According to them, I have some offer of this boat name in game.

• カロ艇→Ka-Ro / Karo-Tei / Karo
• 駆逐艇→Kuchiku-Tei / Subchaser

*"艇/ Tei" means "boat"

*In normal Japanese, Subchaser = 駆潜艇.

It has two engines on stern deck. It have one sub-engine (60HP), so if main engines destroyed it can move.

On the bow it equip 37mm gun. (based 37mm tank gun).

Middle of the ship it equip 20mm twin AA. This AA is same as So-Ki. It equip on bit high place so it can shot front.

On the stern there are depth charge dropper. I guess it is same as T-14's one. It will be same as Type 5 wooden large escort boat or other army crafts. (Wooden box)

interesting PT boat. good speed, great armament, and even a redundant engine for exactly the kind of situation you'd expect an unarmored boat to have happen in wartime. i can only hope its a 2.0 though it may go to 2.3.

The model has also been datamined, though it's only partially made.

Unfortunately, it seems to only have 1 x 20mm Type 98, not the twin mount.

Ka-Ro mod.4 is the most favorite Army boat for me. I’m very excited!

 

They often miss twin MG and single MGs... Why.

 

Also it have wrong modeling. In that image engine have aircraft cowlings lol, but in history engine was bare.

 

Anyway it will be very good addition for Japanese tech tree.

According to research report, it have engine cover. Not only engine but also engine mount is for aircraft one so cover will be similar to aircraft one.

The full model from the Dev Server, coming in at BR 1.3 as a premium. Unfortunately, it does still only have a single 20mm gun. Also, the gun mount is lower than in the blueprint and it has a wire blocking it so it can't fire forwards with the 20mm.

This modeling have over 5 modeling errors...

I will post bug report about them.

(wrong propeller, wrong number of auxiliary engine and shafts, wrong MG, wrong MG base, engine cowlings issue, depth charge dropper issue etc)
