Boeing AH-64A Apache

The Boeing AH-64A Apache became the standard by which other attack helicopters are judged

Designed in 1972 to meet the US Army's need for an AAH (Advanced Attack Helicopter), the AH-64A has taken over the mantle of the world's premier attack helicopter from the Bell AH-1 Cobra. The first

Hughes YAH-64 prototype flew on 30 September 1975, the program coming under the jurisdiction of McDonnell Douglas from August 1985 and Boeing from 1997.

Features of the Apache include two T700 engines flat-rated to provide high emergency power, with large Black Hole IR-suppressing exhaust systems, a large flat-plate canopy with boran armor, multi-spar stainless steel and glassfibre rotor blades designed to withstand 23 mm hits, comprehensive avionics and weapon fits, and numerous features to protect the crew, including crash-resistant seats and an airframe designed to withstand ballistic impact from guns up to 12.7 mm caliber.

The Apache's primary sensor is the Martin Marietta TADS/PNVS (Target Acquisition and Designation Sight/Pilot's Night Vision System) that combines a low-light level TV, laser designator and FLIR (forward-looking infra-red). Both crew members use various sophisticated sensors and systems for the detection and attack of targets, including the IHADSS (Integrated Helmet And Display Sighting System) which provides a monocular helmet-mounted designator/sight.

Some 827 AH-64As were eventually procured by the US Army and the helicopter entered service in July 1986. The helicopter was first blooded in combat during Operation Just Cause over Panama in December 1989, and went on to serve with devastating effect during the 1991 Gulf War - Apaches fired the first shots of that short-lived conflict. AH-64As have been exported to Egypt, Greece, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Variants

AH-64N Sea Apache, was a proposed navalized version of the Apache. This gunship was intended to operate on warships including amphibious assault ships. Though this variant of the AH-64 Apache was ultimately never produced.

AH-64D is an upgraded version, also known as the Longbow Apache, witted new fire control radar. This attack helicopter is compatible with the newer Hellfire 2 anti-tank guided missiles.

AH-64E, also known as Apache Guardian, is the latest version of the Apache. Until 2012 it was designated as AH-64D Block III. It has a number of improvements and upgrades, including more powerful engines, upgraded transmission and other improvements. This helicopter might be also fitted with updated Longbow fire control radar. US armed forces plan to upgrade a total of 634 AH-64D helicopters to AH-64E standard. Deliveries began in 2011. This helicopter has been approved for export. Export operators are Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. This helicopter has been ordered by some other countries. India ordered 22 of these gunships, Indonesia 8, Iraq 24, and South Korea 36.

AH-64A is worse than AH-1Z IRL.

Well, AH-64 is probably more durable but just look at the Mi-24, it will be as easy to kill as other helicopters.

This thing is seriously needed. Cobras and Hueys were never intended to face armored forces so what's the point of having them in-game (at least non TOW/Hellfire capable models). They were attack gunships for infantry support to neutralize LZs. The Apache is at least more survivable and meant to deal with armored threats. Also, the Longbow model is nowhere near too advanced. The SPAAs and tanks in general currently in-game are more than a match for it as well as from the same time period (actually could have fought each other irl). At least the ability to fire from behind cover would give choppers a fighting chance.

Just being pedantic here, but "Longbow" is the name of the system the -64D can carry; D's can operate without it. The -D is not by default named the "Longbow Apache." My unit operated some -Ds 2009-2010 in Iraq without the Longbow system. It can be taken off. A -D is still an "Apache."

With the Ka-50 coming soon(tm) the -A model Apache would fit fine.

Well we are going to get the AH-64D for the Tech tree the devs pretty much confirmed that and the Israeli Ah-64A will be a Premium.

Now the real question is which Hellfires we are getting because depending on the version we can get anything from 8-12km range on these.

Furthermore will Gaijin implement the Multilock of the Longbow Radar the the D version has,if yes it technically could fire all 16 Hellfires at 16 different targets in a very short time.

Heh and if the British end up with brimstone you could fire all 16 at once... Because the mad dog mode on those things is mental...

Rest assured, Gaijin will find some way to SCREW OVER american players.  Expect the Apache to be sub par and nowhere near its actual potential, yet we have had MONTHS of KA-50 ridiculousness.  GAIJIN doesn't give two ^%$$#@ about american players.

I'm almost certain it will come this patch given we know the models are complete so there's no point holding them off.

There's a 99% chance it's coming this patch. Both model and longbow radar have been found in the files. Except from that, one site leaked Apache bundle with the date of 9th March.

Unless they are holding the Apache from the files and 1st dev server I think we have landed in that 1% bracket and are going to be waiting even longer for the Apache. :'(

Im truly miffed about it because its so longer overdue with those Ka50s running amuck with no equel.

Has anybody made a bugreport about wrong placement of AAM on AH-64A? Seriously, gaijin put them properly on AH-64D so why is it not like that on A variant? Literally every photo with Apache shows that both Stingers and Sidewinders are mounted on the wingtips, not under pylons. Here's a link to bugreport from dev server and below several photos. (second one is a cover of stinger manual).
