Krischan der Große, 1943~1944

 

About this ship

    In 1939, Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) order to air force small boat with AAA for British Channel (especially Dutch and French coasts). This will be for Operation "Seelöwe".

    Air force design the boat equip 8.8cm Flak, 3.7cm Flak and 2cm Flakvierling and it have 3 screw by BMW aircraft engine. Build start in 1940.

   Completion is 1942. Tested at Dutch coast, but some problems discovered and refurbished in 1943. In refurbishment, Change from Gasoline engine to Diesel engine, and one 8.8cm Flak replaced to 2cm Flakvierling.

   After refurbishment test continue, but February 1944 sunk by RAF aircraft attack at Bergen aan Zee.

   This boat is designed for compact air-defense ship, but built only one.

Seems liek it could be a nice premium gunboat to me. Just not sure if it shouldn't be lower than 3.0. Hard to tell since the current BR spread isn't very good.

Way too little armament to be placed at the end of the German Barges. Both AF's are significantly better armed and armored. I'd place it at 2.3 or 2.7, in between the SF40s and the AFs.

 

But certainly an interesting vessel. I'd like to see it.
